The Okaw Family Difference:
We treat our patients like family and family means everything. After surgeries, our patients are monitored by our sides. This means at our feet, in our arms, or us sitting on the floor with them. Sweet Oscie (pictured) has a support/comfort flower that she loves to carry around at home. She had it by her side as she woke up in our arms. We moved Oscie into a pouchy once she was fully awake so Debbie could use her arms, lol. Too precious!šŸ„°ā¤šŸ„°

Possible Nylabone alert?! We have had 3 cases of major teeth being irreparably broken/chipped/cracked in the last 2 months. These teeth had to be removed in EVERY patient. This is painful for your pup and costly for you. In each case, the owners could think of nothing other than the nylabones as the possible culprit! If you can't indent into the object with your thumb, do not give it to your furry friend. Throw away anything hard- they break teeth!

We have a new little friend in need of a home! This little one we are calling Miriam (because she is SO sweet and merry). She is all black w a couple small white patches on her neck/chest and is about 4 months old. She was brought to us yesterday by someone who found her outside of their home. Her tail was in need of medical attention. She has been a purr machine! She is truly a snuggle bug and has been playing and wanting us to snuggle all day! šŸ„° Dr. K hopes that she will be able to keep her tail, but more time is needed to know. Let us know if you are interested in fostering this sweetheart and finding her a forever home!

Santa's Reindeer had a visit from their Veterinarian and are cleared for Christmas Eve!

As Official Veterinarian of the North Pole, AVMA President Dr. Rena Carlson has performed this important annual examination with the aid of Ashli Selki, past-president of the National Association of Veterinary Technicians (NAVTA).

Our little one has a forever home!šŸ„° We are thrilled to announce that Heather's mom fell in love with her and has given her lots of attention, play time, and cuddles. Her name might become Molly Beth, but we aren't certain yet. Thank you to all for your support and donations!
Looking forward, if anyone out there is willing to foster the next little one to come through, please reach out to us. It would be amazing to have people at the ready for such an important part of the process. ā¤

Little Angel is back in our clinic, although she is now named Ellis. She is spunky and adorable! As you can see below, her eye has ruptured. (She is fine and this can happen often with the problem she had.) She is still too little for surgery at this time, but Dr K will handle everything when she is a bit bigger.
I now ask for assistance from our Okaw family. Please share this post and any others about Ellis to find her a good forever home. We are hoping to find a forever home that wants her asap. We will call this home her foster until surgery is done since Dr K will be handling this without payment (our Angel Fund will cover necessary costs - big thanks to all who donate).
Ellis is a wonderful little cutie who deserves the best! Please stop by to see her during business hours. We donā€™t want her being alone at the clinic in the evening/over night, but unfortunately donā€™t have other options right now. Letā€™s work together to get her give her the best life we can!

Thank you SO much for all who have donated to our Angel Fund! This is our current recipient of assistance because of YOU! This sweet baby girl was in pretty bad shape when she first saw us. Both eyes were horribly infected, she was sneezing and congested, and she was emaciated - could feel every vertebrae as you pet her back. Yet she purred the ENTIRE time she was here! Her current foster family is taking great care of her and giving her lots of meds and attention. A couple weeks later and her infection is doing much better (see pic). She will definitely lose one of her eyes, but, at this time, Dr. K is hoping she can keep the other one. Dr. K wants her to grow a bit more before doing the surgery to remove the bad eye. She is now playful and spunky, as well as super loving.
We are hoping to find her a foster home that will become her forever home once the surgery is over. We want her to get to know her forever family as soon as possible since we want to wait for a while before the surgery. Reach out if you are interested in this sweet little love. We will give updates (with pictures) in the coming days/weeks. ā¤

Emmettā€™s story: Emmett is a very healthy little boy we are happy to report! Dr. K was informed of a dying 6 week old stray kitten and she took Heather (and Heatherā€™s girls) to take a look at him and see if there was anything she could do. Unfortunately, that sweet baby moved on from this world 5 minutes after we arrived to look at him. He was held by Heatherā€™s daughter and told what a wonderful baby he was the whole time. We soon learned that there was another little boy in need of a home from the same litter. Heatherā€™s other daughter scooped him in her arms and has barely let him go since! He is now 13 weeks old, spunky, silly, and so much fun! Now their family is 100% complete! šŸ„°

So many have fallen in love with Castiel, our once frozen little kitten. He stole our hearts too! We are happy to report that Cas now has a baby brother to play with! His name is Emmett Wallace. Both these boys can usually be seen from our sidewalk on their window perch. Emmett is already an international traveler - has been to Canada to see Heatherā€™s family and did an amazing job traveling in the car with Cas (he stayed on the dashboard long enough for me to take the pic, lol).

It is going to be crazy hot this week! Please do NOT leave your pet in your car as you run errands! It is never a good idea and cracking the windows is not going to help. Make sure your furry friends don't overheat in the yard either. Lots of water and air conditioning for the whole family! Stay cool and safe!

We are sad to announce that SportsVet will no longer be available for urgent care situations. However, the University of Illinois is still available and has an Urgent Care AND an Emergency Department.

Due to a continued shortage of Veterinarians and support staff affecting vet clinics nationwide, all Urgent Care services will be discontinued after June 1st.

We are disappointed to see the end of this service, but we're excited to share the new things happening here at SportsVet!

Beginning June 4th, Dr. Sloter, the Veterinarian you've come to know and love through Urgent Care, will be seeing patients through General Practice. Sunday through Wednesday Dr. Sloter will see your pet by appointment.

While we no longer see walk-in appointments, same-day appointments can be made for sick pets if they are available with all 4 of our General Practice doctors.

We will now be able to provide appointments ranging from general wellness care and vaccines to sick pet appointments 7 days a week.

Our new Sunday hours are 9am to 5pm, call for your appointment today! (217) 355-1442
