The hoof is designed to be flexible, however, when hooves become dry that flexibility becomes limited. If a hoof can't flex it becomes brittle resulting in splitting. While the hoof can draw natural moisture naturally in the wet season sometimes the summer can leave their hooves dry and brittle.
