Each month our harvest of the month is the main ingredient we base our recipes around.
In March students got to try carrot cake protein balls with our farm to school program manager, Nicole! We shared the recipe here. Have you tried them yet?
They also learned tips for growing carrots from our farm manager, Bruce.
Our Nourish together programs featured meat and veggie lasagna (of course with carrots), a fresh winter chopped salad with carrots, and carrot cake cupcakes with a maple cream cheese frosting. Menus are created and prepared by our kitchen manager, Kristin, and culinary coordinator, Sam.
Each week our staff is supported by community volunteers. We sure couldn’t do it without them!

Our Farm to School students are in for a treat. These Carrot Cake Energy Balls look and taste like dessert, but they are filled with carrots and naturally sweetened.
Follow along all month for more on carrots. We will talk about ways to prepare them, the nutritional impact of carrots, and even how to grow then.
Teaching kids how to safely chop vegetables is a skill they will be able to use for the rest of their lives. When kids are excited to enter the kitchen with their grown ups, that’s a very empowering space for them to be.
If you’re feeling nervous to let the child in your life, use a kitchen knife, there are many child safety knives available so you can feel comfortable.
Or come to one of our family cooking classes. We are happylink in bio for those details.
Thank you to the @shebctyfoodbank for partnering with us on this minestrone lesson. As you can see, children were able to use their chopping skills and enjoy minestrone in the classroom. They were also given a bag full of all the ingredients to make minestrone at home with their families.
The kids also put these cutting boards, donated by @epicurean_usa, to good work.
Special thanks to both of these partners for their contributions to the Farm to School program.
