6/24/24–In an effort towards even more balanced health, I started following the blood type diet (Dr. D’Adamo). I’ve had the book for years but after a recent visit with a friend, her enthusiasm prompted me to try it.

I’ve had a consult with my doctor and ordered bloodwork and a Microbiome study by Genova.

Years ago, I had 12 inches of colon removed due to diverticulitis which runs in the female side of my family. Gut balance is the key to life.

For blood type A, it is suggested I adopt a more vegetarian lifestyle with occasional white meat and fish. One of the most positive aspects of this is that I can incorporate all of those lovely grains I’ve avoided for so long as a trade-off for red meat, certain cheeses and some of my favorite seafood.

It’s very interesting, as I read through the food groups, to see all the foods I’ve been drawn to have been the wrong foods for my blood type such as crab, lobster, bleu cheese and so on. There are specific categories I must follow.

One of my favorite mixed grains is called Ancient Grains. It’s a marketing term to indicate that the grains have been minimally changed as opposed to corn and Franken wheat and consists of:

varieties of wheat: spelt, Khorasan wheat (Kamut), einkorn, and emmer; the grains millet, barley, teff, oats, and sorghum; and the pseudocereals quinoa, amaranth, buckwheat, and chia.

Today’s concoction includes grilled chicken breast and mushrooms sautéed in olive oil. I simmered cauliflower in the grains and added a little bit of chicken bouillon. Chicken bouillon is not indicated but one step at a time here.

My rheumatoid arthritis seems to be in very good shape since I have eliminated wheat bread and I am down 3 pounds with the new eating plan.

Starting Wednesday, I’m adding reformed Pilates to keep my body in motion and avoid arthritis drugs. Yoga is still twice a week and swimming is on the weekend and will now begin in the evenings.

What a long journey this has been since I quit smoking in 2018 but I have a feeling I’m on the right road.

Daddy’s like magic….

Improvised training a.k.a. think fast on your feet, mama! Last year before our first beach trip at age 1️⃣, I trained Archie to recall long distance to a coach’s whistle. It was put to the test after Rob left us at the beach for a few days so that he could fly home to work. Kind folks kept picking up Archie’s ball and throwing it down the beach for him. He was getting too far from camp and not realizing I was now hundreds of yards behind my boy waiting for poke along Daisy. I realized the recall whistle was very obnoxious 😳 and I had to think fast so I created the “toot toot toot” sound on the spot. It has now become another tool in my toolbox for recall! P.S. That right shoulder of mine has a torn rotator cuff! I can’t tag my wellness team but whew—that’s some power!

Teaching Moment: An open door should NEVER mean your dog can walk through it without your direction & permission unless it’s a trained service dog. Archie did just that to Rob THEN took the liberty to step just over the threshold. While it’s easy to figure “oh well, it’s a secure property”, you know how I think — teaching 💡moment! This is where the real work begins. Not at the park, not at your kid’s school and not at the exciting soccer field but right inside your home or, in this case, our beach rental. Every day is a day to train. As I always say, if you can’t succeed in your home, you’ll struggle even more at the park with all the distractions. One step at a time and it’s ok to go backward so long as you keep moving forward and never give up.
