NEW ARRIVAL
Budgies Yerb and Stan are brother and sister. They are about 4 years old and have always been housed together. They are a little skittish around hands, but do like to come out of the cage for some flight and play time. They came to the shelter seeking a new home when their owner could not take them with her when she moved to college.

If you are interested in meeting or adopting Yerb and Stan, or any of our other birds, please submit an application. It can be downloaded here: https://bit.ly/2GJgdZS (Application needs to be printed out, it is not fill-in). Appointments to visit the shelter are made after we have received your completed application. Questions? Send us a FB message.

NEW ARRIVAL
Meet Bob! Bob was found last month in a backyard. The finder searched for several weeks and could not find an owner, so he was surrendered to the shelter. We continued to look for an owner while Bob was in new bird quarantine. No owner has been found, so Bob had his vet check and is now available for adoption and looking for a new home.

If you are interested in meeting or adopting Bob, or any of our other birds, please submit an application. It can be downloaded here: https://bit.ly/2GJgdZS (Application needs to be printed out, it is not fill-in). Appointments to visit the shelter are made after we have received your completed application. Questions? Send us a FB message.

NEW ARRIVAL
Mango is a 6-year-old Black-Capped Caique. He is a fun, playful little guy and is already a hit with our volunteers. Mango had become stressed due to changes in his previous home and began picking at his feathers. We think they will probably grow back once he has settled into a new home. He has cleared quarantine and is available for adoption.

If you are interested in meeting or adopting Mango, or any of our other birds, please submit an application. It can be downloaded here: https://bit.ly/2GJgdZS (Application needs to be printed out, it is not fill-in). Appointments to visit the shelter are made after we have received your completed application. Questions? Send us a FB message.

NEW ARRIVAL
Needles is an 11-year-old turquoise green cheek conure. She recently cleared quarantine and is available for adoption. She will step up and likes head scratches, but has been cautious with us since arriving at the shelter. Per her former owner, she gives kisses, says 'Hi Needles' and 'Bye Needles', asks 'What you're doin', and says she's a 'good girl'.

If you are interested in meeting or adopting Needles, or any of our other birds, please submit an application. It can be downloaded here: https://bit.ly/2GJgdZS (Application needs to be printed out, it is not fill-in). DON'T BE A BIRD-NAPPER!
It's that time of year again... when nestlings begin to fledge from their nests and well-meaning humans unnecessarily "rescue" them.

Usually, these young birds do not need help. A fully-feathered fledgling should be left in the wild. The parents are likely nearby, but are waiting for you to leave. Hide and watch for a few minutes and see if they appear.

TOOTSIE - QUAKER PARROT

Tootsie is a female Quaker, about 19 years old. She is a good eater and likes pellets, seeds, and fresh foods. She came to us looking for a new home when her owner could no longer care for her. Like most quakers, she can be a bit cage territorial, but when out of the cage is more interactive.

If you are interested in meeting or adopting Tootsie, or any of our other birds, please submit an application. It can be downloaded here: https://bit.ly/2GJgdZS (Application needs to be printed out, it is not fill-in). Appointments to visit the shelter are made after we have received your completed application. Questions? Send us a FB message.

Sara Baily, a 45-year-old Orange Wing Amazon, has moved to her new home. Sara is a real sweetie. She has arthritis and takes medication, but that doesn't slow her down. She steps up and loves to be held. Here she is with her new mommy getting ready to leave the shelter.

ADOPTED!
Bandit is an 8-year-old male cockatiel. He came to us when his owner had to move and could not take him with. He was adopted shortly after leaving quarantine. Here he is in his carrier on his way to his new home.

They’re famous for being loud, striking, and playful. But the 7 Cockatoos stuffed into mineral water bottles discovered in a passenger ship in an Indonesian port, were anything but that: https://tinyurl.com/5n72ycbb

Six survived the attempt to smuggle them from Papua to Makassar when they were found by authorities in Ambon, part way through the journey spanning several thousand kilometres.

One of the ships passengers has been detained. The birds had been stuffed into the bottles and packed in two cardboard boxes. The surviving birds are at a rescue centre.

The demand for these birds in the illegal pet trade often results in them being smuggled in this way. Kudos to port authorities and enforcement agencies on the bust.

ADOPTED!
Buddy was adopted a couple of weeks ago and is already making himself at home on his new mommy's shoulder. Buddy is an older White-eyed Conure who had been grieving the loss of his cage mate, and until recently did not want much interaction. We are thrilled to see Buddy happy and active again.

Mr T!
Some of you will remember Mr T, aka Trouble, the double yellow head amazon from the hoarding situation a year and a half ago. At the time of the rescue, we weren't sure he would survive after being without food or water for several days. Thanks to our vet and his foster home, he is doing well. He has now starting climbing, is much more active, and is ready for a larger cage. Without the generous donations of our followers to help with his medical bills, we would not have been able to save him.

Here is Mr T a few minutes after we found him. He was barely breathing and was being kept warm by one of our volunteers prior to being transported to our vet: https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=3310598039152803&set=pcb.3310598085819465

Medical bills are one of our largest expenses. All our birds, large and small, received medical care when necessary. Our vet visits the shelter once a month.

IT'S DAY 3 OF GIVING DUPAGE
Polly offered to provide some entertainment and gives us a little dance.

A little bit about Polly. Her full name is Polly Anne. She is about 32 years old and is a Blue & Gold Macaw. She’ll say “hi!” “What ya doin?” and “Polly’s a good girl”. She loves almonds, grapes, apples and string beans.

Polly belonged to an older couple, but was mostly the husband's bird. She has not been around children. She seems to prefer men. After her owner passed away, she was brought to the shelter. She was very shy and not very active. We could tell she was grieving the loss of her home and her owner. It took over a year for her to adjust and begin to interact with our volunteers. She is now coming out of her cage, talks, and dances.

Polly is available for adoption. If you are interested in meeting her, submit an application. Appointments are made after receipt and preliminary review. Download the application here: https://bit.ly/2GJgdZS

It's Day 3 of Giving DuPage Days

Thank you to those that have already donated through our Giving DuPage Page. While cash donations are needed to help pay medical bills and overhead, we are also grateful for those who donate supplies, such as paper towels, gloves, trash bags, toilet paper, and food. Also perches and large toys. We also need fresh fruits and veggies, which we serve daily.

Did you know we have an Amazon Wish List? Donations can be purchased directly through Amazon, or you can use the list for suggestions on what we need.

IT'S DAY 2 OF GIVING DUPAGE
Berry offered to provide the entertainment and sing opera for us.

A little bit about Berry. Her full name is Strawberry. She is a Greenwing Macaw around 25 years old. She keeps us on our toes here at the shelter, and always surprises us with something new. She’ll bark, oink, and quack, and occasionally call “Ma!” She'll ask for "water, water, water," but what she really wants is a bath. She’ll also say “come here” and ask you for a “cracker”, which actually means nut. And she’ll tell you she’s a “pretty bird”, as if we couldn’t tell! Berry’s primary owner was a male, so she seems to have a slight preference for men, although she does well with females, too.

Berry is available for adoption. If you are interested in meeting her, submit an application. Appointments are made after receipt and preliminary review. Download the application here: https://bit.ly/2GJgdZS
