Scene prep!
Arty and I practicing a few minutes for her scene on location for a movie in which they needed a rear horse. No matter what life throws at us: excessive heat, flat tires, changes of schedule, etc., I am blessed beyond measure to be able to do what I love with my girl. I often wonder if her old owners who rejected her would be jealous and want her back. Would they understand what a loss they had in giving her up and letting her roam on a dirt road? Sheโs absolutely what us horse people call a โheart horse.โ One that comes into your life and touches your soul. She will forever be at home with me. Iโd do anything for her. Brilliant, quirky, sometimes a huge pain, but always gives her best effort. You rock, Arty. Even if they cut your scene, youโre a star in my eyes. โค๏ธ
Just started Hawk on mounted shooting. This is just his second time being shot off of! Full loads and doing WONDERFUL!!! ๐๐๐. FOR CONSIDERATION! See my previous post for more pics and info.
This is the bay gelding we sold recently and the new owner has kept him in training to get him ready to compete. He is new to shooting but took right to it. Hereโs Emerson running a pattern on him last week.

Koda on his third shoot with Emerson. You can clearly see the progress they are making! Great job you two!
Emerson here is demonstrating how we usually start new shooting horses to pattern work. In order to prevent the horses from becoming flighty, we like to start at a trot and shoot every other or every third balloon, etc, depending how how they are responding. We make absolutely SURE to shoot on BOTH sides of the horse and then ease them down to a walk before crossing the โtimer lineโ. (Much easier to add speed later after they have a good handle on what is expected of them).
Do not push too soon! Itโs better to go slow and not overwhelm them, especially early on in their training.
This filly is up for consideration and is just four years old. She prefers no ear plugs and is handling shooting VERY well. We did a lot of prep work before getting to this stage of her training in order to set her up for success!
She also is learning to lay down on cue and has been taught to side pass to a mounting block. ๐๐๐๐. She is out of a full brother to Paddyโs Irish Whiskey and is part of the AQHA Heritage program!! โค๏ธโค๏ธ๐ด๐ด๐ด๐ด
Some pics of Millie the Clydesdale learning to bow for her National Anthem performance this summer! Itโs always clumsy in the beginning because they just arenโt sure what to do with their feet but sheโs getting lower and leaning back further each day. Sheโs a sweet horse and that leg is HEAVY, yaโll!!! ๐. I got to measure her. Iโm betting sheโs 17 plus hands.
Yaโll remember Flirt?? This is a two year old I started last summer at the shoot in Vernon doing a time-only. I have a baby out of the same stallion due next month who is in the stallion incentive program. Abby is doing a great job of taking it slow so this filly continues on her path to success! Way to go you two!!!! โค๏ธ๐ด๐๐๐๐ฅณ๐ฅณ๐ฅณ๐ค ๐ค ๐ค ๐ค ๐๐๐๐
A short clip of behind the scenes of teaching your horse to lay down on cue using my three year old HF Mobster filly.
Kodaโs first time shooting balloons, first time in an indoor and second ride away from home!!! He is SUCH a good boy! Just a three year old gelding and an own son of Electric Code. We are going slow so he can get confidence without much pressure. Desi, youโll have so much fun with him!
Rattle has to be busy at ALL times. ๐๐ Notorious for untying himself, chewing on breast collars, wheel barrows, and making fart noises with his mouth. ๐
Trick training the fall.
Week one in the books.
When Santa gives you a cordless leaf blower for Xmasโฆ..
Tarp work makes the brain work! This is such a great exercise to do, even with your older horses.
The buckskin is a Paddys Irish Whiskey two year old that is for sale. ๐ Iโm still getting to know her but she is very smooth and a very sweet girl.
Cisco is the palomino and for a chunky guy he is quick on his feet but also very smooth to ride. ๐ค . He is a sweet boy, too. โค๏ธ
Arenโt these two pretty???
My intern, Emerson, is getting hooked on mounted shooting! This is just her second day of trying this. ๐ค
A great little barn hack to prevent your horse from ever stepping on that spare rein, again!
Koda is a two year old own son of Electric Code who will be offered for consideration in the Spring. Very good trick horse with a quiet and calm demeanor. Nothing ruffles his feathers.
Flirtโs first shoot (time only)
Flirt is a two year old filly I started and took her to a match and did three time onlyโs on her. Sheโs going to make a nice reliable horse!
