Chance 2005 – Sept. 25, 2017
It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of one of Borderlands’ therapy horses, 12 year-old Chance. He was given to me 4 years ago and was really doing well under saddle as a trail horse, too. He was very comfortable to ride and at 16+ hands he could really cover some ground. Chance was one of the four horses that participated in the research project at Borderlands Center in 2014 looking at the effects of an equine-facilitated learning interaction on older adults. Our research team measured the effects on both the horses and the humans. Chance was new to the work then, but he loved people and was eager to engage. He was always very kind and willing to please even at the end when he was in so much pain. All who knew him will miss him. Thanks to Joan and Mark Williams for taking such good care of him and to Dr. Phelps for trying his best on Sunday night to find a way to heal my dear Chance. Sadly there was no cure this time. Enjoy your freedom to run free with the horse ancestors my sweet boy.
