Dotty & her boys The Herding Place #theherdingplace
Beautiful morning at The Herding Place .
The cattle got some time to play in the pasture while we got their new one ready for them. Had to move them since their “dry lot” was getting too deep & mucky for them to move freely. Gertrude, Bill & Juni were having a great time. We moved Charleen & Helen closer to the house so we can keep an eye on them since they could both calve any day now.
Walked the pasture & arena today & I'm happy to report there was NO standing water 🙌🏼🙌🏼. There are still some very soft spots so no dog work yet but it’s getting closer. Of course the forecast says rain the next 3 days but if it’s as light as they say we’ll be fine. There’s even sun in the forecast for next week, I hope it actually happens 🙏🏻🤞🏼. With any luck lessons can start back up in a week or two so now’s the time to send me a message so we can formulate a plan.
Gus
Gus & I helped the neighbors move some cattle today. It became obvious he needs more distance work but I’m pretty happy with him. He’s gotten the short end of the stick as far as training time so hopefully I’ll spend more time with him this year. I got quite a few steps in going to help him lol. #rndgus #happydog
Lexi turned 7 months today so got to work. Her brother, Todd came back to us yesterday as his potential home didn’t work out, so he got to work as well & both these pups are really nice!! Todd is in search of a home that will provide adequate exercise, structure & training.
It’s a mess outside. Steady rain is melting the snow but now we have ice, snow, standing water & mud. Thankfully for buildup bedding do the critters can get out if it. The ducks are very happy lol. It’s going to be messy for a while. Thank God we have the carport so the dogs have a dry outdoor space.
Bill cracks me up

Sheep haven’t been worked since Nov so Mike reminded them about moving when ask to tonight. #rndmike
Cletus really wanted to help with the bulls! #rndcletus #cowdog
Todd is a 5 month old border collie x Idaho shag that is looking for employment. He’s only been on sheep about 6 times. He’s not afraid to go to head or heal & he’ll give tight spaces a go with a little help. This guy could be a real asset on a ranch. He’s crate trained, uses the doggy door & has a nice off switch.
Bert is a 1yr old, intact, male. He is NOT registered. Has just barely been started on sheep, this is his 2nd time seeing cattle.
Good off switch, loves everyone, good with my pack of dogs, seems to ignore the cats. He’s crate trained & uses the doggy door. He’s looking for employment.
