Animal Samaritans has started the long-awaited renovation of our Thousand Palms clinic. Animal Samaritans temporary location in Palm Desert is now open at 77-840 Flora Road in Palm Desert, offering veterinary services while the remodel is underway. Animal Samaritans Indio Clinic, on Jackson Street in Indio and Animal Samaritans No Kill Shelter on Ramon Road in Thousand Palms remain open and are operating under their normal business hours. Gelato made his TV debut on NBC Palm Springs this morning! Gelato is a smart and playful 10 week old chihuahua/terrier mix. He's a curious boy who's ready to discover the world with you! If you're interested in adopting Gelato he will be available at our 4th Annual "Dogust Birthday Bash" at the Rowan this Saturday, from 11am - 1pm. Pixel Made Her TV Debut on NBC Palm Springs! Pixel is an active, one year old little girl that absolutely loves to run and play. She also loves to be around people and to cuddle! 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐁𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐥𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐃𝐨𝐠 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬. Did you know, certain dog breeds are more susceptible to fatal heat stroke than others? 𝐀𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐕𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐜 𝐢𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐨 has seen a recent uptick in these breeds coming in dead on arrival from heat stroke and are 𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐞𝐭 𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 to take extra precautions for their "Flat-Faced" pets this summer. “Brachycephalic” or "Flat-Faced" refers to dogs with short muzzles, and this face shape is a huge disadvantage to dogs in the hotter months since their main mechanism for cooling down is panting. Boston Terriers, Pugs, French and English Bulldogs, Pekingese, and Shih Tzus are just a few of the many "flat-faced" breeds at risk. A few months ago, Bruce Hall reached out to Animal Samaritans to let us know they were planning their Family reunion to be held in Palm Springs this summer. Bruce explained that during each reunion children in the family come up with unique ways to raise funds for a nonprofit in the area hosting their reunion. Bruce and his husband Jeff Tade, had offered to host in Palm Springs while the family was together for the previous reunion in Texas. Tade family members arrived in Palm Springs last week to celebrate with their loved ones. The kids were excited to share the art they created in hopes of raising funds for homeless pets at Animal Samaritans No Kill Shelter. On Saturday, members of the Tade family delivered supplies AND $550.00 that the children raised through their Child Art Silent Auction to Animal Samaritans No Kill Shelter. While visiting the shelter they loved on the homeless pets and learned how the money they raised would be used to help the animals at the shelter. Now in it's 12th year, Animal Samaritans Summer Critter Camps have been something local children look forward to attending each summer. Organized by Animal Samaritans Humane Educator Diana Martinez, these popular camps teach children the importance of pet responsibility, being kind to animals, and each other. During Critter Camp attendees also learn about animal related careers with a focus on creating future Veterinarians. Campers enjoy hands on experience with a variety of animals and wildlife, and they get their creative juices flowing with lots of animal themed arts and crafts projects. Summer Critter Camp makes learning about our animal friends an exciting experience for our young campers. Upcoming camps are scheduled at the Desert Hot Springs Recreation Center and the Family Resource Centers in Desert Hot Springs and Mecca. Ever since he arrived at Animal Samaritans no kill shelter as a stray, Little Bubba quickly stole the hearts of our staff and volunteers. Now, Lil' Bub is ready to steal YOUR heart! This cute Chug (Pug/Chi mix) is still a puppy, so please be patient as he learns his manners and tricks. He loves to cuddle and receive affection. He also enjoys playtime and gets along well with most other dogs. He even travels well in his crate! Animal Samaritans sends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Jaden Ramos.
