Love this picture of my redhead, Arvak, the reason I’m here teaching humans and horses. He’s a gem. We love him and he has the safest place in the world with us. ❤️

My student took the photo. She is Ms. Pre-teen California and heading to nationals next week!!!!! Eeeeee! Wish her luck! 😍😘 We love you Sam.

They are!

I think the reason is because when they meet me, I set very fair but firm boundaries. And they never wavier. It’s consistent. I’m understanding and compassionate when they CAN’T do something, but I also hold my ground and say “you will” when they WON’T do something. And again, I am consistent in my boundaries, in my emotions, in my body language, and my genuine want to help them. I meet them where they are at and I stay with them until we can find a way to feel safe and calm and get through whatever they need to in that moment and I genuinely freaking care so much about every one of them.

Horses can feel it because I can feel them. In return I meet very few horses who see me and want to leave. Even if I joke that “the mean lady is coming”.

This is why everyone begs me to take their horse. If I could give every one of them the time they needed I would have so many horses, but I’m only one person and I already have my herd….

The injured chubby princess thought being injured was alfalfun and games (get it🤪 ) until I came home with the Bermuda Hay. 😂 Trying to keep her from moving around much and figured a slow feed hay net might keep her in one spot. I think she might also be the first horse to need an e-collar. She keeps trying to grab her stitches and is licking them. The fly sheet seems to be working. 👏🏻 Still not sure how, when to where she did this, but I’d guess it had something to do with all that flirting and fighting she’s been doing with her new neighbor. I can also envision her billy-goating around where she shouldn’t and falling, we will probably never know.

Koda got to see Dr. Darrow today. He had an adjustment, float and his vaccines. One step closer to being ready for his forever.

Koda says “who was difficult to catch? Me? Nope wasn’t me. You must be confused.” ❤️😂

Koda began training this week with Amber at Wild Horse Diaries and The Wild Hope

We had a new sponsor notice Koda at our ranch and reached out to sponsor part of his first month's training. Thank you to Shiela F. of BVS for sponsoring $300 of his $500 monthly board and train. But we need to keep raising funds to keep his education covered!

Koda was taken in as a very thin owner surrender. We don't want to speculate as to the reasoning behind his very thin body condition because that part of his life is gone! Due to his history, he is very standoffish and has some food aggression/resource guarding tendencies.

Koda is a 14 year old pinto, maybe quarter horse/Arab cross! He's a great height at 14.3-15h or so and is really cute!

Can we get a sponsor for the rest of his first month's training or even his subsequent months? All donations are tax deductible and you would make a huge difference in the life of this beautiful horse. We would provide picture and video updates for monthly training sponsors so you can see his progress. 🥰

Maya and Dusty helped us get Maevyn out for a little longer ride, with some cantering mixed in. She did great cantering behind, in front and side by side with a new horse. Didn’t mind being in the lead, him trotting past, pushing her from behind or leaving her in the dust. 😂 She’s really just being calm about it all. I’m very pleased with her progress. 👏🏻 Thanks Maya for a fun evening!

The Chubby Princess had her first solo trail ride today around the sod farms. It was hard for her to leave. I just let her take her time, while keeping her pointed on our path. So at the start, there was lots of stopping and looking back to the herd. But once she got started she did great. She saw a lot of farm activity. They were mowing, cutting, seeding watering and moving pallets. She did start to feel overwhelmed when we got through the last obstacle of walking through the sprinkler. I did get off there and walk through it with her. She just didn’t believe me that it was not, in fact, horse melting acid water. 😜 We also got in a nice trot and she stayed relaxed and in tune even with the extra speed. Hopefully we can keep these nice positive little adventures going.

Omg! Trying to teach Maevyn to drive and she has a knack for getting her tail over those reins. Started feeling very intentional on her part, because we’d have to stop so I could fix it. Instead of me driving her she was driving me… CRAZY! 😂

Darlene came to see the horses recently. Some of you may remember her from our Craft Fair/ Demos where she worked with Miguel. Anyway, Travis said he had some pain in his shoulder and she helped him work through some of it. After she left I caught Travis working on the new stretches she taught him, all on his own. He has done this multiple times since she left and always looks so relaxed when he does. 😍 We love !

Yesterday was a beautiful day. We had a fun little clinic and wine ride to with ETI. So nice to see everyone and their horses. Baby Maevyn helped me teach a clinic for the first time and had her first trail ride with a group. Miguel honestly is always so grumpy at the end of these, but when the trailers started pulling in he walked to the gate and starred at me like “um, excuse me, but I believe this is my job.” 😆 Today we get the ranch ready for our craft fair next weekend. Don’t miss it. Shopping, food, horse demos and petting zoo.

Happy 4th Birthday Maevyn! Today we had a nice session in the big arena, followed by one in the grass (learning she doesn’t get to eat just because there is green stuff) followed by one treat and a discussion about why she can’t have more. (It’s cause she’s fat. Yes I’m fat shaming my horse.)

Poor horses. They want to know why they can’t be out eating the grass. I reminded this little trio that last time I let them out to graze, they wouldn’t let me put them away later. 😂
