Lucy’s Roost – Our Story
I grew up with a very innovative mother that didn’t have the luxury of hopping onto Pinterest to help fuel her creative juices. She was the epitome of “upcycling” before it was even a word! Having nine children and limited funds, never stopped my mom from pumping out Halloween costumes that would have made Martha Stewart jealous. Nothing lying around the house was off lim
its to her creativity. Cardboard, material scraps, curtain rods and any trinket could soon have new life breathed into it, making its former state unrecognizable. I credit my mom for fostering my passion and appreciation for all things handmade. Like most of my fellow artists, we do not create in order to pay the mortgage. Rather, our work serves as an outlet to express our creativity; a diversion to the fast paced, craziness of the world around us. Opening a retail shop has always intrigued me and since I had the space, the idea of providing an outlet for my stuff and others was born. She has been coming to work with me for years and she has always ruled the Roost. It is great to see the resurgence of buying local and “handmade”. I think the revival is awesome! My graphic design business (Two Bit Productions) is also located in the same building, so I am available by appointment.
