Miss Luna says “Please mama just a whittle more milk 💞”

Did you know that we have to limit the amount of milk that we give to our baby animals or they would eat until their little bellies pop. It’s called “bloat”. In the wild their mom, knows how to limit how much they eat.
When we feed our little babies, there is a specific mathematic formula that we use to determine how much to feed them. Everything that we do in rehabbing is specific to make sure that these babies grow up healthy and strong. 🥰

So remember if your child or someone you know asks,
“CAN WE KEEP IT? “ the answer should always be, no, let’s find a Wildlife Rehabber and give it the best life it can have ❣️

THE TIME HAS FINALLY COME!!! After spending an extra long "winter" with us, we have over 60 turtles that are ready to be released *beginning this weekend (the weekend of May 6th)*! WE NEED YOUR HELP getting them back to their homes. There are wayyyy too many cities and towns to list this time, from all over the state, so if you want to help us release turtles over the next couple of weeks, please comment below with the COUNTY or COUNTIES you're willing to release in. Please note the following:
*You must be able to pick the turtle up at our facility in Florence, MS. We cannot bring them to you.
*Aquatic turtle releases will be in a general area based on the watershed from which that turtle(s) came. We usually will let you pick the actual body of water within that area unless we've been able to scout one out in advance.
*Box turtles have to be released in a very specific place or to an individual. That place may require you make a short hike through some woods to get to the right spot.
*In some cases, you may be taking your turtle back to its original rescuer so that they can release it. In most cases like this, the finders don't mind a joint release so that both of you can enjoy seeing it go free.
*If you'd prefer to release only box turtles or only aquatic turtles, or have any other special requests or concerns, please stipulate that in your comment.
*Releases should be done in the morning or early afternoon so that the turtle has a chance to find a nice safe spot for the night, before the predators wake up and start hunting.
*Please include the day you can pick up and release with your comment.

Volunteers will be chosen in the order of the comments, but we will also factor in how soon you can do your release. (In other words if someone comments today that they can release in Lee County 3 weeks from now, but then someone else comes along tomorrow and offers to release in Leel County this weekend, we'll obviously choose the one that gets the turtle back home the quickest.)

I will reach out to you by Facebook Messenger if you're chosen, so please be sure to watch your "other inbox" or "message requests" so you don't miss the message. Please don't get worried if it takes me a few days to reach out to you. I'm only one person and I have a whole lot on my plate, so my responses can be a little slow at times.

UPDATE: one of our volunteers has offered to help out with north Mississippi turtles. She can come here to get them and take them back up I-55 with her. If you want to release any in north MS, you can meet up with her along her way north or pick up from her house in Enid (between Grenada and Batesville).

The Southaven Police Department is sad to announce the passing of one of our retired police service dogs. Mag, a 12 year-old Belgian Malinois, passed away on February 10th, 2023 in the company of his former handler and family. Mag honorably served the Southaven Police Department as a Patrol and Explosive Detection K-9 from 2011-2017. During that time, Mag developed a reputation as a phenomenal tracking dog by finding and apprehending numerous criminals. Mag was also a highly decorated K-9 by achieving several accolades at the American Working Dog K-9 Olympics in Denver, Indiana. Mag placed 1st overall in Patrol and 1st in Area Search in 2012. Mag also placed 2nd overall in Explosive Vehicle Detection in 2016. In addition to serving the City of Southaven at a high level for many years, Mag also was utilized in mutual aid capacities for explosive sweeps at the University of Mississippi and several other law enforcement agencies whenever called upon to do so. After retirement, Mag spent the remainder of his days at home with his former handler and family.

Mag was an outstanding canine who was loved by many within the Southaven Police Department and left a lasting impact on everyone that he was around. We ask that you keep his handler and family in your thoughts and prayers during this time.

UPDATE: SHE'S HOME SAFE!!
She was found today and is unharmed. She's back home and enjoying a big meal! 🥰🥰🥰
.....

If you've been following WLBT tonight, you've seen the story about the tortoise in Madison County. Great news!!! The owners have been found!! 💜 They lost a section of their fence yesterday and not one, but TWO, of their tortoises escaped. They are still missing a smaller female (pictured below). If you are in the Farmhaven area of Canton, please be on the lookout for this tortoise. Her family is devastated and are worried sick about her. If you spot her, please collect her (she doesn't bite) and call us at 601-672-1418. If you're not in the Farmhaven area, please share this post so it'll get around to other folks in that community.
