Agility skills
EASY AND CALL TO HEEL:
In this exercise you will sit the dog at least two body lengths away. Stand at the center of the bar on the opposite site of the dog. Give your release word and immediately move your hand towards the dog and say “easy “. Give the cookie and then immediately bring hand over the bar for them to follow over the jump and have them turn 90 degrees to heel position between you and the standard and reward again . If you are bringing the dog to left side , you are using your left hand and your left leg is back so as they come to heel , you are moving the left leg and left hand for them to come to heel. Repeat on the right side. If the bar comes down just don’t reward , then repeat so they can be right and get the reward .
Start low and work towards your regular height. Young dogs keep low or puppies can just have standards .
Improving the bascule . Young dogs dont jump over elbow height .
Here are some videos of exercises you can practice with one jump at home. Young dogs and mature .
EXERCISE ONE : improving their bascule .
Sit the dog a body’s length away from the jump. Stand on the other side , same distance , with cookie or toy on your feet. Recall the dog , once they jump and get the reward release . We are looking for the dog to jump with a nice arch over the jump , achieving this by them looking down for the reward as they jump . If the bar comes down , no reward . Young dogs , height should be low and just focused on teaching the skill not the height .
