This sporty mare is incredibly athletic with lots of motion! She has been shown country, but can easily access more motion for the English. Photo Dump! The Eddie Macmurdo show in Walla Walla is always a blast to attend. We love taking our up and coming riders there to get some good horse show experience! These girls cleaned their own stalls, groomed, braided and prepped for the show pen by themselves 🤩 so proud of how hard they worked and how well they managed their time! We had some great learning opportunities and wonderful success at this show! Congratulations to all the girls!!

We are so incredibly thankful for the vets that keep our horses healthy and sound! We need to remember they are an incredibly vital part of owning a horse, so remember to show your vet your appreciation!!

Have you been waiting longer than usual for an open appointment with your veterinarian or been unable to access after-hours services for your horse? The shortage of equine veterinarians in the U.S. is likely the cause. Many veterinary practices have too few horse doctors to service all their clients.

Why? Only about 6% of new veterinary graduates annually enter equine practice. After five years, 50% of these young veterinarians leave for small animal practice or quit veterinary medicine altogether. The primary reasons are the personal demands of the profession and equine practice’s lower starting salaries. Many new veterinarians begin their career with more than $200,000 in student loan debt, making an equine position with lower compensation often unthinkable. When financial concerns are combined with the always present demands of emergency coverage, many equine veterinarians choose to leave for a healthier way of life.

The good news is that the AAEP along with private veterinary practices and veterinary schools are addressing the pain points which have led to the current crisis. But the solution is complex and will require the support and collaboration of every person in the equine industry — including horse owners. As we work to improve the profession for current and future veterinarians, you have a huge role to play in the much-needed transformation of equine practice. Horse doctors look forward to working together with you for the good of the horse and the sustainability of veterinary care!

Spokane is currently in the hazardous zone for air quality. Some good information for us horse people!

Wildfire season is sadly upon us.
The AIR QUALITY in our area is of serious concern due to the wildfires currently burning in the region.
Please keep your horse's respiratory health in mind while we experience these smokey conditions. The smoke can trigger significant lower airway inflammation in healthy horses, and even more so in horses with pre-existing asthma.
We recommend short, light rides - meaning your horse's respiratory rate is minimally elevated during work and the workload does not result in breaking a sweat when there is a moderate to heavy smoke layer = 150 (Unhealthy) or higher on the Air Quality Index chart. If your horse has been diagnosed with asthma, we recommend walking rides only and making sure to eliminate as much dust in the horse's environment as possible. Just like some people, some horses are much more susceptible to these conditions than others.

So Proud of Bianca and Solomon! They are really bonding and learning about each other. After making it through several elimination rounds, she finally had her first semi final-final for the JOTR 14-18 on Solomon this morning walking away with an exciting Top Ten ribbon (third over-all!!) One more final for them tomorrow. I’m LOVING these two together! More pics later. We had back to back classes!

Scottsdale 2020 is a wrap! Two girls and 6 horses did all of this!!! Super proud of Grace and Bianca and the young horsewomen they have become and are still becoming. I am blessed to be on this journey with these incredible girls!! Big thanks to Ron P for his continued mentorship and assistance! Also, a huge thank you to Aysha Al-Hafian and Jade Wentland for your guys’ hard work in helping prepare and get these horses ready for the show ring!
