Check out this fun video of our shelter dogs enjoying Medi-Crunch Treat Pouches that look like tiny ice cream cones being served by Animal Care and Enrichment Coordinator Shonee Turner! These tasty treats make medication time a fun and exciting experience for our furry friends at Blue Mountain Humane Society.
Our dedicated veterinary and animal care teams works tirelessly to provide the best possible care for our shelter animals, from post-operative medications to managing existing health issues like anxiety, skin problems, heart murmurs, and intestinal parasites. Pill pockets play a crucial role in helping us administer medications in a stress-free and enjoyable way.
While pill pouches are a fantastic option, we also want to share a budget-friendly alternative that works just as well: Velveeta cheese blocks! Our team uses small pieces of Velveeta cheese to hide medications, and our animals love it just as much as the treat pouches.
We use a variety of tasty treats to encourage our animals to take their medications, including wet food, Velveeta cheese, and all types of pill pockets. For particularly picky eaters, we sometimes have to get creative with peanut butter, canned chicken, or tuna. By making medication time something to look forward to, we can improve the health and well-being of our shelter animals while providing them with a fun and enriching experience.
Your donation of pill pockets or Velveeta cheese blocks will directly support our efforts to give our animals the best quality of life possible. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a difference in the lives of the animals we serve.

McKenzie Huxoll-Hegel sent us this wonderful update! Thank you to McKenzie and her family for giving Dalli such a good life!
"Dalli, formerly known as Penelope, has fit right into our family. ❤️ She’s become fast friends with our youngest daughter. They are 2 peas in a pod! I guess that’s bound to happen when you are only 3 months apart in age 😂. We wanted to show you the sweetest photos and give such a heartfelt thank you for all you do for these animals!"

Check out this adorable video of Wyatt and Hei Hei playing together through the catio! It's heartwarming to see them getting along so well. 😍 Plus, we've got footage of Wyatt enjoying playgroup fun!
Meet Wyatt: A special boy here at Blue Mountain Humane Society, Wyatt can be a bit timid at first but warms up quickly with patience and respect. He's a sweet, fun-loving guy who adores squeaky toys and his cozy blanket. If you're looking for a loyal companion, Wyatt might be the one for you!
And say hello to Hei Hei: This sweet boy sports a unique haircut, thanks to a shave to remove some pesky mats. He's incredibly friendly and would love nothing more than a sunny spot to lounge in his forever home. If you're interested in adopting Hei Hei, fill out an application online and come say hi!
Playgroups offer valuable opportunities for dogs to socialize and thrive, as beautifully captured in this video by volunteer Joe K. The video features Winston and Valerie during the first half, both of whom are now part of the WSP program, followed by Zeus and Mars in the latter half. Watching them, it's clear they're all having a blast!
We will be presenting at 100 Women Who Care - Walla Walla Valley tonight at Foundry Vineyards, and our sweet and adoptable Bella is going with us. She is getting all glammed up with a bath and even picked out her own bandana to wear tonight. She will be the Bella of the Ball!
We are so excited to be part of the 100 Women Who Care event tonight. It is an honor to be one of three local nonprofits in the running for this generous $10,000 grant.
Thank you to AudioCoffee on Pixabay for the video soundtrack.
Sonny and Reyna are having a great time in play groups today! Come and meet them. Furever Home Friday is going until 3 pm.
Play groups are a great way for us to socialize and enrich our dogs! It's particularly rewarding when we find two dogs that are as well matched as Zeus and Mars (the two dogs in the last half of this video). And we love seeing Mia, the tan dog, come out of her shell in the first half of the video. If you are interested in adopting any of these dogs, please visit our website.

Playtime at BMHS
Our amazing volunteer Joe captured a fantastic video of our dogs enjoying their play group session with staff members Shonee Turner and Danae Myers! Play groups are essential for dogs, providing them with social interaction, exercise, and mental stimulation. These activities are crucial for maintaining their well-being and happiness, reducing stress, and improving their overall behavior. It's a joy to watch them play and bond, highlighting the importance of playtime in their daily routine. While some pets may love the snow, they still need special care in the cold weather. Here are some tips to keep them safe:
Provide adequate shelter: Ensure that your pets have a warm and dry shelter to retreat to during cold weather. This could be a cozy indoor space or insulated outdoor shelter.
Dress them appropriately: Consider using pet clothing or sweaters to help keep your pets warm, especially if they have short fur. Make sure the clothing fits comfortably and doesn't restrict movement.
Limit outdoor exposure: Minimize the time your pets spend outdoors in extremely cold weather. Shorten walks and playtime to prevent them from being exposed to harsh conditions for too long.
Watch for signs of discomfort: Pay attention to your pets' behavior in cold weather. If they show signs of shivering, lethargy, or discomfort, bring them indoors immediately and consult with a veterinarian if needed.
Protect paws: Cold pavement and ice can be tough on your pet's paws. Consider using pet-safe ice melt on walkways and protect their paws with booties to prevent frostbite or irritation.
