You may notice something different at your next visit to SAH. We put in a tech room! It's a smaller room for our staff to use for quick things like tech appointments and surgery drop offs and discharges. It is located directly across from reception so we do ask that your pet is always on a short controlled leash since there may be a higher incidence of dogs crossing paths. We are very excited about this new room and can't wait to see how it we can fully utilize it!

Chester was in last week to see Dr.Mike for his yearly check up. Now Chester is a bit nervous and just couldn't stand the thought of a doctors visit without his emotion support teddy๐ป Thank goodness he brought his Teddy since we needed to collect a blood sample for his heartworm and tick test! Chester was the sweetest boy and was so brave with Teddy by his side(or in his mouth ๐) We want to encourage/support the use of emotional support Teddys๐งธ or even bring your pets favorite ball to their next visit! It's a great distraction tool and helps our staff create a good/fun experience for your pet๐พ๐พ
With heartworm and tick season (well let's be honest tick season never stops) already upon us, you may have received a notice for your pets heartworm/tick test. This test is performed right in clinic by our lovely veterinary technicians. We use a specfic test made by Idexx called a Snap 4DX plus. This means it's testing for 4 different diseases, heartworm, anaplasma, ehrlichia and Lyme disease. Heartworm is just what it sounds like a worm in your pets heart! The other 3 are all tick borne diseases which are commonly found in our area. This test require 3 drops of blood from your pet mixed with 4 drops of conjugate (blue liquid provided with each test), mixed together and ran in the snap test. It takes 8 minutes to run this right in clinic. We use a machine to run this test called a Snap Pro to help with workflow because you have to snap the test (hence the name) which can take up to 1 and 1/2 minutes to complete. The machine then pops up with the results that a technician reviews and confirms. Watch the video below if you want to see how this is done at SAH.

COVID 19 policy update:
1.) We are still asking that you wear a mask when you are in the clinic
2.) If you are here for your scheduled appointment please call the clinic and let them know you are here for your appointment. We will take down your cell phone and call you when we have a room ready. Please have your cell phone right by your side and pick up promptly when we call you back. * if you do not have a cell phone come to the medication window and give a description of your vehicle*
3.) If you still need a curbside appointment please let us know when you call to make your appointment or when you arrive for your appointment.
4.) Surgery appointments are still operating as a curbside appointment. Please call us when you are in the parking lot, give a description of your vehicle and a technician will come out to you.
5.) If you are here to pick up medications please come to the medication window. Please knock on the window, you may have to wait a few minutes until a receptionist or technician is available to help you.
6.) If your dogs appointment is for a urinary issue and you were not successful at collecting a sample at home please let the receptionists know when you check in. We ask that you please leave your dog in the vehicle until a technician comes out to collect a urine sample
7.)Most importantly please be patient. We are trying to adjust to all the new CDC recommendations to keep not only our staff but our clients healthy. We are experiencing higher volumes all around and are trying our best to help accommodate all our clients.
