***Poppy has a new home. Thanks for all the calls and shares ***
Ms. Poppy got stood up. After I agreed to hold her an extra 10 days while they took a vacation, then waited all day Friday for her scheduled pickup, with no response to messages, I was finally informed via message Friday night that a puppy just wasn't right for them at this time.

So. This darling, outgoing red girl is 9 weeks old today and looking for a responsible, active home who will appreciate her great temperament, good breeding as well as deposit already paid. ;-).

Contact me privately please. [email protected], 715-558-3261.

Only 2 left, blue and gray collar boys. Ready this weekend

8 weeks old and alike as 3 peas in a pod. These boys are going to be just about as dark of fox red as their daddy Rueben, MH. They have his nice bone (look at those feet!) and structure along with great outgoing temperaments. They are great hunting and family companion prospects or if hunt tests or shed hunting are your game, they'll be great fit for that too. First vaccines, microchipped, AKC registration, vet-checked. Left to right are Gray, Blue and Black collars. Contact me directly via PM or call/text 715-558-3261. Both parents OFA hips/elbows/eyes and genetically tested.

The 4 red boys currently available and ready to go home this week/weekend. Blue, Green, Black and Gray collars. All are doing to be darker red in shade as they develop their adult coats. Not a shy one in the bunch, outgoing and friendly, exposed to all kinds of daily stimulation and activities. Raised in my home, both sire and dam on site. OFA hips/elbows/eyes, genetic screening. AKC registration, vet certificate, first shots and microchipped. We don't often have this many puppies available, just a happenstance of timing and people's schedules needing to change. They are having a grand time playing and exploring and would be great additions active family companion/hun-ters. Contact me directly for $$ details. Just turned 3, black female, chocolate factored, OFA hips/elbows and genetically clear of the usual "Lab" stuff, EIC, CNM, PRA, etc. Well bred and very high drive. I got Pinkie back in March when I thought my keeper Ransom girl from my own breeding was not going to pass OFA, but that turned out to be poor positioning on the films and when I had her redone in May, she came back good. Pinkie is not my type of dog physically. She is smaller, probably 45 lbs, and not the "look" I want to add in to my dogs though I wanted the pedigree very much. Her gorgeous sire FC AFC Percy is related to my super talented and beloved Handsome Ransom, Percy's dam being out of the same breeding that produced Ransom. Her dam, HRCH Loosey, is from the talented breeding of NAFC FC Tubb x the renowned Jaws. I have to take future breeding into consideration, what I want to produce and I make tough calls sometimes regardless of how nice a dog may be in most ways. Pinkie is very nice dog, has a solid basic foundation though she is rusty from not a lot of work the last year. I can tell just from what time we've had to train together that she wants to work ( I didn't pick her up until early May), has good skills as far as "tech water" being cheaty, ins and outs and is good at the line, quiet and calm. Not quite steady but won't take much to enforce that to a higher standard, along with getting her marking back up to par, she has the skills. I've worked her to some HT stuff like decoys and duck calls at the gun. She is clean inside and seems to be okay with my other dogs though she can posture a bit nothing appears aggressive. She loads and rides fine and is friendly and affectionate. No health issues to my knowledge.

I managed to get one video of her doing some marks (half thawed hen pheasants) in our field on a non rain day, there haven't been many of those this summer. https://youtu.be/_hyPb4ePzvU

She will not go to a strictly pet home, she is too good to just sit on a couch full time, she needs to have activity to use her brain and desire on a regular basis, she needs to hunt at bare minimum, not fair to her otherwise. She LOVES water. She is FF and CC, training was more or less done to FTP when she was younger and she does have an AKC Trick Dog title as well. Contact me directly for info, she is not a giveaway. [email protected], message me here or call/text 715-558-3261.

15 month old chocolate male available. Kevlar was purchased in Feb and has 3+ months professional training. He is genetically clear of EIC, CNM etc via sire and dam and PRA gene test clear. No OFA yet, I can have done if that's desired. He will be updated on vaccinations and heartworm test before leaving, he is due in July. Full AKC registration. He's about 65 to 70 lbs, lean muscle and well built. Nice head and good coat. He was raised indoors and is clean in crate and kennel. He is very high drive and i would consider him a dog that needs an experienced trainer to get him to the point of being able to run field events or be steady for waterfowl. He is a good marker. He is through basic FF and CC. He does not have everything I'd hoped for to continue here as part of my Labradors. That does not mean he has health or temperament issues or won't make a great hunter or field prospect, just that he isn't my type of dog and i had hoped he was further along in training as well. Contact me privately with questions please. 715 558 3261, email [email protected]. https://www.huntinglabpedigree.com/pedigree.asp?id=171362

I took the 3 winter pups to training grounds yesterday. The Ransom girls were born in December while Bridget, a Rueben daughter from an outside breeding, arrived here in December. So they haven't actually been swimming or retrieving in real water yet. They had no issues other than once started, they did not want to stop. Harper, the black one, has been lackadaisical on retrieving on land while Ridley has been very consistent. Harper decided water is IT. Bridget is very large, in both body and enthusiasm, with not much control of either yet. She and her dad Rueben spent "water intro" time leaping high and diving under and playing hippo with each other. I got wetter than any of them and had a soggy drive home. No worries with water with winter pups when they are bred for it regardless. Their drive supercedes all.

No, we haven't fallen off the face of the earth here at Rainmaker. We've been on break from litters, took a short vacation (first in 4 years), but mostly, it's spring finally and we are busy with yard and garden prep, shaking off the winter weight in the field with the dogs. But the nursery will be full again soon as we have some puppies due next week with Rueben and Zelda, as well as some coming hopefully in July with Rueben and Rouge. So Happy Mother's Day, Happy Spring and happy puppies on the way!!!

Okay, it's only fair to tell a nice story about poor Mike. He spent a hard morning breaking in keeper puppy Elka. ;-) This afternoon while on my 2 mile walk, it started raining but nothing too heavy. My phone started ringing, which I ignored, but my stupid smartwatch that rarely works when I actually want to answer a call, answered for me. I could hear Mike yelling my name so i yelled back as my arm bounced up and down with Haley on lead, hoping he'd hear without me stopping to converse. He asked if I wanted to be picked up since it was raining. No, we're good, thank you for thinking of us. Then the rain got harder and thunder started booming and Haley and I kicked into high gear before I regretted declining his offer. Because odds are, the watch would not call him if I actually asked it to anyway.

I may start a weekly segment titled "Stupid Things Mike Says" or, "My Husband has a Death Wish".

I've been low carbing it for a while but being the dutiful spouse, I continue to make him his potatoes/rice/pasta sides along with a main course modified for me. I admit to doing this with less than good grace because being the one in charge of what's for dinner and prepping it every day year after year after year (32 of them this month) is already annoying. So, he in his usual obliviousness walks by his plate of yet unheated potatoes, sticks a finger in and says to make sure his potatoes are "good and hot" and continues on with his cocktail to sit and sip while I continue to bang pots and pans in the kitchen and throw death glares that bounce off Mr. Oblivious.

Last night I was making a salad and cooking chicken breast to top it, he went on a rave about how much he loves it, I said it's a very simple meal, how about you learn to make it if you love it so much? He rolled his eyes. I said, with a wife's duty to bring up every promise ever made by one's husband, that when you retired you would learn to cook so I could go train dogs all day and come home to a meal. YOUR words. He sighed and said, well, when I am done with all of the yard work, then I'll learn to cook. I said, you're 74, you will never stop making more lawn, cutting down trees, cutting up trees, making big piles, burning big piles, etc etc etc until you can't walk and then your excuse will be that you can't walk anymore, how can you cook. He shrugged. Works for him.

Yesterday he finally got his current pet project burn pile burned, this morning at 6 a.m. he's questioning cutting down the old crabtree in front of the house to make more room for garden and do I think he should pull the stump too. I hadn't had enough coffee yet but was able to mutter something about I better not come home from running errands to find a decorative crabtree cut down and you pulling the stump along with the main electrical wire that is buried between that tree and the house and knocking out the power. "Well, it's just a suggestion!" He was actually surprised and a little hurt by my response.

We haven't even made it to the end of the week yet.
