I created this blogging page maybe last spring or summer. I had some health stuff going on and I would spend all day with Dex. I often (daily) posted his picture and wrote about him. Over the past three (almost 4 now) weeks I have wondered if...if ever this would pop back up. Two days ago it did. You see, this has to be past tense now. Because three years ago, the world's greatest beagle, took his last breath. Unexpected and out of nowhere, shortly after his 14th birthday, he had developed what I thought was just an upset stomach. Not too uncommon for him from time to time. Then, when he wouldn't eat his favorite thing in the world, popcorn chicken from KFC, I knew he had to get to the vet. He was still drinking, but Monday, Feb 8, we got the news that he was in late stage kidney failure. Due to his age, there was nothing we could do. I made the choice to bring him home to stay one more night. He was given enough pain medicine to make it through the night, and for the most part it was peaceful for him. I bent down and held him and locked eyes with him, and the best dog, hell maybe the best friend I've ever known drifted off to sleep.

But I've got so many pictures, videos and memories that I am glad this popped back up. He, like us, was defined more in life than that last day. He was a rescue dog who I got at 1.5 years old. I already had a beagle I had raised from a puppy, but very, very soon it was apparent he was different. He wasn't destructive. He was very meek and mild when we got him. We discovered he had epilepsy, but also I discovered he liked to lay in the bed with me and for many years he would sleep through the night and next day and over time we developed a special bond. He was there for me at the best and worst of times. But his last year was his best, I hope. I'll publish this soon. It's hard to type through blurry eye's and heartache. You lived up to the name of this page, that's for sure bubba. I guess if you were here, I would just tell you" Thank you. And as I've said a million times, there is not a dog on this Earth, now above it, more loved than you."
