Trainer Tip:
INVEST In YOURSELF
What does "investing in yourself" mean?
On the surface, investing in yourself seems simple. You find a goal and invest time, effort and money
Hereโs where it gets complicated.
Results donโt always show right away. In some cases, they might not show at all, or at least, not in the way you expected. Thatโs when itโs easy to give up. But the people who find ways to enjoy the process, not just the results, are the ones who can push through the highs and lows of their development journeys.
Investing in yourself means finding ways to reach your goals that you actually enjoy. It can also mean investing in things that benefit you along the way, i.e the right horse , tack, etc.
Nothing worthwhile comes easy, so youโre going to run into disappointments and setbacks while pursuing your goals. Even though your success is worth fighting for, it can be hard to push yourself to try again after a failure or string of failures. But you only fail if you stop trying.
Recognize gaps in your knowledge that need to be filled and move forward!!
Read Books dedicated to your chosen craft, listen to podcasts, ask questions, watch lessons with other clients, ask your trainer to ride your horse during your coaching session, go to clinics, etc
Whatever you deem an investment in yourself, do those things!

With another round of 90ยฐ+ weather rolling in, just a friendly reminder !!
"Cool" hot weather tips! โ๏ธ
The notion that a hot, recently exercised horse needs to walk until they are completely cooled off is a myth. A 2020 study found that out of the five methods tested, the quickest way to return to normal body temperature was stationary with continuous tap water application. This doesn't mean that you should abruptly stop exerciseโfinish your ride or training session with a slow walk to allow your horse's heart rate and breathing to gradually return to normal, but after that your sweaty, hardworking horse should be offered a cool shower and drinking water (small but frequent amounts) without delay.
Overall, enjoy your summer rides but be aware of signs of heat stress in your horse. When heat and humidity soar, even moderate exercise can push your equine friend's body temperature beyond safe limits! Be sure to contact your veterinarian for more information about heat stroke and for recommendations tailored to your horse's individual situation.

It is with a sad heart that we share the news of our dear friends passing, Ron Mahefkey. Ron was a Reining Enthusiast PGA Professional and lover of his yellow Porsche. He was part of our Barn family for many years and brought so much joy and laughter to us at horse shows.
Even at 80 years of age, he was always looking to ride to that 70. We will miss him, his wit and character and passion for living life to the fullest.
He is survived by his wife Ann, whom he devoted his life to caring for ,two Children , Cris and Brad and two Granddaughters Lucy and Phoebe.
While we may have lost him, Heaven gained an Angel and we know he will continue to shine his light upon us.
Services for Ron will be held at Honey Creek Woodlands in Conyers , 5/28/24 @ 1pm.
Ron's family is requesting donations in his honor in lieu of flowers.

๐๐ง๐๐๐ฃ๐๐ง๐จ ๐๐๐ฅ: Us humans all need a day off to blow off steam, so do our equine athletes!! As often as you can, turn your horses out to play, relax, have time in the sunshine to just be a horse! Horses need a physical and mental break just like we do..๐๐ And Just like us, they can get a little restless staying inside for days on end, it's not good for their minds or their bodies! Between training sessions , give your horse some R & R. That could be a day, three days or maybe even a week or longer. You might be pleasantly surprised that once they come back to training, that they come back stronger. #hermsherwinperformancehorses #training #trainertips #TuesdayTraining #TrainingTipTuesday #nrha #reininghorse #NRHAReining
#trainingtipTuesday ROLLBACK DRILL: Many years ago, Mike Flarida taught me this drill and I have used it ever since. It simplifies this maneuver and takes the focus away from the rundown and stop , which from a repetition perspective,is pretty important. Starting in a circle, ask your horse to jog . Come to a stop and back up to load his weight onto his hind end. Look over your shoulder, point where you want to go, making sure to emphasize get going after you've asked. It's very important to make sure your body follows through completely within that rollback . Ideally you would also like to send your horse beyond 180 degrees . When you show, your horse may lose some of its rollback to the full 180 , so sending Beyond in this drill will help counter that loss in the show pen. Make sure you really send your horse out of the rollback to a strong lope each time. This creates the horse wanting to get through the rollback quicker. Break your horse back down to a trot and repeat. This drill will help build confidence while also teaching your horse to relax after leaving the rollback. Several things to keep in mind: 1. As you do this drill, your horse may begin to anticipate. Do not let your horse rollback before you ask for it. If that should happen, bring your horse back , straight between the reins and continue to back up. THEN ask for the rollback. 2. After several times of really sending your horse through the rollback, the ASK , ideally should lessen . 3. It's ok to make mistakes. Make them now during practice instead of in the show pen. 4. Do everything in moderation and always end on a positive note. Thank you Olivia for being our demonstrator!! First time doing this drill on Moe ๐ช
