I offer many services, including Basic Obedience, Behavior Modification, Puppy Programs, Trick Class and more. My name is Madison Hensley, Certified Professional Dog Trainer and Behavior Specialist as well as the owner of Year of the Dog, a dog training business devoted to achieving balanced relationships between owners and their canine companions. My first real steps into the world of animals sta
rted when I worked as an animal caretaker for the Dawson Middle School Animal Science Program in Southlake, Texas. Everyday I got hands-on experience with both domestic and exotic wildlife, handling everything from the cute and fluffy to the cold and scale-covered. Enjoying the experience of working with wildlife, I next turned my attention to my favorite, much more domestic species: the dog. After going to local animal shelters in search of volunteer help, I found a great new way to spend time with animals. However, it became apparent that many of these animals and their adopters needed help. Most adopters were first-time dog owners and many of the dogs had no idea how to behave correctly in a human pack. It did not take me long to establish that I wanted to help this situation and at the same time, follow a career goal that I would truly enjoy for my lifetime. The answer was simple: dog training. After graduating high school, I set out to learn all I could about canine psychology. Needless to say that when I heard about the world-renowned Triple Crown Academy for Dog Trainers, I packed my bags and headed to Austin, Texas for an intensive training program that would give me the knowledge I needed to receive my certification as a Professional Dog Trainer and Behavior Specialist. At TCA, I learned under Jessy Gabriel, a Certified Professional Dog Trainer and Animal Care Specialist who has trained thousands of dogs as well as represented the United States in WUSV World Schutzhund Championships and FCI World Schutzhund Championships. I also received a wealth of knowledge and experience from Rob Dunn, a Certified Professional Dog Trainer and the head trainer for the Round Rock Police Department K-9 team, who also represented the United States in several World Championship Schutzhund events. While under their tutelage, I taught many breeds, sizes, and temperaments of dogs, including the opportunity to work with one of Jessy Gabriel's SchH III canines, a high drive German Shepherd that taught me the power and intensity of a titled, working dog. After graduating the internationally acclaimed school for dog training with specialization in Search and Rescue and Scent-Detection, it became my mission to help dog owners develop healthy, meaningful relationships with their dogs. A strong bond requires proper communication, leadership, and attention to what your dog needs…my job is to help teach you exactly how to form these bonds. With the right training, your dog can be a calm, balanced member of your pack. Let me show you my passion for dogs by helping you and your dog develop trust between one another. Let me prove to you that any dog can learn new, good behaviors and stop the inappropriate ones. Allow me to show you why every year should be the Year of the Dog.
