Odin had fun posing with all his ribbons from Do More With Your Dog!
He got his novice through expert title, and I plan to convert the expert to TKP in the AKC! We are now working on his RN title and his Stunt dog titles! So so proud of this boy!

Was walking with Odin and we ran into this guy. Big thank you to Jiffy L**e for letting us train and desensitize around him. Odin was unsure at first but by the end he was confidently walking past it!

Happy birthday to my big man today! He turned 2 and honestly I can’t be more grateful to have him in my life, he has saved my life so many times in the few short months we have been paired. I hope to have many more years with Odin by my side! Love you odin!

Odin and I went on a 2.82 mile hike today! He went for a dip in the stream and had an absolute blast! It is safe to say he is tired out now for sure

Odin does all his tricks and things he knows! While we may be under self isolation and unable to go to She's a Keeper Dog Training & Consulting, Odin and I try our best to constantly keep training. I compiled a video of all the things he knows so far! He had such a great start as a puppy and with the help of his trainer at She's a Keeper he has advanced so much! I am so proud of how far he has gotten in just the few short months he has been home!

24/03/2020

Odin has been working hard on his retrieval’s during this self isolation period! He is working up to bigger and bigger objects! Because the AKC will be allowing trick dog titles to be given remotely, we also will be applying for the TKA soon! Hoping to get to work on his TKP this week!

Odin leading me to class today! This was our last class before spring break, and who knows when we will be back after due to COVID-19. Even when I’m stressed out this man continues to task beautifully!

12/03/2020

Odin practiced his tracking today to find class! We have spring break coming up so it will be a bootcamp for him. Also due to COVID-19 we are unsure when we will return, so I will have to work with Odin to keep him sharp!

Had such a fun day yesterday at the New England dog expo! Got a ton of free stuff, and Odin was amazing. Odin alerted to an oncoming episode from across the room which was fantastic. So proud of him! He also got to meet a bunch of dogs and got to have some silly time with me!

Back to labs we go! Odin wears his rexspecs goggles and booties for protection in class! If we work with any chemicals (which won’t happen this semester) he would have to wear his lab coat. Being a hard worker as always!

18/02/2020

Odin and his friends worked on some confidence training today! Wobble boards and cushions! Odin was able to help teach Charlie and Colby how to stay in a place, and he was able to place two paws on the cushion and two on the board! Very proud of this boy.

****BIG ANNOUNCEMENT****

May I present GLDNMEADOWS GOD OF WISDOM AND GOLD CGC CGCU TKN

Today Odin took and passed the CGCU and the Trick Dog Novice(TKN)! I am so so proud of him! He did absolutely amazing even with at the stress I was admitting from being so nervous to take the test. Once again he has blown me away! After the test was done he also alerted to a high heart rate! He did incredible throughout the entire meetup with all of his friends at the Museum of Science, and I am so thankful to have him. Getting these first two titles are a huge step in our training, and he is the first dog I have ever titled!! Super big thank you to my amazing trainer at She's a Keeper Dog Training & Consulting, and to Golden Meadows Retrievers for pairing me with my amazing boy.

Yesterday truly tested Odin to the limits! Not only did he make some fish friends, but he also had to deal with both my self and another handler having panic attacks while we had access problems at a hospital. Thankfully he was there to calm me down, and he did amazing waiting 6 hours for my friend to get discharged! School has also started up again and he tried to guide me back to the class I was in, so he will have to learn how to get to the new rooms. He alerted in class to scratching several times thanks to the amazing work put into him while I was gone!

So proud of Odin today! We went to a movie theatre with one of his best friends Roxie, and I took off his harness so he could lay down and be comfortable. Roxie wanted to snuggle up to him, so I told Odin to “Leave It”. His biggest hurdle is dog distraction, and a month ago he would have been all over her trying to sniff her and play when his vest was off but last night he just let her snuggle up and only gave one sniff before being told to leave it! So so proud of him!

Odin and I love going to local SD meetups! Odin did some training around statues, specifically animal statues, and helped his fav Golden Jasper work on his nerves around them! He even rode in a glass elevator for the first time, it threw him off at first but by the end he was a pro!

I haven’t been able to go to the dentist in two years because of how terrified I am of the sounds. With Odin doing DPT (along with a new med!) I was able to get through it! When I say this dog has changed my life I can’t emphasize it enough.

“I can’t leave Buddy at home! He will miss me!”

Odin missed an alert today.

“My dog deserves to go out grocery shopping with me like yours”

Odin missed an alert today.

“Oh he is so cute! Let me take a picture!”

Odin missed an alert today.

“I have the right to pet your dog. If you bring him in public you should EXPECT everyone to pet him”

Odin missed an alert today.

“I need my dog for emotional support!”

Odin missed an alert today.

The danger of taking an untrained pet into public effects everyone. Dogs that are service dogs have no reason to be in non pet friendly areas. If your dog attacks my service dog, that could put him out of work for the rest of his life. My service dog is my lifeline, he alerts to episodes before they happen and give me time to sit down and get to safety before I am unable to do so. When an untrained dog comes into public and distracts my service dog, he could miss an alert. Which he did.

I do not blame Odin for missing the alert. We were walking with friends trying to get a few things when out of nowhere a reactive dog came from around the corner. Odin was amazing after the incident, but he missed that vital alert. My service dog is my lifeline, so the next time you want to take fido into Walmart, think about those who are just trying to live their lives.

Retrieval training! Odin just started this a month ago. I stopped working on it because I wanted to work with his trainer, and today he started picking up my pill bottle when I dropped it! I was super shocked but also very impressed with how quickly this guy can catch on to what I ask him to do so quickly!

I’m in nursing school, and on a standardized test yesterday a question came up that said, “A patient comes into an outpatient clinic with their service dog. How do you approach the situation to make both the patient and the dog feel comfortable?” the correct answer, of course, being: Ask for permission from the patient to interact with their service dog.
I was so glad to see a question like this included among the many questions about signs, symptoms, medications etc that patients have! It’s important education!
So happy to have been paired with this amazing dog! He is my rock and has been doing amazing in his training!
