Medical Cat Foster Priorities week of 9/15/24

Medical Foster Homes provide a safe place for pets to heal while marketing for adoption. Medical follow ups are provided by the PACC clinic. If you can help, please email [email protected].

C055 Meezer 847500 12yo: Meezers has a urinary tract infection and takes a twice daily antibiotic.

C101 Gamma and Beta 12w: Gamma and Beta came to us as strays with URI’s and, we discovered, ringworm. Gamma also needs a tail amputation. They are nervous but can be handled. Since they will have a long stay with us while the ringworm is being treated it would be awesome if they could be in a home that can work on socializing them. With some positive rewards and loving care, they likely can be adoptable kittens at the end of their ringworm treatment. Who wants to give these two a brighter vision for their future?

C037 Charlie 849269 7yo: Charlie was likely hit by a car that broke his pelvis and caused an abdominal hernia. He needs crate rest (no jumping, climbing,) his pain managed and monitoring for constipation.

C104 Sammy 848864 5yo: Sammy is a friendly guy with a kitty virus where he needs to be isolated from other cats. He is also waiting for a dental. He would love to get out of the shelter for a little break.

C103 Rupert Pinto 848418 2yo: Rupert Pinto is a community cat who had a forelimb amputation and is not eligible to return to where he came from outside. He shows social tendencies and needs a foster to remind him how to be a pet. He recently came down with a kitty virus and would need to be isolated from other cats.

C091 Ambrose 849009 3yo: Ambrose is a tubby dude who is taking oral, liquid steroids for a skin condition. Steroids compromise the immune system so he recently caught a cold. We would love for him to recuperate in a home away from shelter germs.

There are also cats in our ICU that might be ready to transition to foster.

Traditional Cat Foster Priorities week of 9/15/24

Traditional Foster Homes provide a safe place for pets to decompress and reinforce social behaviors while marketing for adoption. If you can help, go to the foster office to talk to a foster coordinator.

C054 Marcus 849346 8mo: Marcus came to us non-ambulatory, but has since bounced back to being a healthy cat. Now he needs a little help to learn that people don’t always bring medicine. Good marketing will help this young guy find his adoptive home.

C051 Hercules 8mo: Hercules came from a house of too many cats. He appears to be a scared little teenager and isn’t showing well at the shelter. He would benefit from some time to decompress in a home and socialization. Key will be adoption from home.

HS1 Myrtle 849570 3yo: (pictured) Myrtle is displeased with her accommodations with us. She needs a cat savvy foster who can let her decompress in her own room, understand her body language and market her for adoption from home.

MM Felix and Yogi: These 2 treat motivated gents need a foster committed to working on socialization and marketing from the home.
*Someone who can dedicate a few more minutes per day to them so that they can continue to blossom and shine in their environment
*A quiet room to ground themselves while they get settled in.
*After trust has been built, they would likely integrate fine with other cats (they had several different kitty roommates that they would pal around with during their time at shelter) or a calm dog

Safety Net Cat Foster Priorities week of 9/15/24

Safety Net is a temporary foster placement for owned pets whose people are facing hardships like hospital stays or housing insecurity. Our goal is to reunite pets with owners. If you can help, please email [email protected].

*This feline is 5Y, likes large dogs and kids, and is quite independent. Her owner says when she's in the mood she loves cuddling and petting. She is currently in a foster home that isn’t a good fit and needs to transfer.
*Six adult cats just arrived that will likely need placement in pairs

This weekend at PACC, whether you can adopt a dog for the rest of their lives or foster for a couple of weeks or even just a night, you can help us save lives πŸ’™

We have 522 dogs calling PACC home this morning, and we ✨need✨ our community's help to decrease that number ASAP. We simply can't do it without you!

Whether it's 8-year-old Eloise, 3-month-old Eminem, or any of their hundreds of friends, bringing a dog home today - whether forever or just temporarily - can change their lives AND create crucial kennel space for the next dog(s) in need. πŸ’™

All dogs and puppies are FREE to adopt, and all pets adopted from PACC are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines.

Also happening all thru September: FREE microchips! Bring your cat or dog into our Pet Support lobby today from 12 to 5 p.m. or Saturday/Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to get them microchipped, making it significantly more likely they'll get home - and not in the shelter - if they're lost! πŸ’™

PACC is open for adoption, foster, owner reclaim, and more from noon to 7 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

🚨 URGENT NEWS from PACC 🚨: We took in 88 dogs from a single home on Saturday evening, pushing the shelter to a record high capacity of 628 dogs.

PACC’s Animal Protection Services team received a call from the Tucson Police Department late on Saturday evening regarding a home that was being condemned. PACC officers found a large number of small terrier and Dachshund-type dogs at the property, including several litters of puppies. The majority of the dogs have been surrendered by the owner and will be available for adoption or foster from PACC once they have been medically and behaviorally evaluated, with some available as early as today.

PACC is in IMMEDIATE need of fosters and adopters for the dogs at PACC. With 628 dogs in our shelter, the need is now.

We have many adult dogs in need of foster/adoptive homes as well as several litters of moms and puppies who need foster homes. All dogs and puppies are currently FREE to adopt. If you can help, please come to PACC today. We are open from noon to 7 p.m.

Safety Net Cat Foster Priorities week of 8/11/24

Safety Net is a temporary foster placement for owned pets whose people are facing hardships like hospital stays or housing insecurity. Our goal is to reunite pets with owners. If you can help, please email [email protected].

A bonded pair; he's a neutered 2Y and she's a spayed 3Y. They are very sweet kitties who like older kids, small dogs and other cats, and apparently birds as well. You know, like Sylvester and Tweety - well, maybe not.

A neutered singleton rounds out our list. This handsome youngster is 1Y. His owner tells us he loves kids and is super affectionate once he gets through that initial "getting to know you" phase.

08/27/2024

532 dogs. We talk a lot about the numbers, but why does it matter?

Because right now, kennel space is so precious that every time a dog leaves for a new home, a call is immediately made on the radio for their kennel to be cleaned and filled with the next dog(s), who are already waiting in a temporary rolling kennel in our admissions lobby.

With nearly a hundred dogs past critical capacity, we simply do not have the kennel space for the ~45 dogs coming in daily - and as Pima County's only open-admission shelter, we must be able to take in dogs in need. Because of this, we currently have multiple dogs, dogs who are struggling the most in the kennel environment, at risk.

Our staff and volunteers are working tirelessly to get these dogs home, but what we need to make that happen is YOUR help - in fostering and adopting, yes, but also in helping happy, healthy pets find their way home BEFORE bringing them to the shelter.

We're open from 12 to 7 p.m. today. Please come to PACC if you can help.

Friends of PACC Community Pet Clinic COMING SOON! 🐾 πŸŽ‰

Have you heard?! Our nonprofit partner Friends of Pima Animal Care Center has officially announced the upcoming Friends of PACC Community Pet Clinic, opening in Pima County in the coming months!

PACC sees thousands of pets come into our shelter every year simply because their families can't afford veterinary care or because of accidental litters due to a lack of access to spay/neuter.

The Community Pet Clinic, located on N 1st Ave, will address these challenges by providing low cost spay/neuter services for vulnerable families, affordable care options for pets adopted directly from PACC, and care for pet families receiving assistance from Friends of PACC’s Keeping Families Together program. Additionally, financial assistance will be available to those who qualify. The clinic is anticipated to open in late 2024 or early 2025.

We can't overstate how excited we are about this incredible effort, which WILL save and improve the lives of pets and their people here in Pima County.

🐾 Meet our 2️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ Club - the four pups who have all spent more than 200 consecutive days in the shelter without a break in foster! 🐾

These guys would all LOVE a chance at a foster home - even two weeks would be literally life-changing for these pups! All four are friendly with people AND have even done well with other dogs - they just need a chance to show off how great they are in a home! πŸ’™

And of course, if you're ready to add a new member to your family, all dogs and puppies are currently F R E E to adopt at PACC and come spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccines. These pups, and nearly 500 of their pals, would LOVE to meet you today at PACC. πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™

Traditional Cat Foster Priorities week of 8/4/24

Traditional Foster Homes provide a safe place for pets to decompress and reinforce social behaviors while marketing for adoption. If you can help, go to the foster office to talk to a foster coordinator.

PT Colbey 837095 15yo: Colbey came from an impound of 8 cats. The others have all been adopted, but Colbey is still here because he pretends to be a cantankerous old man. We know he has it in him to be not-so-grumpy away from the shelter. He has been in the shelter since June 19th without a break.

Blue dot cats from Tiger Cove: These boys came from a house-of-too-many-cats and would benefit from some one-on-one interaction and marketing for adoption.

Medical Cat Foster Priorities week of 7/28/24

Medical Foster Homes provide a safe place for pets to heal while marketing for adoption. Medical follow ups are provided by the PACC clinic. If you can help, please email [email protected].

C040 Angel 841191 14yo: Angel was a euth request for chronic diarrhea. She needs a foster home that can monitor her poo and spoil the old lady rotten.

C023 Puuurl 845131 10yo: Puuurl is a precious ball of fluff weighing less than 5 pounds. She is not eating well at the shelter and needs a foster home that can monitor her intake.

C038 Zoey 846368 16yo: Zoey’s microchip is 16 years oldβ€”Zoey could be older. She is newly blind and starting a renal diet. She really needs out of the shelter. A small room where she could acclimate would be best.

C021 Jamie 846189 12yo: Jamie is waiting on a dental for his painful mouth. He would much rather wait and recover on your soft couch than his hard kennel.

C052 Boogie Woogie 846034 12yo: Boogie Woogie has the cutest crinkle ears that unfortunately cause chronic ear infections, but he loves a good ear scritch. Boog also just started a provided renal diet.

C058 Cookie 846333 15yo: Grandma cat Cookie is waiting on a dental for her painful mouth. She would much rather wait and recover on your soft couch than her hard kennel.

OFFICE Hercules 845582 12yo: Hercules was surrendered for euthanasia but PACC vets found he was just severely constipated. He eats a provided high fiber kibble and takes a laxative to keep things moving. He needs a foster who can monitor for poo.

C069 Gus Gus 845503 7y: Gus Gus came from an impound of about 40 cats. He had blood in his urine and must eat a urinary diet inclusively. He will need dental work eventually, but right now, his most important need is socialization. He is scared but tolerant in the shelter and needs positive reinforcement training to bring out his purrsonality.

C083 Miss Kitty 841675: Miss K came to us with a large wound on her abdomen. The wound healed and then she had problems with constipation. THEN she got ringworm. She needs a foster who can keep her isolated for ringworm and monitor her output closely.

C101 Fairy Godmother 845479 8yo: If Fairy Godmother had a wand, she’d whip herself up a home. She came to us with diarrhea that is responding well to a prescription diet and steroids. She is thin and crusty and could really use some TLC.

There are also cats in our ICU that might be ready to transition to foster.

Peek-a-boo! This is Boogie Woogie (A846034, 12 years old), and he's looking for a helping paw. πŸΎπŸ’™

When Boogie first arrived at PACC, it took him a bit to remember how good it felt to be scritched - but once he did, he loved having his unique ears rubbed. However, he's becoming increasingly stressed in the shelter environment and his health is suffering as a result. He really needs to find a foster home where he can decompress and get the TLC he needs. If you can help this special senior, please email [email protected] or come to PACC to meet him. πŸ’™

We know we say it all the time, but it's so important: The simple act of putting a collar and tag on your dog can make the difference between them making it home or ending up in the shelter. Pictured are just a few of the 100+ lost dogs who have come into PACC over the last few days without a collar and tag or a properly registered microchip. Had these pets had their ID, they would likely be home now. 🐾

Three ways to help:

πŸ’™ If you or someone you know has lost a pet, please remind them to upload their photo to lost.petcolove.org and to keep checking back at PACC! Reclaim fees are WAIVED in most instances; we WANT you to have your pet at home, not in the shelter! 🐢

πŸ’™ If you find a healthy, friendly stray pet, PLEASE attempt to reunite them with their owner. These dogs have a much higher chance of getting home, which is better for both them and the hundreds of dogs already in the overcrowded shelter, if kept in their neighborhood. Tools like lost.petcolove.org's image recognition technology, flyers, social media, and just walking the dog around the neighborhood CAN and DO get pets home!

πŸ’™ Put a collar and tag on your dog! Don't have one? ANYONE who needs one can get a FREE custom ID tag at PACC any time we're open, and our Central Pet store sells collars for less than $10. This simple step can quite literally save lives.

All animals pictured are on a stray wait. They MAY be available for reservation in the event their owner does not reclaim them. If interested in reserving, please come to PACC. We're open from noon to 7 p.m. today.

08/19/2024

If you're looking for a face to smoosh, a chunky potato to take up space on your couch, or simply a big ole' noggin to scritch, you're looking for Rudy. πŸ’™

Rudy is currently receiving treatment for heartworm disease and could use a couch to crash on. He needs a quiet, low-key foster home where he can relax while he's undergoing treatment. Luckily enough, Rudy don't seem to have any complaints about being a snugglebug OR a couch potato πŸ’™

If you can foster Rudy, please come to the shelter or email [email protected]! 🐾
