Today's Breed & Discipline spotlight is on the Rocky Mountain Horse, presented at by the Rocky Mountain Horse Association.

Valued for a gentle temperament and a smooth-gaited ride, the Rocky Mountain Horse is a standout on the trail and in show rings around the world.

The foundation for this special breed was laid in the hills of Eastern Kentucky in the late 1800s. The horses were bred to be gentle, sure-footed, well-gaited, versatile, easy keepers, and hard-working members of the family. These same traits are valued by Rocky Mountain Horse owners today.

Rocky Mountain Horses may be anywhere from 14.2 to 16 hands in height. Chocolate with white manes and tails is a common color combination for the breed, although they may be any solid color with minimal amounts of face and lower leg white.

Our grandson, Aiden Kye St John is taking riding lessons with Taylor Blake - Gasser to become an accomplished rider. Loyd L StJohn and I are very pleased with his progress. Thank you Taylor Blake - Gasser for taking time to work with him ❤

I am so grateful to be back doing lessons!! I’ve been so grumpy being stuck inside after this surgery so I’m 🤩 ECSTATIC 🤩 to be back outside! No riding for me yet but it’s fun watching students learn and grow! Aiden is such a cool student! 😎 Morgan isn’t so sure about getting back to work 😅 Loyd L StJohn
