Saunders Ranch headquarters was established in 1929 in Weatherford, Texas. Tom Saunders III, a descendant of the prominent Saunders clan who came to Texas in 1850 and established prospering cattle commission companies in Ft. Worth, San Antonio and Houston, Texas and put together additional holdings that are now known as Twin V Ranch and Saunders Cattle Co. III, founding member and past president o

f the NCHA, got his family roots as a cowpuncher and horseman on his fatherโ€™s family ranches in Borden Co., Texas, Archer, CO and Choteau, OK. His ranching education predicated a good cow brute as well as top horse flesh. He had both, and he demanded good hands. His son-in-law, Jim Calhoun, owned, rode and trained the first world champion cutting horse stallion, Kings Pistol, in 1957. The female offspring of this line of breeding has produced industry leading sires such as Playgun, Smart Little Pistol and Cat Silver, and has provided the basis for the present line of breeding. Saunders V, raised on this cow outfit in central Texas, represents this same line of breeding his family has stood for. He has started cutting and ranch horses under saddle for more than 30 years for numerous ranches in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and California. As one of the co-producers of the Road to the Horse, he helps other horsemen who are looking for ways to improve their own training techniques. Being exposed to and working side-by-side with Chris Cox, Craig Cameron and Terry Crofoot, he has seen many outstanding approaches to advanced horsemanship techniques. This sixth generation cowboy enjoys passing that knowledge on.

Crazy Alice rears, stomps and bolts around the edge of the corral. She defies the lariat around her neck and uses it to drag the rancher through the dirt. Itโ€™s not until the man dallies his rope around a snubbing post in the middle of the corral that heโ€™s able to control the wild mare.

***Parker County Issues Emergency Declaration of local state of disaster due to drought and prohibiting the discharge of fireworks in Parker County***

Due to the current severe drought conditions and the imminent threat of individuals discharging fireworks into dry grass, trees and brush, Parker County Judge Pat Deen, today, signed an Emergency Declaration of a local state of disaster due to drought and prohibiting the discharge of any fireworks within Parker County effective immediately.

This order does NOT prohibit the sale of fireworks, only the discharge.
This order does NOT impact the local public fireworks shows in Weatherford or Hudson Oaks.

This emergency declaration and prohibition is in effect for 60 hours and will run through midnight on Thursday June 30, 2022. This emergency order and prohibition order is currently being sent to Texas Governor Greg Abbott. Governor Greg Abbott is being requested to extend the declaration and prohibition of discharging fireworks until July 5, 2022.

Currently in Parker County, 100% of the county is listed as abnormally dry, and 66.85% of Parker County additionally classified as in severe drought. Also, the Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI), maintained by Texas A&M Agrilife Research and Texas A&M Forest Service, is an index that is used to determine fire potential and the current KBDI indicates a KDBI of 590 for Parker County as of June 27, 2022. Furthermore, Parker County has and will continue to experience wildfires across the County, with local fire departments responding to 28 wildfires within the past 7 days and 61 wildfires to date for the month of June

โ€œDue to extreme drought and fire conditions across Parker County, it is critical we consider the potential threat that the private use of fireworks could cause to our residents, property and First Responders. In celebrating Independence Day, please consider attending one of the approved public display shows in Parker County.โ€ Parker County Judge Pat Deen

โ€œParker County is very dry and we are concerned about individuals discharging fireworks starting fires and endangering people, livestock and property. This is a safety measure for all of Parker County and we fully support this declaration.โ€ Sean Hughes, Parker County Fire Marshal and Emergency Management Coordinator.

All Parker County residents are being asked to not discharge personal fireworks until the county has had more rain.

For more information about this declaration and order prohibiting the discharge of fireworks, contact the Parker County Fire Marshalโ€™s office at 817-598-0969.
