Thank you to everyone who made our Clear the Shelter Event a huge success! 🎉

Because of your support, we found loving homes for 22 dogs and puppies, and 19 kittens and cats on Saturday! But the good news didn’t stop there—we continued the momentum on Sunday with 10 more dogs and puppies and one kitten getting adopted for a total of 52 adoptions!

We couldn’t have done it without our incredible adopters, volunteers, and supporters. Your dedication to helping our animals find their forever homes is truly inspiring. Thank you for making a difference in their lives!

🎉🐾TNR is Back at the Stockton Animal Shelter!🐾🎉
The City of Stockton Animal Shelter is offering four TNR dates for August! Registration begins Sunday, 08/04/2024, from 7:30-8:30am. Spots are limited and are on a first-come, first-served basis at the time of registration. 25 cats per day. Cats MUST be in a trap and must be feral/community cats. Please see the registration dates below for enrollment. Kittens must be at least three pounds at the time of TNR. Thank you for making a difference in Stockton's community cats!

The Stockton Animal Shelter would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to our dedicated Animal Services Officers and our Stockton Police Department Detectives for their outstanding efforts in investigating a recent cruelty case. Thanks to their hard work and collaboration, an arrest has been made.

We also want to thank the community for their invaluable support and cooperation. Your vigilance and willingness to report concerns played a significant role in bringing this case to light and ensuring a safe outcome for the dog.

Together, we make our community a safer and more compassionate place. Thank you for your continued support and dedication to animal welfare!

SPD NEWS: Animal Cruelty Arrest

On June 28th, 2024, the Stockton Police Department was made aware of videos posted on social media depicting an adult male subject firing a BB gun in the direction of a caged dog. The incident reportedly took place in the 2600 block of Bristol Ave.

Officers initially responded to the location on June 28th but did not locate the dog and the residents advised that it had been given away. Officers returned on June 29th and, again, did not locate the dog in question. They did not discover any signs of animal cruelty on both occasions. Our Patrol Officers and Animal Services Section initiated an investigation and will continue to conduct follow-up on this case.

This remains an ongoing investigation.

Arrest Update

Stockton PD detectives and Animal Services Officers have continued working on this case. The dog was located and appeared to have injuries consistent with being shot with a BB gun. A warrant was authored for 47-year-old Maurice Smith for animal cruelty. Today, Detectives located and arrested Smith and he was found to be in illegal possession of a firearm. He was subsequently booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on animal cruelty and firearm-related charges.
