Wow what a spring we’ve had here! Catching up on what all our amazing clients have done over the last couple of months …
I’ll start with congratulating the one and only Petey and Becky Mann!! This team has been on fire 🔥🔥
Starting at the Barrels 4 Badges show, they ran the fastest pole time of the entire weekend and won open barrels in the same day! 🦄👑 Running their first 19 second pole run and winning the open barrels by a couple of tenths with over 400 horses 🤯
The next weekend at the Stacked Spring Fling they again ran the fastest time of the day on Sunday winning the Open and also knocked a barrel on Saturday and loped out with a time on the board that was flirting with the arena record 🤩🤩
The next weekend the pair clocked in the 1D of a salty slot race at the Cash Grab too!
What a month!!
Petey stayed with us earlier this year to get his jumpstart on the season and continues to haul in weekly to maintain his fitness and soundness!

We are so grateful to be a part of the Manns regular maintenance program on their horses and can’t wait to see what else they accomplish this year!

Are you breeding your mare this year?
Do you have a standout athletic mare who you want flush embryos from? Do you want to keep her fit and maybe even gain a competitive edge? Do you want her ready to hit the road when she’s finished? Do you want to know the care your mare is getting and trust she is being spoiled just as she should be during the entire process?

Then we can help! We team up with Dr Barbara Schmidt for the breeding process who is less than a mile from our facility and use either Hagyard or Rood and Riddle (two of the best hospitals in the world) for the embryo flush or aspirations. We are under an hour from each of these and provide transportation.

Your mare will stay our facility throughout the process and continue to work on the aquatic treadmill which is low impact work in cool water that does not elevate the body temperature or create stress, perfect for the short time they are “in foal”. If you’re looking to do the ICSI route, either of those clinics can aspirate as well and ship to any lab you prefer.

Are you breeding the old fashioned way and need someone to manage and coordinate this? We also offer this service, we will house your mare and coordinate all appointments, shipping, checks, meds etc to make sure this process is stress free for you! Your mare can enjoy daily turnout and ultimate full care while she is settled for the season. We have many years of experience with breeding mares and communicating with stallion stations. Let us take this off your plate!

Happy New Year! This is the perfect time to re-introduce myself and our facility to our new followers and our long time clients.

My name is Alexa McWilliams. I am a graduate from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor of Science degree in Equine Science and Management. I took courses on things like anatomy, nutrition, and industry issues. I learned a lot about identifying lameness through movement, natural gaits, and how horses use themselves. I actually did my senior exit project on EIPH in all performance horses.
I come from a family of horse enthusiasts and began my show career in the Saddlebred world, transitioning to barrel racing as a teenager. My family and I now breed, raise, train and sell barrel and pole horses. Growing up I always wanted a career in the equine field.

While attending UK I was fortunate enough to work at a world re-known equine hospital under several highly accredited lameness vets. And in the summers I worked for a highly awarded reproduction specialist. My internships included working with rehab facilities in Texas and the largest rehab center on the east Coast located in Lexington KY.

I have been able to take what I’ve learned from these experiences to my own facility in Northern Kentucky that specializes in Rehabilitation, Fitness, and management of the equine athlete.

We have been in business since 2016 and have the experience required to develop the plan your horse needs regardless of the ailment they may be facing. We have rehabilitated numerous types of injuries and issues successfully and have a tried and true system in place to ensure your horse gets results!

We have several modalities and pieces of equipment including an Aqua Icelander aquatic treadmill. Inside our heated building, we feature two drying stalls for cold weather, a Bemer, a RevitaVet Red Light system, a Flexineb Nebulizer, and a laser. We have seen outstanding results over the years with horses of all breeds and levels, either coming back from injuries, or just trying to gain a competitive edge and improve performance.

We also provide reproductive services. We work with Dr Barbara Schmidt and provide care and transportation (less than a mile) to be sure your mare is settled for the season.

I’m excited to continue serving our Equine community in this tri area. We are conveniently located just an hour north of Lexington and Louisville and under a half an hour from Indiana and Ohio state lines. We have an easily accessible driveway and are just minutes from the interstate. Our primary customer base are performance horses from Thoroughbred and Standardbred racehorses to Hunter Jumpers, and into the western world with Barrel horses and Show horses but we are open to all!

Our staff is ready to care for your horse like their own, we know each one by name. We are small enough to give adequate attention to your horse but also have the experience and expertise needed to keep your horse’s health, safety, soundness and happiness a priority.
You can have peace of mind knowing there is someone working here in the barn and doing routine checks for 12-14 hours a day.

We have a wonderful farm veterinarian less than a mile from our facility who is always on call and we are less than an hour from the two largest equine hospitals in the world.
We are looking forward to an awesome 2024 and already have several horses booked.

Schedule a tour or book your horse with us today, do not wait! Our busiest part of the year is approaching.
Happy Riding 🐴

The Aquatic Treadmill is an awesome tool to aid the rehabilitation process of most injuries!

The water ALLEVIATES up to 50% of their body weight while still working the tendons, ligaments, and joints enough to heal correctly. An injury healed with zero workload will most likely re-injure as the scar tissue sets in and the elasticity in the tendon fibers is lower.

The low impact work REDUCES joint concussion while allowing the horse to work in a NATURAL gait and ENCOURAGES correct collection of the body.
This nearly ELIMINATES compensation!

The COLD water draws out heat and inflammation.

And the CONTROLLED environment provides a safe alternative to risky hand walking and turnout post stall rest.

I’ve been slacking on my shoutout posts! I want to start with our very own “Runnin Jetolena” aka Darla 💜
She’s been placing in the top a lot this summer, with two seconds and two fourths out of 100+ head fields and most importantly she’s staying Honest and Clean!

It’s takes a true village, so I can’t take all of the credit. Great vets, farrier, the right show prep regimen all play a part. Darla works twice a week on the aquatic treadmill which keeps her sound and fit along with regular riding.
If you think 1-2 times a week won’t make a difference, you are mistaken, our haul in clients have great results too!
Darla stays strong enough to get low in those turns and power out of them no matter the ground conditions! Check out the action shots below, she’s 16.2 hands by the way 🤩

COOL SCIENCE (pun intended)!

An old myth wants us to believe that horses should be walked until they cool completely after exercise, even in the summer. However, a study from 2020 looked at five different ways to cool a horse after exercise: walking, walking with fans, walking with intermittent cold water application, walking with intermittent cold water application and scraping, and stationary with continuous tap water application. As it turns out, the method that resulted in the quickest return to normal body temperature was stationary with continuous tap water application (2 minutes), while walking alone took the longest time for recovery (25 minutes).

Bottom line: enjoy your rides in the sun this summer but remain vigilant for signs of heat stress in your horse. If they look tired, it’s time for a drink, a cool bath, and a break in the shade.

"HOT" TIPS FOR SAFE SUMMER RIDING

As you enjoy some fun in the sun with your favorite equine, make sure you understand how the combination of heat and humidity can take the fun part out the equation — and potentially even turn into a dangerous situation for your horse.

When riding in hot weather, remember to take precautions and use your common sense. Remain vigilant for dehydration and for signs of heat exhaustion, as the situation can quickly escalate into heat stroke. If your horse looks hot and tired, it's time for a drink, a cold bath and a break in the shade.

Consult your veterinarian for more information, or learn more about the signs of heat stroke on our website at https://aaep.org/issue/heat-stroke
