Meet Yuma! This handsome Bernese Mountain Dog was here to see Dr. Helms, and we just had to share his picture! Fun Fact: also known as “Berners,” these dogs originate from the cold, harsh mountains of the Swiss Alps, where they were valuable assets to farmers due to their extraordinary capabilities as herding dogs and protecting livestock. They are also only available in tri-color!

Meet Benji! This handsome guy is a 15 week old wire haired pointing griffon who came to see Dr. Bertz for his puppy wellness visit. The hardworking Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, renowned as the 'supreme gundog,' is known for the harsh, low-shedding coat the breed is named for.

Seeing double? Geisha and Smokey came together to see Dr. Bertz for their annual wellness visits. Fun fact: the tortoise shell color in cats is almost exclusively seen in females, as it is a combination of the color genes on both of the X chromosomes!

Introducing Pepper! Pepper is a Golden Doodle puppy that came to see Dr. Vallin for her first health check-up, and we were so excited to meet her! Fun fact: Golden Doodles are not hypoallergenic, however their tightly curled hair does not shed much, and releases much less dander, so allergy sufferers may experience fewer symptoms!

Now that's the face of a happy springer spaniel puppy! Charlie came to see Dr. Bertz for a puppy wellness visit, and brought a smile to our staff's faces! Fun fact: springers were named for their hunting style when they were used to “flush” or “spring” game, meaning they would chase birds into flight so that hunters would then shoot.

PSA - It’s official folks, January is here and so is the cold. We urge you to consider your pets! Please take precautions to protect them from the elements! Tactics for keeping your pet safe during the winter months will vary for each pet. While some can play in the snow, others need extra protection for their paws. Keep your furry friends safe this winter with these tips: • Prevent dry skin — keep your home humidified and decrease baths as this can decrease essential oils and cause dry, irritated skin. • Maintain a healthy weight — if your pet is losing weight, you may want to increase their food intake as they use more energy to stay warm. Consult your vet. • Sweater weather — if your pet has short hair, a sweater may be a good idea. • Never leave your pet in the car — a vehicle gets cold faster than you think, so leave them home unless you can take them inside. • Keep them collared — always leash and collar your animals if you do not have a fenced in yard. • Staying cozy — make sure your pet has a warm and comfortable place to sleep. Floors and drafts can make your pet feel chilly, so a blanket is perfect for them. Ensure outdoor pets have a closed-in shelter.
