It feels like fall is right around the corner, which means goat breeding season! The boys are starting to gain their stink again 🤣

We want to highlight our boys of the herd.

First up is Goats@Grace Hill M Biff Tannen, known as Scout here on the farm. He is our youngest buck, a recent new edition, and we are excited to see him grow. He has some great lines behind him, and his Dam is incredible. He's a friendly little guy, and we are happy to have him here.

Next week, the girls and I will be bringing a few goats to a show, including our other buck, Dakota.

And Ezra released her hostage 🤣 We were so hoping for a heifer this time, but Ezra is consistent with providing us with bull calves. This little guy is a High/Dex Jersey cross.

On the positive side, Carmen wants him as her 4h project, and I'm back to fresh milk and butter 😋

The kids are so involved in the inner workings of raising livestock, it's amazing to see.

But we also wanted to highlight our first litter of Netherland Dwarf rabbits. These babies are almost 2 weeks old, and their mom is doing a GREAT job at being a mother.

Another great day of showing at our fair!
Carmen's meat pen took Grand Champion! Her Holland Lop took 2nd in Jr. Buck.
Rosalie's Mini Rex took Reserve Best of Breed, her Holland Lop does took 2nd and 4th.
Wyatt's Netherland Dwarf Buck took Reserve Best of Breed.

The kids had a great time showing and learning where they need to improve upon with their rabbits.

Broken black and black otter. We also have an all black buck, but he was a bit uncooperative for pictures this time. The mini rex rabbits are our daughter's 4h projects, and she is very excited to show this year!

I'm just over here minding my business putting grain away, and the chickens are ALWAYS waiting outside the door. They have all this freedom and time to dig for bugs, and all they care about is the possibility of getting scraps 🤣

Babies available in June/July!
These amazing boys are registerable with ADGA, Nigerian Dwarfs out of our *B buck Eagle Meadows Troubadour. The first and second bucklings (brown/white, buckskin with minimal white) are from Whimsy Woods Northern Lights. The third and 4th bucklings are from MAH Farm SJ Betsy Ross.

All are growing well, born April 14th, disbudded and will be UTD on their CDT vaccinations and Coccidia prevention. They can also be wethered before going to their new homes, but will stay until early July if that's chosen. The kids have been handling and leash training these boys, so all will have a good foundation for being friendly.

PM if interested in these boys.

*We will have 2 doelings available as well, and pictures will be posted soon*

Highlight of our lovely Aurora! This special lady cleans up well for the show ring but carries a bit of a spicy/energetic personality. She was bred to our *B buck Ryder for April kids. Her first freshener udder is setting up to be something to watch, and we can't wait to see what Miss Aurora produces this year, both in milk and her kids.
Kids from Aurora will be available for sale come summer.
*Herd is clean tested yearly*

Another goat kidding yesterday evening led to this cute little doeling from Leyla! She is an almost exact copy of her dam, adorable and feisty. This little doeling will be a keeper ❤️ Now we have a small break before 2 more First Fresheners are due in April.

A little over 1 week ago, we also had a litter of Mini Rex and Californians. They are all doing well. Both moms are doing their jobs.

This year, the trailer will be full headed to the fair 🤣

Our first doe to kid was Tess! In true fashion of every animal, she had them when no one was home 🤣
She had 1 buckling and 3 doelings. Unfortunately, the 1 buckling was stillborn. We are grateful for the 3 babies that are thriving and nursing!

Once these babies get their legs under them, we will get better pictures and post who will be looking for a new home!

4H prep starts earlier than summertime around here. Our rabbits are another project our kids have. 3 days ago, we had a litter of Mini Rex kits and a litter of Californian's. 1st time rabbit mothers, usually, don't get it right the first time around. We bred 2 rabbits at the same time so that if one mom wasn't taking care of her babies, then they could be grafted onto the better mom. So far, everyone is doing well and we can't wait to see how these babies grow!

Highlighting Miss Betsy Ross!
Another first freshener we have here on the farm is the comical Betsy. Her personality is far from her her mother's, but like Tess, she knows when it's show time! Betsy was bred for March/April kids by our *B buck Ryder and is growing a beautiful FF udder. We look forward to seeing these kids hit the ground and how Betsy will do in the show ring this year.

*Kids will be posted when available. Herd is clean tested yearly, and results are available to view."

February has gone, and March is here! We will highlight our Nigerian Dwarfs who are due to kid this month.

First would be Leyla, who is bred to our *B buck Ryder. Leyla already has a very promising FF udder, so we are excited to see her kids. Kids will come from great milk lines.

Next is our matriarch doe Tess. She's considered the best Showmanship goat on the farm as her temperment in the ring is unmatched. This will be her 4th kidding, and man, can she put milk in the bucket. Tess tends to always throw quads and is bred to our new *B (pending, still, with ADGA 😒) named Dakota. This pairing will be full of color, possible blue eyes, and great milk lines behind them.

Kids that will be available will be posted. Our herd is handled daily by our 2 legged Kids, tested annually for disease (negative results available), and eligible for registration through adga.

It's a brand new year, which always means new and exciting things!

Most of our hens are considered "geriatric " at age 7 and up, so it was time to bring some younger girls into the flock. Our old girls have earned their retirement, and they will continue to enjoy digging through the property looking for bugs. And if they feel like giving us an egg every once in a while, we appreciate it. Now we have 14 new girls to pick up the egg laying tasks. Right now, they get to quarantine in the barn for a couple of weeks before meeting the old ladies.

Next is Ezra, our dear faithful milk cow who is also getting old in the cow world. We had trouble with attempting to breed her, and she had 3 years of just being a cow and auntie cow to other calves. She had a date to be processed because with animals they always have a purpose, but after breeding for the 3rd time this past mother's day, running with a bull for a while, 2 negative at home tests, she came up with a positive pregnancy test sent to the lab. We are glad to have triple confirmed prior to the 29th and are excited that we will have our old, faithful milk cow still in the herd.

Which brings us to what was the next future milk cow, a Belfair heifer (Dexter/Jersey cross) that joined the herd. We haven't really narrowed down the best name for her yet, but she joined us just a couple of days before Christmas!

February will mark the start of goat kidding season and potentially a new calf. Plans for our CSA shares are under way, and before we know it, spring will be upon us! For now, though, we are pushing through the artic blast of weather, caring for all of our animals with warm water, food, and a cozy place to sleep.

Merry Christmas to all our customers and their families. We hope you enjoy the day together celebrating! ...

It's been quiet lately, at least in the animal department 🤣 But in just a couple of months, we will start kidding season. So far, we have 4 goats due between the end of February through April!
*We will have kids available*

There also is a litter of Mini Rex that will be due around New Years. Depending on how many, some will also be available (full pedigree)

Stay tuned for pictures!

Just in time for spooky season, it was time to pull blood on our goats for annual disease testing and pregnancy checks for cows. We pride ourselves in keeping a clean and healthy herd here, so this is required.

Luckily, being a Vet Tech, this is a simple but time-consuming job. The human kids were involved, so they were able to observe and hopefully learn how to draw blood from animals. Now that it's fall, we are actively breeding all our does for winter/spring kidding!

We will have kids available in the spring, so keep an eye out!

2023 Fair!

This past week was a long week of showing for the kids at the Blue Valley Farm Show. The girls were very successful with their animals and already have plans for next year!

Our Nigerian Dwarfs did well in the ring with one of the ladies, Melody, taking Best Udder, Reserve Senior Champion, and Reserve Grand Champion.

In the Rabbit classes, our Holland Lops won 1st/2nd junior doe, 4th for senior doe. The mini rex took 1st junior doe, 1st and 3rd for the senior bucks with 1 buck taking best of breed!

Carmen won 1st in Rabbit and Goat showmanship with a 4th in Poultry showmanship. Rosalie won 1st in poultry showmanship and 2nd in Rabbit showmanship. We are all around, so proud of our girls this year ❤️ There's nothing like seeing your kids so proud of their hard work and helping to show others their love of animals.

Now starts fall breeding plans for the goats, cows, and rabbits!
