Meet Slater, a charming 2-year-old mixed breed dog who is currently stealing hearts in his loving foster home. Clare, Slater's dedicated foster parent, has been caring for this sweet boy for almost a month and has already seen incredible progress in his demeanor and comfort level.

Clare shares, "Slater is the sweetest, silliest boy and so easy to love! He's gotten a little more comfortable and less anxious. He can eat without me being right there now! He's not a big barker, loves his walks, and flops right over for tummy scritches."

Slater is making his foster family proud with each passing day. He's wonderful with other dogs, adores cats, and loves making new friends with everyone he meets - especially children!

Clare continues, "I am so proud of him. He pulls so much less now when we walk, and he's so good with other dogs. He wants to be friends with absolutely everyone. Please share if you or anyone in the Walla Walla area are interested in adopting him! I can only keep him until early August."

Slater's incredible progress is a testament to the love, patience, and dedication of foster parents like Clare. Fosters play a crucial role in helping shelter animals adjust to life in a home setting, providing valuable insights into their personalities and needs. We are incredibly grateful for the tireless efforts of fosters like Clare, who open their hearts and homes to animals in need.

If you or someone you know is interested in adopting this incredible dog, please visit the Blue Mountain Humane Society website or contact us directly to learn more about the adoption process. Let's work together to find Slater the loving forever home he deserves!

Meet Mars, an 80-pound bundle of love and energy looking for his forever home! This smart and playful 3-year-old Boxer mix recently completed basic training through the WSP Dog Training Program and is ready to be your loyal companion.

Mars is a big, goofy pup who loves playing outside and getting pets from his favorite humans. His boundless affection can be a bit overwhelming at times, but with patience and guidance, Mars will blossom into the best friend you've always wanted.

While Mars enjoys the company of other dogs, the BMHS staff recommends bringing your current canine companion for a meet-and-greet to ensure they hit it off. As Mars continues to learn proper doggy manners, he'll need an understanding family who can provide him with the love and structure he needs to thrive.

If you think Mars might be the perfect addition to your home, head over to the Blue Mountain Humane Society website to fill out an adoption application. Then, come on down to the shelter and say hello to this brindle-coated charmer in person. Your new best friend can't wait to meet you!

Yesterday was a perfect morning for a Pawsitive Adventure downtown! Our amazing volunteers had a wonderful time with our furry friends, exploring the heart of the city and soaking up the sunshine. Karen had Alice in the stroller, Bonnie walked Rex on a leash, and Machelle carried our new cuddly boy in a backpack. (He and his sister are adoptable but not named yet.)

The group walked to the courthouse, enjoyed the vibrant Heritage Square, and basked in the plaza’s sunshine while indulging in some Starbucks treats.

If you would like to meet one of these cute dogs, come visit us! We open at noon today.

Our Pawsitive Adventures program provides our shelter animals with valuable socialization and exercise, helping them become more adoptable. If you're interested in joining us or learning more about these adoptable pets, visit our website or contact us today!

We will be closed tomorrow, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth, a federal holiday. Thank you for your understanding.

Our Pawsitive Adventures volunteers recently had an outing, demonstrating the invaluable role these activities play in the well-being of our animals. These outings provide our dogs with opportunities for socialization, physical exercise, and mental stimulation, all of which are crucial for their overall happiness and adjustment.

The volunteers shared their experiences, highlighting moments of joy and connection. Luca loved the Splash Pad, showing his playful side and love for water. Brutus enjoyed exploring the Whitman Campus with Nancy Nestler, and their adventure ended with a delightful treat from Coffee Cravings. Onyx, our relaxed cuddle bug, made new friends with a Whitman employee while enjoying the company of Bonnie Terrio, Karen Maxwell, and Machelle Colligan.

These adventures not only enhance the dogs' lives but also increase their chances of finding forever homes by showcasing their unique personalities and behaviors in various settings. We are grateful to our volunteers for their dedication and for making these enriching experiences possible.

Meet Nike, Batman, and Robyn - three adorable cats eagerly awaiting their forever homes at the Walla Walla Petco through Blue Mountain Humane Society. Nike (male), a handsome and friendly 1-year-old black shorthair, may be shy at first but warms up quickly. Batman (tuxedo, male) and Robyn (tabby, female), a bonded pair of 5-year-old medium-sized cats, are initially cautious with new people but thrive on gentle greetings, toys, and treats. Batman and Robyn would do best in homes without small children. If you're ready to give them the loving home they deserve, visit them at Petco today. Your new best friend is waiting for you!

Lola is currently in foster care with four cats and is proving to be fantastic with them. She is unbothered and purely happy to be in a home environment.

"She’s honestly been such a sweetie pie and an easygoing girl. I basically take her on two long walks a day, and for the rest of the time, she just snuggles up on the couch. I just know she’d make someone an amazing companion," says her foster, Sydney.

Lola has been great at crate training, listens to commands very well (especially "no" and "drop it"), and has been amazingly affectionate and loving. She's been great with the cats, maintaining personal space boundaries when needed, and her potty training is going well. She recently had outings to Petsmart and Home Depot and was very well-behaved. Lola is doing amazing in foster care and will make a wonderful companion for someone special.

If you are interested in adopting Lola, please fill out an application on our website:

UPDATE: Sweety has been found!

Sweety went missing in the late evening of 6/11 on Summer's Circle in Walla Walla, close to Stateline Road. Sweety is a very loving boy, but did enjoy the game of "chase" when his fosters were trying to get him. So please do not approach, as he will love running away. Please just report sightings so we can place traps in the appropriate locations. Call us at 509-525-2452

Meet Gizmo, our longest-stay dog, who's been with us for over 285 days. Currently in foster care with Taylar, Gizmo is thriving and ready to find his forever home.

Taylar shares, "Gizmo is doing AMAZING! He's been a great buddy, laying next to me (and sometimes on me) while I work on my computer. He loves physical contact and has been very respectful of the house. We spend a lot of time watching the world go by from the living room window. We went for a walk at Fort Walla Walla and passed several dogs easily. Afterward, we stopped for a pup cup, and now he's settled on the couch next to me while I work."

Gizmo is a snuggler and a great companion. Taylar adds, "I have been sick the last few days, and Gizmo just snuggles up with me on the couch. It breaks my heart to bring him back, but I know realistically I can’t keep him. I hope he finds his forever home soon!"

If you're looking for a loyal and affectionate companion, Gizmo is your guy. Submit an adoption application online and meet this wonderful dog!

Check out this fun video of our shelter dogs enjoying Medi-Crunch Treat Pouches that look like tiny ice cream cones being served by Animal Care and Enrichment Coordinator Shonee Turner! These tasty treats make medication time a fun and exciting experience for our furry friends at Blue Mountain Humane Society.

Our dedicated veterinary and animal care teams works tirelessly to provide the best possible care for our shelter animals, from post-operative medications to managing existing health issues like anxiety, skin problems, heart murmurs, and intestinal parasites. Pill pockets play a crucial role in helping us administer medications in a stress-free and enjoyable way.

While pill pouches are a fantastic option, we also want to share a budget-friendly alternative that works just as well: Velveeta cheese blocks! Our team uses small pieces of Velveeta cheese to hide medications, and our animals love it just as much as the treat pouches.

We use a variety of tasty treats to encourage our animals to take their medications, including wet food, Velveeta cheese, and all types of pill pockets. For particularly picky eaters, we sometimes have to get creative with peanut butter, canned chicken, or tuna. By making medication time something to look forward to, we can improve the health and well-being of our shelter animals while providing them with a fun and enriching experience.

Your donation of pill pockets or Velveeta cheese blocks will directly support our efforts to give our animals the best quality of life possible. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a difference in the lives of the animals we serve.

We are grateful for all the hard work of our volunteers and staff for putting this fundraiser on to help us help animals like Mochi find their forever homes.

Our amazing Pawsitive Adventures volunteers were out in full force on Monday, giving some of our shelter dogs much-needed outings and enrichment!

Nancy took Oswald to explore the Whitman College campus where he got to sniff new smells and stretch his legs. Karen brought Loaf to the airport for a nice long walk. Bonnie and Machelle introduced Gizmo, our longest stay dog, to the Mill Creek trail and Walla Walla Community College campus. He even learned how to climb stairs for the first time - what a quick learner! Candi took Ronnie on an adventure and Jane oriented a new PA volunteer.

Machelle said, “Gizmo was a good boy on our walk - respectful of cyclists and ignored the deer. We finished his adventure with a pupcup from Starbucks.”

These field trip outings are so important for the mental well-being of shelter dogs. The one-on-one attention and socialization during these outings also helps the dogs gain confidence and learn how to bond with humans. This improves their chances of being adopted.

We are so grateful to our dedicated Pawsitive Adventures volunteers for providing this crucial enrichment to our dogs. Seeing how relaxed and happy the dogs are on these outings, like Loaf joyfully digging in gopher holes, reinforces how meaningful this program is. Thank you for giving your time to brighten the lives of these deserving dogs as they wait for their forever homes. Your efforts are making a real difference!

Gus came to us in very bad shape. This little senior dog had a severe skin infection that was covered in maggots. It's been a difficult path to recovery, but after amazing care from our clinic, staff, and now a foster, Gus is almost ready to be up for adoption. Gus certainly would not have pulled through without intervention. We are able to do this because of your support. Please stop by our event this weekend and help us help more animals in need.

Join us for Plants for Paws, our Annual Plant Sale, on June 8 and 9. Support the Blue Mountain Humane Society by enhancing your home with beautiful, locally grown houseplants. The sale will take place at Land Title Plaza, 1st & Main, Walla Walla. The event hours are Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Our dedicated volunteers have been hard at work cultivating a diverse selection of plants for this special event.

Meet Jay Jay, a shy and sweet 10-year-old cat who recently joined our shelter family. Despite being a senior and having only one eye, Jay Jay is a handsome fellow with a heart of gold.

Thanks to the dedication and love from our staff and volunteers who work with Jay Jay every day, he is making great progress in adjusting to his new living situation. Volunteer Donna captured this heartwarming photo of Jay Jay, showing his gentle spirit and resilience.

At Blue Mountain Humane Society, we currently have more than 15 cats in our care, many of whom are seniors like Jay Jay. These older cats may have experienced hardships in their lives, but they still have so much love to give. They deserve a chance to spend their golden years in a loving forever home.

If you have room in your heart and home for a special cat like Jay Jay, please consider adopting from our shelter.

Who qualifies?

By law, in Washington state, we can ONLY provide veterinary services to animals owned by households that meet low-income qualifications. This means:

A single person, family, or group of unrelated persons living together with an adjusted income less than 80% of the median family income, adjusted for household size. We have an easy chart to help you figure this out:

Foster Julie Bryant shared some wonderful updates on her foster kittens! The tiniest of the Mountain babies, Mt. Constance, just hit 1lb—woohoo! 🎉

These adorable kittens come from a mama cat that was heroically rescued by volunteers Linda and Taylar after years of trying to help her through our TNR program. Julie has lovingly named all six kittens after mountains:

Mt. Constance
Mt. Ellinor
Mt. Baker
Mt. Rainier
Mt. Ruby
Mt. Saint Helens

They are now 6 weeks old and thriving in their foster home. A big thank you to Julie for giving these little ones such a great start in life!

They will eventually be up for adoption! Keep checking our website to see when they list.
