WHY THIS LONGEVITY HERB IS A MUST ADD TO YOUR DOG’S DIET! 🐶🍠

Cancer is considered the leading cause of sickness and death in dogs. In fact, when it comes to the golden retriever, one study found that 68.3% of golden retrievers were diagnosed with some form of cancer and 65.0% of golden retrievers had a death attributable to cancer. According to the National Cancer Institute, approximately 6 million new cancer diagnoses are made in dogs each year. “Since not all pets receive medical care or a definitive cancer diagnosis, this number likely would rise if every pet saw a veterinarian annually.” 📈- AAHA

One of the world's most extensively researched and promising natural compounds for cancer treatment is a medicinal herb that so desperately needs to be incorporated into our pets’ lives. 🌿 That herb is turmeric root. Turmeric has been used for thousands of years not only as a spice but also as a medicinal herb, and now science is beginning to understand why. 👩🏼‍🔬 Its medicinal properties and components (primarily curcumin) have been the subject of over 5600 peer-reviewed and published biomedical studies, and has been shown to have anti-aging properties.

Over the years, curcumin has been studied as a potential tool to both reduce as well as possibly treat, different forms of cancer.🦠 Various studies have found that curcumin can help kill tumor cells, as well as inhibit tumor growth in test tube and animal studies. With the ability to selectively target cancer stem cells, curcumin plays a significant role in suppressing the metastasis of cancer cells.

In addition, curcumin has also been shown to help boost the levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and improve cognition by making omega-3 DHA, more available in the brain.🧠 This means that in addition to improving memory, and maybe even delaying memory loss, curcumin-boosted BDNF could be effective in delaying or even halting age-related neurodegenerative diseases.

More recent research has discovered curcumin may also protect the body from oxidative stress and damage caused by advanced glycation end products (AGEs). Studies show that cooking some foods at high heat results in the formation of more than ten to hundred times of new AGEs in foods. Processed canned and kibble dog food may contain significantly high levels of these AGEs. Animal and human studies show dietary AGEs result in increased oxidative stress, inflammation, and potentially organ damage, with more than half of absorbed AGEs bound in the liver and kidney. Accumulation of AGEs in the body over time may be a significant contributor of aging. Curcumin has been shown to not only protect the body from AGE’s damage but may also inhibit the formation of AGEs in the body.

👉 Our suggested dose for dogs: 50 to 250 mg two times a day, this is roughly 2 mg per pound of body weight twice a day. *Based on curcumin's naturally low bioavailability, source a product that has been formulated for increased absorption.

As with people, the longest lived dogs often have healthy dietary habits in common. In the Herbs for Health section of our new book, The Forever Dog, turmeric is one of the many herbs we recommend sharing with your dog. We also explain how to incorporate herbs into your dog’s meals, along with how much to feed. 🐾 Get your copy now: foreverdogextras.com/pet-longevity

COCONUT OIL KILLS BACTERIA, VIRUSES AND FUNGI IN/ON YOUR PET!

Ranked in the top 10 most important food medicines, coconut oil is a must add to your pet’s diet! With over 13 Evidence-Based Medicinal Properties, the one we love the most is its yeast-bustin’ abilities!

Almost 50% of the medium-chain triglycerides found in coconut oil are lauric acids, saturated fatty acids that our bodies convert into monolaurin. Monolaurin is one of the natural world's greatest antivirals, antibacterials and antifungals. Because they come from natural sources, these fatty acids pose no danger to your pets' bodies, unlike man-made antibiotics and anti-virals.

Coconut has been used for wound healing for thousands of years. A new study published in the International Journal of Dermatology confirms that coconut oil aides in treating atopic dermatitis, a chronic skin condition characterized by scaly and itchy rashes.

Furthermore, one study published in the Journal of Medicinal Food found that “coconut oil is extremely effective at killing Candida albicans, a common yeast infection in humans.” Another study published in the Journal of Bacteriology discovered that “coconut oil can help kill Staphylococcus aureus, which is a common cause of skin conditions and respiratory diseases.”

The recommended dosage for feeding is:

• ½ teaspoon for every 10lbs of body weight daily

Or, if using topically, just rub the oil on your hands and apply to your pet’s coat (remember not to over do it!).

DOES DRY, CRUNCHY COMMERCIAL PET FOOD ACTUALLY KEEP YOUR PET’S TEETH CLEAN?

Yes, decades ago, this is what most pet owners actually believed. Feeding dogs and cats commercial kibble would actually keep their fur monsters’ teeth clean.

Today, however, research shows this couldn’t be any further from the truth!

According to the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA), they estimate that 90% of pets over 2 years old have significant mouth disease and of that 90%, 50% require immediate attention.

According to the pet food industry, out of the 90% of pets suffering from mouth disease, at least 96% of the North American pet-owning population is feeding dried kibble to their pets. As you can see from these numbers, dry pet food isn’t keeping anyone’s teeth clean!

WHY IS DRY FOOD CAUSING SO MUCH MOUTH DISEASE?

Research shows that dry commercial pet food cannot be made without starch, and the average use of starch (aka sugar) by manufacturers, is around 40 to 49%.

Logically, feeding your pet all that starch (which their bodies convert to sugar) will not only not clean their teeth. In fact, it will cause the polar opposite effect. Or, at least, so says today’s sky-rocketing mouth disease stats.

WHAT TO DO?

Well of course brushing is your best bet! But what if your pet won’t let you? Well then according to Dr. Will Falconer -

The best-kept secret for dental prevention is simply this: feeding raw bones. All that gnawing is literally scraping the tooth surfaces with a tooth friendly similar substance, a semi-hard polisher of enamel, and is a great exercise for the jaws and gums.

ANOTHER GREAT IDEA?

According to Dr. Karen Becker, removing all the sugary starches out of your pet’s diet is always the best route!

“Diet can play a significant role in the development of tartar on your pet’s teeth. Wild dogs have strong, healthy teeth partly because they eat raw meaty bones. Raw diets help control tartar. Raw ground bone is a gentle dental abrasive, acting like fine sandpaper when chewed, which helps remove debris stuck on teeth. The meat contains natural enzymes, and in addition, raw food doesn’t stick to teeth, unlike starchy kibble.”

Remember: you always have options, but should never rely on dried starchy pellets to keep your pet’s mouth and teeth clean!

OFFER YOUR DOG POMEGRANATE!

In a study published in the Journal of Applied Research in Veterinary Medicine, scientists found feeding pomegranate extract to a dog had incredible health benefits!

According to researchers:

The good stuff found in the pomegranate (punicalagins) possessed significant strong antioxidant and cytoprotective activities in canine endothelial cells.

In fact, pomegranates contain the most potent antioxidant activity of almost all known fruits! Providing beneficial effects on cardiovascular, nervous and skeletal health, this would be a great add to any dog bowl.

According to Dr. Karen Becker, feed 1 tablespoon per 20lbs of body weight.

You want to know the cure for pet cancer today? Easy. The cure for cancer, all species alike, is to prevent it!

It is estimated that over 6 million (and growing) dogs die from cancer each year! More than 1 in 2 dogs (1 in 3 cats) are diagnosed with cancer, and up to 50% of dogs will be affected by some type of tumor in their lifetime.

There is a medicinal herb that so desperately needs to be incorporated into our pets’ lives; an herb that is one of the most thoroughly researched plants in existence today.

That herb is turmeric root.

“Science Confirms Turmeric As Effective As 14 Drugs” – National Health Federation

“Turmeric is one the most thoroughly researched plants in existence today. Its medicinal properties and components (primarily curcumin) have been the subject of over 5600 peer-reviewed and published biomedical studies.

Indeed, turmeric turns the entire drug-based medical model on its head. Instead of causing far more side effects than therapeutic ones, as is the case for most patented pharmaceutical medications, turmeric possesses hundreds of potential side benefits, having been empirically demonstrated to positively modulate over 160 different physiological pathways in the mammalian body.

What is so amazing is not that turmeric may have value in dozens of health conditions simultaneously, or that it may improve conditions that are completely resistant to conventional treatment, but that there are over six hundred additional health conditions it may also be valuable in preventing and/or treating.” – greenmedinfo

Turmeric aids in the following:

Destroys multi-drug resistant cancer;
Destroys cancer stem cells (arguably, the root of all cancer);
Protects against radiation-induced damage;
Reduces unhealthy levels of inflammation;
Protects against heavy metal toxicity;
Prevents and Reverses Alzheimer's Disease associated pathologies;
Anti-Inflammatory;
Detoxifier;
Treatment of epilepsy;
Relieves allergies;
Prevents the formation of cataracts;
Treats depression;
Kills parasites;
Heals stomach ailments, aids in digestive disorders, and reduces gas and bloating;
Acts as a binding agent, great for treating diarrhea;
Fat metabolism and weight management;
High in fiber and rich in vitamins and minerals.

HOW TO MAKE TURMERIC 2000% STRONGER WITH A HOMEMADE PASTE TO HELP SMASH CANCER & ARTHRITIS!

It is estimated that 10% of cancer is genetic🧬 and 90% is a result of lifestyle and environmental factors. Over 6 million (and growing) dogs die from cancer each year! More than 1 in 2 dogs and 1 in 3 cats are diagnosed with cancer.

A new turmeric study reveals that one of the world's most extensively researched herbs has the ability to selectively target and destroy cancer stem cells, while having little to no toxicity on normal stem cells.

This means that, unlike chemotherapy which will destroy regular healthy cells, turmeric will only go after cancer cells in you and your pets!

The only problem is with using turmeric to smash cancer or to heal inflammation like arthritis is its low bioavailability when eaten on its own.

You see, approximately 5% of the spice turmeric is composed of the active compound curcumin and this is the stuff that gives turmeric its power. Then, to top it all off, turmeric root is poorly absorbed across the G.I. tract and is rapidly cleared from the blood.

If pets or people are given turmeric root, within an hour, there’s a little tiny bit that actually makes its way into their blood stream. The reason for this is because the liver is actively trying to get rid of it! So, while a ton of pet owners may be giving their pets turmeric, most are seeing little to no results.

FEAR NOT! THERE IS A SOLUTION!

There’s an easy-to-make recipe that will actually make turmeric root powder, and its power-punching curcumin, over 2000% more readily available to your pet’s body!

The solution? An old Ayurvedic recipe called Turmeric Paste (aka Golden Paste) that has been prepared in India for thousands of years!

“How is it prepared in India? With fat and black pepper. Amazing how they could figure that out without double blind trials. (Though maybe it just tastes good, and it’s merely coincidence?)” -Michael Greger, M.D

A source of fresh ground black pepper and a healthy fat can turn this solo herb, turmeric, into a super powerful rock band!

According to research, about 5% of black pepper by weight is comprised of a compound called piperine, which enhances the bioavailability of Turmeric.

Australian Vet, Dr. Doug English, advises to add freshly ground peppercorns (piperine) to your mixture of turmeric root, piperine will increase intestinal absorption allowing time for the curcumin to be taken up into the blood stream.

“By taking just a quarter teaspoon’s worth of black pepper, you see curcumin (turmeric root) levels skyrocket. The same amount of curcumin consumed, but the bioavailability shoots up 2000%. Even just a little pinch of pepper—1/20th of a teaspoon—can significantly boost levels.” -Michael Greger, M.D

Not only can adding fresh ground pepper make turmeric more bioavailable but piperine in black pepper can trigger TRPV1 (transient receptor potential vanilloid type-1) in the body. This triggering can reduce pain!

Ok, so why the coconut oil?🥥

According to research: “Another way to boost the absorption of curcumin is to consume it in the whole food, turmeric root (fresh or dried as a powder) because natural oils found in turmeric root and turmeric powder can enhance the bioavailability of curcumin seven to eight fold. When eaten with fat, curcumin can be directly absorbed into the bloodstream through the lymphatic system thereby in part bypassing the liver.”

You can use good clean organic fats like olive oil, fish oil or, my favorite, coconut oil!

THE RECIPE

First source the following ingredients🥄 -

- ½ cup of organic turmeric root powder
- 1 cup of clean spring or filtered water (may need more)
- ½ up to 1 ½ teaspoons freshly ground black pepper (fresh is always best because of the piperine levels)
- ¼ cup organic cold pressed virgin coconut oil (you can also use olive oil)

Here’s how easy it is: just mix the turmeric root powder with the 1 cup of water in a pan or pot, you may need to add more water if needed. Stir the mixture on medium/low heat and in about 7 to 10 minutes, it should form a thick paste. (If your paste looks runny, just add a bit more turmeric and heat it for another couple of minutes.)

Once turned into a paste, add the fresh cracked pepper and coconut oil, and then stir it up!

Once cool, place the paste in a mason jar and store it in your fridge. The paste should last for about 2 weeks.

🐕Start with about ¼ to ½ tsp, depending on the size of your dog. You can increase the amount from there, up to about a Tbsp for larger dogs.

Cats🐈 - start with 1/8 of a teaspoon of turmeric paste and build up over time if needed.

Humans👩🏻 - start with 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric paste 3 times a day and then build up to desired level.

*NOTE: Follow dosage in the writeup and not the photo.

STUDY REVEALS THE LINK BETWEEN OUR LAWNS, OUR PETS🐾, CANCER🔥 AND US

Beware pet parents: Treating your lawn with yard chemicals☠️, allowing your pet to eat or play on grass that’s been sprayed💦, or walking your pet on golf courses⛳️ can negatively affect our dog’s health, according to several studies. In fact, it can impact your entire family, as pets can bring those chemicals back inside!

In our new book, The Forever Dog, it was critical for us to highlight things in and around your home that could damage your pet’s DNA. According to Dr. David Sinclair, Professor of Genetics, and co-Director of the Paul F. Glenn Center for Biology of Aging Research at Harvard Medical School- “DNA damage speeds up aging.”

Several studies show: dogs exposed (through laying, playing, ingesting or inhalation) to treated lawns has been associated with a significantly higher bladder cancer risk, and dogs whose owners reported use of professionally applied lawn pesticides were 70 PERCENT more likely to have lymphoma (cancer). In fact, there was an even higher risk of lymphoma if owners used self-applied insect growth regulators on their yards to control cockroaches, fleas, and other pests!🐜

Our book focuses on how to raise the healthiest, happiest, long-lived dogs, and in it we teach you how to evaluate your dog’s indoor and outdoor environmental chemical exposure⚠️. In the section of the book titled Environmental Impact: The Body Burden, where we offer you tips like:

• Safer lawn-care options
• DIY non-toxic w**d killer recipes
• Home Chemical Exposure Pet checklist
• Forever Dog Foot Soak Recipe
• Supplements that support chemical clearance

We know many of you Longevity Junkies have already pre-ordered your copy of the book (thank you!!😻) but are desperate for solutions and suggestions right NOW! We put together a handy guide with gems from the book you can institute this week.

This free resource is crucial this summer if you have pets spending time outdoors because even if you don’t buy lawn chemicals, it doesn’t mean your dog isn’t being exposed. Home foot soaks after walks in parks and public spaces can go a long way in reducing your dog’s chemical exposure.

HERE’S WHY IT IS SO IMPORTANT TO ADD FRESH “HUMAN FOOD” TO YOUR PET’S KIBBLE

Today, ninety-six percent of pet owners around the globe are feeding dry commercial pet foods. Of those 96%, there is a large majority that believes dried commercial pet food is really all their pet needs and would never stop to consider the benefits of adding fresh “human food”.

(“Human food” definition in this article: clean sources of meat-based proteins and some organic plant matter, not beer and nachos 😉)

There are many reasons why some of these pet parents feel this way, however the most popular reason today seems to be the 50-year-old rumor that is in existence and still spreading.

You know the one: “Giving your animal table scraps is bad!”

How or when did this terrible rumor start?

Well, if we go back in time, research shows that shortly after the invention of processed pet foods, manufacturers were having a hard time convincing pet parents to make the switch from foods in their refrigerators to their commercial pet foods.

So in 1964, the pet food industry, along with the PFI, joined together with a whole bunch of marketing dollars and launched one of the most influential campaigns the pet world had ever seen: the “Ban All Table Scraps from your Pets’ Bowls” campaign!

Through thousands of newspapers, magazines, and news stations, the public was warned about the dangers of table food scraps or “human food” and the importance of feeding “processed” commercial pet food. From there, the giant smear campaign took off!

Not only did this clever campaign work, but it was so impactful that now, 50 years later, folks are still in fear of offering anything that is not labeled pet food.

SO IS IT A GOOD THING TO ONLY OFFER YOUR PET DRIED KIBBLE?

Not according to ongoing research it isn’t, especially with today’s cancer rates being 1 in 2 dogs!

In a 2005 study conducted at Purdue University on Scottish Terriers, the results showed that adding fresh vegetables to dry commercial kibble actually prevented and/or slowed down the development of transitional cell carcinoma (aka bladder cancer)!

In the study, dogs ate a diet of dry commercial pet food, while some got an assortment of vegetables added to the mix at least 3 times per week.

When the study was concluded, according to the researchers, they weren’t really shocked by the results.

Here’s what they found:

Dogs that ate any green leafy vegetables, like broccoli, had reduced the risk of developing bladder cancer by 90% and the dogs that consumed any yellow – orange vegetables like carrots reduced the risk by 70%!

Seriously! A lousy carrot helped smash the potential of cancer.

( http://ilarjournal.oxfordjournals.org/content/55/1/100.full ) (Raghavan, Knapp, Bonney, 2005) http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/16013542/

Yes, of course cats are obligate carnivores (must have meat to survive) and our dogs are facultative carnivores (carnivores with omnivorous potential if circumstances demand) so offering clean meat-based protein sources should always be top priority and essential.

However, because today’s world is ever-so changing due to factory farmed livestock being fed genetically modified grains and our planet being contaminated with every type of pesticide, fungicide and larvicide, the importance of fresh, organic plant matter to help detox the body couldn’t be more crucial.

So if the “cancer reducing benefit” doesn’t tickle your fancy enough to convince you to add any “human fresh foods” to your pet’s bowl, then maybe think of it this way:

How bad would it suck if someone forced you to eat dry processed foods your whole lIfe?!

HELP! I can’t seem to get any weight off my dog!😫

Struggling to help your pooch🐶 shed those extra pounds? Or looking to prevent some of the most common lifestyle-related diseases plaguing our canine companions (including obesity, diabetes and cancer)?

Did you know that just feeding your dog within a specific window of time has not only the potential to optimize their weight, but can also reduce the likelihood of some of the most common chronic diseases plaguing our pets’ today? When trying to help their dogs lose weight, many pet parents have hit a wall trying to get those extra pounds off their pets! Some folks have tried special diets, have signed up to special exercise classes or they may have tried cutting their food portions in half and nothing seems to work.🤯

The good news? Research shows simply changing WHEN⏰ we feed our dogs increases fat burning, improves energy, and can help get those extra pounds of your dog! You can positively affect your dog’s metabolism and overall well-being simply by feeding all of his or her daily calories within an 8-hour window.🕰

In fact, according to longevity scientists, one of the two most important factors that dictate life span and health span is WHEN⏰ you feed your dog.

We sat down with Dr. Satchin Panda of the Salk Institute and Harvard University’s Dr. David Sinclair to discuss the profound health benefits of creating a daily “eating window,”🪟 which follows a dog’s evolutionary feast-and-fast cycle, and the remarkable health benefits that come by instituting this simple longevity strategy, including a reduced risk of cancer, reduced inflammation in the body, improved brain🧠 health, and a longer lifespan!🧬

In our upcoming book, The Forever Dog, we devote an entire chapter called “Personalized Meals as Medicine💊” and provide a blueprint on how to transition your dog to a healthier lifestyle, one step at a time, including how to determine what your dog’s eating window should be, based around your own lifestyle and schedule.

OFFER FOODS TO YOUR DOG🐶 THAT CAN ACTIVATE THEIR LONGEVITY GENES🧬!

All hail the mighty Sardine🐟!! These small fish are named after the "Blue Zone" island of Sardinia🏝, which is home to some of the longest-lived people in the world, and one of the staple fish consumed by these centenarians.👵🏼🧓🏼

Why feed these to your dog🐾? Because sardines are jam-packed with important nutrients, it makes them one of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet and one of our recommended “🌟 Core Longevity Toppers🌟” to add to your dog’s bowl!

Check it out: Sardines are a rich source of selenium⚡️ that is vital for thyroid health, and helpful in neutralizing free radicals and protecting the organs🫁 from damage. Sardines are also an excellent source of vitamin B-12⚡️ which supports healthy methylation, nerve function and detoxification. Sardines supply the highest levels of EPA and DHA ⚡️and the lowest levels of mercury of any fish.

Dozens of human studies involving hundreds of thousands of participants eating sardines twice a week found consumption reduces the risk of dying from heart disease🫀 by 36 percent, with Dr. Aleix Sala-Vila’s research group concluding regular consumption may increase life expectancy in humans by 5 years. These essential fatty acids also play a big role in your dog’s🐕 skin integrity by decreasing inflammation and promoting healthy skin function.

Sardines also supply a rich food source of vitamin D⚡️, which is vital for our dogs’ overall health and must be consumed in the diet, as dogs can’t make vitamin D from sunlight☀️.

Finally, these small fish serve up CoQ10⚡️, a coenzyme with antioxidant properties. Extensive research shows that CoQ10 boosts cellular energy output throughout the body. By increasing the efficiency of our mitochondrial powerhouses, CoQ10 reduces oxidant damage and provides protection for every cell in the body, potentially extending both healthspan and lifespan.

One of the best reasons to regularly feed sardines in place of other fish is because of their sustainability🌊 and low levels of contamination. Buy sardines packed in water (or fresh, if you can get ’em, steer clear of farmed fish). A sardine for every 20lbs of body weight, two or three times a week, will do the trick.

Looking for more Core Longevity Toppers to add to your dog's food to help improve their healthspan and lifespan? Checkout our full list of foods in the new The Forever Dog Longevity book! ➡️ foreverdogextras.com/pet-longevity
