Meet Erica! She is one of the Licensed Veterinary Technicians in our Oncology department, with a decade of Oncology-specific experience. She has also undergone extensive training and certification in animal hospice and palliative care and pain management through IAAHPC (The International Association for Animal Hospice and Palliative Care), which requires over 140 hours of hospice specific education and training. She holds additional certifications from CAETA (The Companion Animal Euthanasia Training Academy) Master Training Program in euthanasia best practices and end of life care, and is a Certified End of Life Pet Doula. She is also Fear Free Certified (Level III) and a Certified Compassion Fatigue Professional.
Erica's passion is ensuring that hospice patients and their families are well supported, have a compassionate advocate for their pets, and know that they have someone there to listen and help them navigate the complexities and difficulties that the end of life can bring. Her goal is to ensure that patients at the end of their lives have as much support, dignity and care as possible. She performs official hospice consults at Harmony Animal Hospital in Alexandria, VA where she is the Hospice and Palliative Care Nursing Coordinator, but offers her guidance and support to our Hope Center Oncology patients as well, when requested.
In her free time, Erica enjoys travelling, gardening, reading and spending time with her family and two dogs, River and Fern.
