This 🧇 is to benefit Ashley Vigil & Crazy V's Poultry & More! Ashley is the mom of 4, has a backyard farm, works, & also finds time to help me when she can! I want to help her now! After rebuilding from a tornado this spring & winterizing her coops, she was hit by the wicked winds we had here a few days ago… She was ready to quit, I think we have all been there! That’s when I made the decision to do this 🧇 to benefit her, give her hope, & help her rebuild again!

UPDATE: I HAVE 2 of the 3!!! WOOHOO!!!

This is our guy Levi. You may remember that Levi was our little neighborhood rascal that we vetted and patched up earlier this year. He never left. 😜

Levi and I want to ask you to join us in praying for a miracle. You see Levi is the baby daddy to 3 kids that are about a year old down at the end of our street. These pups are feral and in very bad condition. They are dirty, matted and one is so thin that his hip bones are protruding and all of his ribs are visible. I’m afraid that he won’t make it if we have another extremely cold winter.

It’s my intent to trap, vet, spay and neuter these kiddos and find them homes. It’s going to be a huge undertaking considering that we already struggle with our own expenses but I know God can make this seemingly huge task happen.

Take a moment on Levi’s behalf please. 🙏

Appreciation post to this lady here. Let me tell yall a little bit about my friend Jennifer... she has the most beautiful heart. She takes in birds that others would not give a chance, and would likely just cull them. The ones with cross beaks, neurological issues, deformities, the sickly, and any other health issue you could think of. She loves them and cares for them for hours on end daily, takes them to the vet, makes them special food, makes sure they are have coops they can get in and out of... the whole 9 yards. These birds give her joy and a sense of purpose in life. How on earth this could be considered a public nuisance is beyond me. But lately her neighbor has been reporting her for noise complaints- roosters.. she doesn't live in town, but it is a "residential area". Anyways, not here to bash anyone, just wanted to show her some love and encouragement as she could really use it right now. Feel free to leave her some words of encouragement, prayers, or just show her some love 🫶 the world is a much better place with her and her big chicken loving heart ❤️ LOVE YOU JEN!!xo

Below I’m posting a good article to read.

Even if you think you’re a seasoned chicken keeper and don’t need this information it’s still a good read and you might know things I don’t.

First, lice and mites and a real threat to your chickens and no matter how clean you keep your coops your chickens can still have them!! Repeat your chickens can still get and have live or mites.

What does this mean?

Well this means that you need to be doing routine checks, and not only checks preventive care. Well what does that look like, which I do at least every three weeks which includes coop spraying and treating birds.

When I clean I have a gallon sprayer that I spray permethrin and I even have used elector psp. If you can’t afford that it’s okay that doesn’t make you a bad chicken keeper by any means. Go pick you up some permethrin from your local tsc, rural king, where ever may sell something like that. And you can dunk your birds and spray their coops and runs down with it. I also treat with ivermectin pour-on. With my larger birds I do 5-6 drops a drop under each wing one between the shoulders and two around the vent. Repeat at 10 days. Both of these otherwise your hard work is washed down the drains.

This is soooooo VERY important and you can try any of the homeopathic methods you’d like but once you have an infestation they won’t work. Not only that but lice and mites will kill your birds. They can also mimic upper respiratory with in your flock. So before you’re quick to assume your bird is sick do a very good inspection of the birds ears vent and under their wings.

If you check during the day and don’t see anything check at night with a flash light around the vent. There are 100’s of articles on this type of stuff only but sometimes it can be overwhelming. So I figured I’d add a good one here in case you’re struggling. We’ve all been there and still deal with these things even as breeders so remember you’re not alone as a first or long time chicken owner.
