Hello Van Meter!
Due to work on the power lines we unfortunately have a scheduled power outage tomorrow. We will have no power in the clinic, so will not be able to answer phones. It will also be more difficult to fill prescriptions and take payments. The outage should be from 9am-1pm. We should have access to emails during that time. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.

***ROAD CLOSURE***

Beginning on Friday, June 21st at 7:00 am, F90 (Raccoon River Drive) will be closed east of R22 (Ute Avenue) for a paving project managed by the City of West Des Moines. The road will reopen on Friday, August 30th at 5:00 pm depending on weather and other possible delays.

Sorry for the sad news, but Claire lost her battle with kidney disease yesterday. She was lethargic, not eating, and was very unsteady; it was time. Our sweet little funny faced girl had been treated for hyperthyroidism for multiple years. Within the past year, she was getting near daily subcutaneous fluids and other treatments. Although she tolerated them well, she was ready to dart away when done, but she’d soon return for snuggles, to lay in a lap or to find a sliver of sunshine peeking through a door or window. She will be missed.

We are all saddened with the passing of Dr. Chelsea Iennarella-Servantez on Sunday. She was a bright spot in our clinic on Thursdays. She was passionate and in depth with each patient she had the pleasure to meet. She was pursuing a PhD at ISU College of Veterinary Medicine, having earned her veterinary degree in 2023. Her focus of study was related to diet induced inflammation. Hold on to those you love.

May is flea and tick awareness month. The little pests have already been active for a while after the winter, so if you haven't done so already, it's time to start protecting your pets.
Not only are fleas and ticks annoying and very hard to get rid off, but they can spread all kinds of (serious) diseases by feeding on your pets. Humans can contract some of these diseases, like Lyme disease, tick bites!

With the holiday coming up this weekend please remember that Lilies are extremely toxic to cats! The pollen, leaves, stems, and even the water the lilies were kept in are toxic. They can cause kidney failure that can be fatal if not treated in time. Keep your kitties safe this holiday, and keep them away from these beautiful plants!

We are very happy to announce that Flynn found a home this weekend! He has a new home with a good client of ours, and Flynn now has lots of dog siblings and even a new cat sibling to play with. As you can see he is fitting in perfectly with his new furry family members.
