Sophie had so much fun doing her treat toss engagement game, she got the zoomies!!! 😂 This can be a bit dangerous when the dog is dragging a long line 😅 Good girl Sophie, thank you for the laugh ❤️
Recall with Igor!
🐾 Meet Igor! 🐾
Igor is a young, spirited dog with a huge zest for life. Like many dogs, he found himself in a shelter not because he’s “bad,” but because he was never taught how to channel his energy and enthusiasm. We see this all too often – dogs with unmanageable energy and poor manners ending up in shelters.
But here at Sit ‘n Stay Training, we know that with the right guidance, dogs like Igor can thrive! Today, we’re playing our “Stash and Dash” recall game, perfect for dogs with energy to burn.
Why do we love this game for dogs like Igor?
🔹It strengthens recall reliability.
🔹Food scatters serve as a fun jackpot, but also a calming reward that helps dogs like Igor calm and regulate themselves after a high-energy recall.
🔹It’s an easy and effective way to burn off that extra energy!
How does it work? Simply scatter a handful of treats on the ground. While your dog is busy sniffing and eating, move away. Just as they finish their treats, call them to you. When they come, repeat the process!
Remember to play in safe, enclosed areas (like this fenced-in space) and use a long line for extra safety and recall enforcement.
Igor is learning fast and having a blast while doing it! Training can be fun and rewarding for both you and your dog. 🐶💪

Stand in Motion with Alchemy!
Check out this video of my dog, Alchemy, as we train for the sport of Schutzhund. 🐾
In Schutzhund, there are three parts in the obedience routine where dogs need to stop on a dime when cued, and let me tell you, this is no easy feat!
Why is a stay in motion, specifically a Stand Stay so challenging?
🔸 Unlike a sit or down, a stand can be confusing for dogs since it’s not as obvious that it’s a stationary position.
🔸 Stays in motion are harder because there are fewer natural body cues from the handler indicating that the dog should stop. When the handler continues to walk or run without pausing, it becomes tempting for the dog to want to follow.
🔸 The trainer must be excellent at building clear criteria so the dog fully understands the behavior. If they do not truly understand stay, the behavior will not hold up when put to this test!
Why Learn a Stay in Motion?
🌟 If you’re aiming for competition obedience, mastering this skill is essential and a lot of fun to teach!
🌟 Even for pet owners, teaching your dog to stay in motion has practical benefits like emergency stops, preventing your dog from chasing something unsafe, or halting on a busy sidewalk.
Want to learn how to train competition-level obedience or enhance your pet’s everyday skills? Join us at Sit ‘n Stay Training, and let’s make your dog’s training journey a success! 💪🐕

Another great example of what training (and a little help from friends!) can get you!!
My dog, Beo, HATED getting shots. He is very strong, ands restraining him successfully was nearly impossible.
Besides, I didn’t like restraining as an approach for him because it was a sure way to create more conflict for him.
So, employing the help of my friends, @hungrydogtraining & @likemagicdogs we worked up to Beo being able to hold a chin rest behavior while being injected.
This video is from an earlier training session, but we did eventually work up to where I could administer the injection all on my own!
AND this transferred to the vet office where just a week ago Beo successfully got his annual shots AND his very first restraint free, stress free, blood draw.
If this is something you would like to accomplish, please keep an eye out for our upcoming cooperative care workshops!!
Do you wish your dog could just lie down calmly for nail trims?
