Hi Flower Friends!
How ‘bout a little Friday introduction 👋
We’re Carly and Joseph, the faces behind Aromatic Acres.

After we got married in 2015 we dreamed of starting a medicinal herb farm (not THAT monoculture medicinal herb) cultivating thing things like echinacea, calendula, St. John’s wort, goldenseal, you get the idea. Eventually we started growing culinary herbs, vegetables and flowers too.

Flowers are what stuck and we went all in growing hundreds of varieties and colors back in the 2018 season. This year we are celebrating our 7th flower season 🥳

We love going to see live music.
Fun fact, Joe used to work in the live sound industry before managing a video production team at a marketing company. He left that world to pursue flowers full time in 2022.

We collect koozies from shows we go see and places we visit around the world.

I (Carly) am the one who manages our social media and love a good beach read, strolling through botanical gardens, a hot cup of black coffee any time of year and baseball hats.

Travel is non-negotiable and we try to take one big (🤞🤞🤞International 🤞🤞🤞) trip each year. Sometimes this looks like an actual vacation and sometimes it looks like living like a local. In my early 20’s, my dad told me to spend my life collecting experiences, not things. ⬅️ Best. Advice. EVER.

We cook a lot, like we eat 98% of our meals at home. This week we made something brand new to us, an authentic Indonesian specialty, Gado-Gado. (Quite the different take from the NOLS cookbook version I used to make back in my trail/conservation crew days that consisted of pasta, peanut butter, soy sauce and rice vinegar 😂)

We truly believe in the healing power of flowers because we have experienced it ourselves in both tending to a garden and having fresh bouquets in the kitchen.

BOTW: Summer in Cream City

She’s loud and proud. Featuring a delightful collection including our FOTW, agrostemma. Vibrant and diverse blooms of yarrow, bupleurum, comos, agrostemma, scabiosa, and snapdragons are woven together to form a pleasing + eclectic arrangement. It’s anything but horrible.

We’ve been working really hard with some truly amazing partners to bring you more workshops in 2024. I’m so excited to share that our July + August workshops are now out in the world!!! 

July 14 - Seasonal Floral Sun Prints 
with art therapist, Brittany Runaas. Brittany has been helping us plant, harvest and arrange bouquets for a number of years. I think it’s been 4 years, but I honestly can’t remember what life was like before she made her way into our lives. Now we’ve taken the next step and finally booked our first workshop together. 🤩

This workshop is also something special because we will be doing it in the space, a healing space for our community. You’ve driven by these windows a zillion times when it was the old wallpaper store, but now the window murals change seasonally with playful illustrations. Kat is a beautiful soul who has touched my heart and I know will touch yours too. There’s always something new going on in this space from yoga classes to sound baths to art openings. 

August 4- Firefly in Bloom
The had me at Kneeland-Walker House gardens…in August. 😍 A Sunday morning flower arranging experience surrounded by peak season perennial bloom in this historical space. Plus it’s happening during the 38th annual Firefly Art Fair, AND all participants will get free entry to enjoy the art fair after the workshop. Do not sleep on this one.

We will be arranging under a tent and we’ll have a spot to keep your finished arrangement fresh while you shop the art fair afterward 😉 

August 25- Elevated Centerpiece Workshop 
This is a dreamy one for the flower lover who is looking to expand their floral design skills in an intimate setting.

has invited us into her magical, light-drenched ceramics studio in Bay View. With less than 10 participants you’ll get plenty of 1:1 attention. We will be taking a deep dive into floral design, working with foam-free mechanics to design a centerpiece arrangement in your custom LFC compote.

Life at the garden this morning. So much early season growth! Perennials and hardy annuals sharing messages of hope and rebirth.

The base of the Meet Me in the Meadow bouquet includes a playful color palette that includes purples, greens and oranges supported by blushes and whites (including the tiny daisy-like flower heads of ever so charming feverfew).

Lavender centers transition to violet petals on ‘Fama Blue’ scabiosa (1). Ruffled salmon florets of ‘Madame Butterfly Bronze’ snapdragon (2) enhance the spirit of this bouquet. And finally ‘Emerald Tassels’ amaranth (3) provides not only a refreshing pop of lime, but also a pop of eccentric texture.

The base of our Pink Champagne on Ice bouquet features a monochromatic color palette highlighting, you guessed it, all things pink!

‘King Size Raspberry Rose’ strawflowers (2) offer a richer, saturated pink to this bouquet. The peachy pink petals of ‘Linda’s Baby’ dahlias (3) give a feminine softness to this bouquet.
