Fire update:
Vinur Farm is safe for now. So are our horses in various places and so are we. Thank you for all your messages and everyone reaching out and offering help. Not much has changed since yesterday as the wind calmed down, evacuation orders are the same, we are at Level 2. A wind shift tomorrow might make things more concerning again, we will wait and see.
The smoke is bad.
There were/are several spot fires around horse camp and many of our favorite trails are threatened or burned already.
We are very grateful for all the professionals and volunteers who are working endless hours and for our little community up here working together and supporting each other. Fingers crossed.

Here is the latest official info as of this morning if interested:

We had a great time this last weekend at our first camp for the year here at Vinur Farm. We spent our mornings with lessons in the arena and the afternoons with all kinds of fun activities. From trick training to trail riding to an afternoon of hiking and crafting to a grand finale with drill team and beer tölt we showed yet again how versatile our horses are and that learning and practicing doesn’t mean there can’t be any fun 😊 In fact the more fun the better the learning 😃 In case you want to join us for some of the summer fun the July camp is sold out, but there are still spots open in our dressage clinic July 13/14 and our trail and obstacle clinic August 10/11! Get in touch here or find more info at www.vinurfarm.com

Due to cancellations there are spots open in our dressage clinic this year! July 13/14, let me know if you have any questions 😊 please share!
Do you ever wonder why trainers and instructors keep going on and on about the Training Scale, arena patterns, exercises, lateral work, transitions, balance, and say things like “between the aids”…? Why does all this matter so much for our horse’s longevity and performance?
Do you want to understand what certain exercises and patterns help with, why and how they work, and how you choose which ones to work on with your horse?
Do you sometimes struggle with what to work on in your arena sessions? Would you like to have better communication with your horse to have a safer trail ride? Do you need help with the quality of your horse’s gaits and it’s suppleness, gaited or not?
In this clinic we will combine theory sessions, private and group lessons to explore the system behind “dressage”, find out where you are at with your horse, and give you ideas on how to develop your personal training plan.

This is the 1st level of a three level clinic system. Level 2 (and maybe 3) will be offered in 2025. Take level 1 now to move up the levels in the following years!

All breeds, disciplines, and levels are welcome. Auditors are welcome for a fee, contact me.

Don’t have your own horse, and would love to participate? School horses are available for a fee, contact me before signing up.

The clinic cost includes the paddock for your horse, bring your own hay.

Meals for the weekend will be available for a fee.

Cost for this clinic is $400, due by June 13, 2024

A deposit of $100 is due when signing up to secure your spot. Deposits are non-refundable.

As we are heading into summer I have decided to put together a summer series of 10 awareness through movement lessons to teach on Zoom starting June 10 and June 13. The times are the usual, Mondays at 7pm and Thursdays at 9:30am pacific. Due to camps in June and July the Thursday group will have 7 lessons instead of 10 with no lesson on June 20, July 4, and July 25. Find the signup links on www.vinurfarm.com under Shop! Please contact me with any questions and I am looking forward to seeing you 😊 if the summer is a busy time for you and you are worried about missing some of the lessons, don’t worry. All lessons are recorded and the participants of the series will receive the recordings, so you will be able to do the lessons in your own time.

Proud moment realizing that I am not waiting to do this anymore but that I am in fact doing it! 80 recordings of ATM lessons taught online by me… this doesn’t count the ones taught in person, I kinda wish I had kept count now, I should be at 100 total pretty easy! I guess I am no longer a bloody beginner at this 😁 now I will have to figure out what to do with these. I am planning on starting an online library of some sorts to make them available to people! look!!! It’s happening 😃

Hello friends, we have the opportunity to host an Equine Scent Detecting Clinic at Vinur Farm this May! We were hoping for a date in the late summer, but May would be the only time available. Would you be interested in this unique experience with your horses?
Would you sign up for a 2 1/2 day clinic?
What questions do you have?
If May does not work for you, would you be interested in an event in 2025?

PLEASE COMMENT BELOW! We would love to offer this to you guys, so let’s get together and make it happen!

Air Scenting is a tool used a lot in Search and Rescue when searching for a missing person. The horse gets trained to follow an airborne scent and lead their rider to the missing person.

What a unique and totally out of the box learning experience for us and our horses 😃

01/24/2024

As I was driving home from Canada after my second to last segment of my Feldenkrais Practitioner Training I had a great conversation with my friend and fellow trainee Marcia. We were reflecting on the segment, all our learning, things that were hard, things that got easier, things that became more clear and all the new questions that emerged throughout the two weeks. It feels like the more we learn the more questions we have and the more we become aware of what we don't know. This work reminds me so much of the work with horses!
As we were sharing experiences and memories from our favorite ATMs (Awareness Through Movement Lessons) in this segment we ended up talking about how these lessons really can be great metaphors for life. We did one ATM that was all about finding weightlessness in our limbs. It is a beautiful movement exploration in side lying of lifting the head, the arm and the leg simultaneously and with ease. What seems heavy and impossible to do without strain in the beginning turns into a beautiful movement throughout the lesson and in the end the head, arm, and leg can indeed lift simultaneously with incredible ease and a sense of weightlessness. Now, how did we get there? Some of us might have fallen into the habit of working hard and trying to push through the resistance at first. Maybe we went to a place of "I am never going to get this, this is just too hard". Maybe we let the negative self talk take over for a while, eventually realizing that this - also - is a habit, and a hard one to change for sure. We are all human.
Ok, so how did we get there? First off all by letting go of the goal and by getting deeply involved in the process of exploration. By finding a place within ourselves where we were able to ask questions and let curiosity guide the way. By slowing down, paying attention to the smallest changes in our breathing, tightness in our jaws, gripping of our toes... All indicators of the beginning of straining. Do you know what is the very first thing you do when you begin to strain?
Slowing down and making smaller movements empowered us to make finer and finer distinctions. And therein lies the path to new possibilities. If we push, our nervous system will take the path well travelled. The path it knows well to get the job done. The path of habit. As our teacher kept reminding us: "Don't do anything you know"
When you push or you brace: Pause. Return. Find a different way. Notice what didn't work, without judgement. This was an important part of the lesson. Keep looking. You will find the path elsewhere. And the beautiful thing? It will be Your path only. Not two of us will find the same way. All our ways are unique and therefor fully and purely ours. There is no one correct way of moving and there is no one correct way of learning. There is, however, an endless realm of possibilities. The ticket to get in? Awareness and curiosity. Being able to pay attention, make distinctions. The ability to stay in the question even if the answer might not be easy to find right away. If you only go with what you know you will never learn anything new. Get comfortable with not knowing. Create an environment for yourself where you can say "I don't know. Yet. Let me explore and see what I can find." And then take action! Ask questions, explore, be ready to be surprised by what you will find.
So the next time you come across something heavy to deal with, whatever that may look like, maybe remember this post and take a moment for a little experiment. What happens within you when you think about that heavy thing? What happens to your breathing? Your sense of space? Where do you brace? Which habit emerges?
How can you Pause? Return? Find a different way? How can you spread your attention and begin to look for support in different places? Try different strategies, ask new questions? And approach heavy things with a sense of curiosity?
This does not mean the heavy thing won't be heavy anymore. It means you have the potential within you to change how you approach them and therefor find a different path for yourself. And the more you are able to stay within an easy range and explore how more and more of you can participate, the lighter things will become. I felt it.
Thank you for reading! I would love to hear your thoughts :-)
Freya
P.S.: I will be teaching another mini ATM series of 4 lessons starting next week. Classes will be Mondays at 7pm and Thursdays at 9:30am. Sign up here: https://vinurfarm.com/shop/ols/categories/feldenkrais?page=1&sortOption=ascend_by_name
After that I will head back to Canada for our very last segment of this training, can you believe it?
