I lived in TX for 4 years. I love Texas dogs and I know how awful it is there. I have worked with rescues saving dogs from Texas for 8.5 years. 4 when I was there and 4.5 years from here in Spokane. Pene, Sparty, and Goldie Hawn all came from Texas - so to flat out say that I “value”the lives of local dogs over Texas dogs is untrue and insulting to say the very least.

I am however currently prioritizing local dogs. We used to be a safe haven for dogs coming from high kill states. We aren’t anymore. We are watching shelters and rescues turning away dogs, dogs of all ages being dumped (goose and maverick were dumped and would not have survived another day) more stray dogs (Biggie is an example of stray - there was no one looking for him) and more loose dogs being hit because if the finder can’t hold on to them they are advised to turn them loose.

I firmly believe that it is reckless and completely irresponsible to bring in dogs from other states when our local dogs can’t find placement, are being euthanized or dying in the streets because there is no where else for them to go.

Rescues here are struggling and begging for help.

I am humbly asking that if you are looking to adopt that you seek out a local rescue supporting local dogs. It breaks my heart to say that but we have to clean up our mess here so that we can return to the place where we can be a safe haven for high kill states again. We are at a breaking point and if we don’t fix it soon it will be too late.

This is a prime example of why I am all up on rehoming pages reporting every BYB I see.

These puppies may be physically healthy but are waaaaay more likely to have all kinds of behavioral issues from leaving mom way too early.

Then the buyer doesn’t want to deal with those issues and guess where they end up.

As many of you know I’ve been walloped recently with house issues, health issues and vet bills. Especially as I took on both Biggie and Goose without rescue backing.

Biggie is too amazing of dog and he deserves the absolute best life ever. He just needs help getting over the past traumas that have led us here, which is unfortunately above my ability to train him on.

Because if you allow this, you don’t get to get upset if your dog snaps at or bites your precious child.

Dogs die when you’re too lazy to train your children.

🎊🎉🥳 FOSTER WIN ANNOUNCEMENT 🥳🎉🎊

Bryon was saved from death row with mere minutes to spare. I know ya’ll think I’m dramatic, but legitimately we’re talking less than 10 minutes.

Cuz i Matter Animal Rescue was only able to save him because his hero, Melody Cantu Velazquez stepped up to foster him.

We are SO SO excited to announce that his hero has now become his MOM!

We couldn’t be more thrilled at this news as you can see the deep connection they have! When it’s your soul dog, you just know.

There are so many dogs just like Bryon that are amazing family dogs that are just waiting for their hero. Whether that hero becomes their forever home or a stop on their journey they cannot be saved without people like YOU!

Did you know that dogs from the shelter need a minimum of three days to decompress?

Less is more the first few days. Give lots of space and time to rest. No need to meet resident animals right away!

URGENT!!! SPOKANE WA

SPOKANE, WA: Buddy and Scotty’s dad is older, and now ill, and can no longer take care of his boys and needs to rehome them. They can go separately or together.

Their dad’s granddaughter reports:

Buddy is 7 years old, Rhodesian and Red Heeler. Scotty is 4 years old, Border Collie. Scotty has allergies and needs a shot every 6-8 weeks ($110) and the special food (Purina Prescription we believe).

Both are completely house trained, they are inside dogs with a doggie door. Buddy is good with cats, Scotty is not. Both are good with dogs We believe. Both neutered and up to date on shots. They are not well trained and jump on people, so not sure they would be good with small children until they are taught to not jump on people. They are not aggressive at all and very friendly. Very sweet dogs. Could easily be trained by the right person.
