Worked all day fixing up our "free" chicken coup. We have had it about 7 years and it has worked very well. Just need to replace the roof and some boards on the bottom. Re-painted (still a bit to do)...then it will be time for decorations.

The girls seem to be happy about the "new" place!

Stanley was a huge help today as well 🤣

Wow what a difference one week can have .New quail hatched in October. The one on the left is a week old and the chick on the right is two weeks. They can start laying eggs as early as 6 weeks of age. We will have a few breeder sets available at 4-5 weeks of age(1roo and 5 hens) . These guys are Egyptian in color .

Wonderful weekend at QUAIL CON 2022. We took Katie, and I would say she had a good time. It was great catching up with friends, and making new ones. Even the 50 year rain didn't keep us away. Thank you to everyone that had any part of this amazing even. See ya next year!

Come out to the Wyandot County Farmers' Market today 9 'till Noon. We have moved down the way a bit because of softball games. There are lots of venders here to shop. It will be a few weeks before we are back, so make sure to stock up on eggs and seasoning rubs today!

My daughter sent me a picture of her beautiful egg, and the bloom on it the other day. I will say I was a bit jealous. Then today what do you know I found a equally beautiful egg.

What is egg bloom? It is the last thing that happened to am egg before it is laid. It is a protective coating to prevent bacteria from getting inside the egg. That is why you can leave unwashed eggs on the counter (or in the fridge for longer) but once they are washed must be in the refrigerator.

Exciting things happening around here! Happy to say we will be kicking off the summer at the Wyandot County Farmers' Market this Saturday! There have been a whole lot of hoops to get through, but we did it! Come out and see us this Saturday morning 9-noon!!!

Spring is in the air. Babies everywhere. 3 Mama silver fox rabbits due in the next couple days. They got their nesting box today, and Sarah was having a good ol time.
Over 100 new baby quail hatched and about that many more to come in the next few days.

Question what makes a person a farmer? Is it when they get Muck boots? Cause I think it is when you get muck boots.

One step closer to getting food in the ground. Got the woven w**d fabric down today. Next up get the peas in. Once mother nature decides it is no longer winter, we can get our drip irrigation laid out.
If you have never used woven w**d fabric or drip irrigation, I highly recommend it. It has saved us so much work in the hot summer. We have been uesing the w**d fabric for about 3 years and this will be our second year with the drip irrigation. No more w**ds, and no more sprinklers!

It is that time! Getting the garden ready for planting. We also cleaned out the rabbit area. I just want to give you a bit on info on rabbit manure.
* it is a cold manure. Unlike other types you can put it directly on your garden without composting
* it improves soil structure, drainage, and moisture retention
* it is pack with nutrients. It has a N-P-K value of N-2.4, P-1.4, K-.60 (N = nitrogen P = phosphorus K= potassium.
* you can add it directly to the hole when planting. Great for tomatoes.
* you can make a "tea" out of it 1 part rabbit manure 5 parts water. Wait 4-5 days, pour on plants. You can dilute to 50% and use on plant starts/seedlings.
