Hi Neighbors. This is Precious. She is a special needs, 6 year old pit-lab mix. She has suffered from blindness since she was a pup and is dealing with a little deafness. Although she is not a registered service dog because of her special needs, she is a true therapeutic blessing to her life-long owner.
She was taken to the Standiford Veterinary Center emergency in Modesto and has been diagnosed with open pyometra – this can be a life threatening health issue as some of you know. The vet is highly recommending surgery but due to a cost issue, he put her on heavy antibiotics for the time being until surgery can hopefully be done.
Vet costs are high and we are reaching out to our community for help on behalf of her owner.
Our goal is $6500.00 by the emergency care estimated by Standiford Veterinary Center in Modesto.

HeadWinds Ranch is a local non-profit, 501c3 so any donation, big or small, is tax deductible and greatly appreciated..

She brought home a bummer lamb today!
He was born this morning in a field and rejected by his own mom. but with care and prayer, I'm sure he'll do just fine and we will be able to play together "soon"

He lived with us during the early days when Horses of Warriors first started their veterans program and used our facilities.

Her name is "Lil' Red Bull Betty" and named appropriately 😂
She's as wild as they come! - even tried to bully her way through the stall gate as soon as Kiki and Tyler got her home!
She is still a baby, only nine months old, but mama Kiki has her work cut out for her.
She is settling in slowly but surely and we will keep up you up to date as our "Lil' Red Bull Betty" progresses

They are located at the same feedlot in Texas where mama Kiki rescued us! That was not a happy place and I'm glad she got us out of there!

Angels For Minis, a 501c3 non-profit Mini Horse resource, located in the SF Bay Area (covering the Western and Central US) are there now trying to make arrangements to safely rescue all of them.

There is a whole herd of these little ones and many of the mares are heavily bred, just like my mommy, Cricket was. and need a safe place to have their babies!

Ok, so Kiki had to turn the hose on me and get me wet 'cause Baby Lucia jumped the fence again into my pen so we could play - Why, I don't know - we were just playing! But she moved me into another stall and put up a second fence so Lucia couldn't jump through anymore.
The neighbors hear me all the time still - I will always have something to say - but I guess my inner clock works real well!🤓 They say they know when it's 7am and 7pm, ..... and 2am - what ever that is - I just remind Kiki we're hungry sometimes.
Any way, I think I know what being gelded means now - for a minute there I really needed my mommy!
I was afraid and didn't want to go so I put on the brakes and made even the biggest dude fight to get me into that ol' jalopy stall with four wheels - they had to pick me up :D because I am strong like that! - My brakes were on the whole time LOL!..... until I fell asleep - Glad it's over and I'm safe at home ^_^

FUN DONKEY FACT: Even though I am a mini, my go**ds are bigger that a full size horse and my shin is tougher than nails (hard to get a needle in ) ! Some vets won't work on donkeys just for that reason, I heard them say - but you know what? I am proud of my thick shin and the strength I have for being just a little guy. Jesus made us the way we are. One of us had carried Him and He handed us His cross to wear ✝️❤️

Ok... so even our sunflowers are miss-fits!
Have you ever seen something so dumb!?
YES!...... They are sunflowers! Jack-in-the-beanstalk sunflowers, but sunflowers just the same.
The same flowers that are supposed to be facing the sun☀️, The same flowers that are known to look face to face when it's cloudy outside just to feed off each other's energy -
Look at these sad-sacks! Their all bowing their heads, all curled up backwards and leaning on each others stems.
🎶🎶 Lean on me when your not strong🎶🎶 I can understand the little guy nestled in that trunk of a stem, but look at that big ol' guy in the next picture hanging on for dear life!................... Then you have that perky little guy in the corner - you can almost see the smile on his face.......... but he still ain't facing the sun. (bet he's happy he ain't on the other side of the line - the horse next door bit off the head of that one)

Update from Jacky Sprinkles:
Summer is over and I am going to miss all the kids, at least 'till Winter camps start.
Little sister, Lucia and my buddy,Toby kept playing with the bucket hose, pulling it all out and playing with it in the yard so Kiki had to move the whole hose contraption into the barn breezeway - then.... :D the hose popped a hole in it and sprayed all over the place getting our fresh bedding and first aid cupboards all wet - took awhile to dry - hehehe
Why stores stop selling garden hoses this time of year doesn't make sense - don't people use hose year round? Kiki does :P

Anyway, it's also time for ranch cleanup and I'm doing my part in eating up some of the weeds, but also so we can make room for more junk (just kidding) The ranch is holding an online barn sale fundraiser/yard sale. (we do this every year)

Update from Jacky Sprinkles
Uncle Buddy got on my nerves yesterday so I picked a fight with him and we rumbled pretty much all day!
Who knew old Uncle Buddy could hold his own, but the girls next door still love me more.
Kiki separated me from him last night – I wouldn’t let him eat :D She even spent half the day today setting up the stall across the way for me but all that did was upset me more and make me honk all day…….so did Uncle Buddy…. And mommy, Cricket…. And even my little sister, Lucia! ….hehehe. Pretty Nadie and my little bud, Toby even made some noise - The sound of foghorns, mice and high pitched goats echoing through the valley all day - – I’m sure the neighbors love us now! We sounded great!
Yea, but that’s nothin’ really to what little Lucia got herself into today.
You see, Lucia likes to play with the water hose while Kiki is fillin’ the water buckets – Kiki left it kinda hanging, just long enough for Lucia……opps…… by dinnertime Lucia had part of that new 100 ft. cloth-like fancy water hose wrapped around her body as she dragged the piled, twisted, rest of the mess in circles.
I thought it was a “Kodak Moment” but Kiki was freakin’ out :D
It took her over an hour to untie Lucia from the twisted bundle of hose - then she had to untwist the stinkin’ hose!
Like undoing one of Maverick’s fairy knots, but 100 feet of hair LOL

A first for Rusty! At least the first I've seen in the 5 years we've had him.
He was down and rolling - then got back up.....by himself!
Why is that such a big deal? Because he never goes down, unless he falls. When he goes down, it's always been a red flag issue and has always needed help getting back on his feet again - especially these past five months.
I found him upside down in the creek over Christmas and it took 5 of us to roll him over and back on his feet . He suffered swollen legs and was sore for quite a while. . Not sure what happened to put him there in that creek but for the next five months he's been confined to either his stall and paddock or the arena - the amount of rain we have had to deal with didn't help him either. I've even been concerned he might be having seizures.
Sometimes his balance was so bad, I've held off in getting his feet trimmed in fear he'd fall over and kill the farrier (LOL)
His front knees are capped real bad now but doesn't seem to bother him anymore and we have finally had a successful trim.
He's always had arthritis though, which originally led me to believe that's why he never goes down to roll or sleep - because it's too painful in getting up - Although he has a habit of falling asleep on his feet, I've always been concerned he doesn't seem to ever get his required REM sleep either.
I don't know if it's the Equinety or the CBD oil or both that I've had him on these past two months that gave him the strength to get up on his own. - Yes, it might just be a one time milestone event - But I guess we'll see - He still has that spark in his eyes (even though he really can't see :P ) , he still nickers when he knows his meal is coming and even though I am preparing for an end-life plan, he’s telling me it's not quite that time yet.

Rusty's current treatments include Equinity, HempWorx CBD oil (500mg) and an assortment of essential oils that are benifical for joint disconfort
