Who remembers our girl Hope who jumped through a second story window in Philly to escape the home she was abandoned in? Hope is doing well and gaining weight. She has a bit of stranger danger but who can blame her, can be hit or miss with other dogs and doesn't like cats or small animals. She would do best with kids 15yrs and up. She is a ball of energy, loves to play and will take over your bed. She is around 4yrs old. She would love a home to call her own but due to her stranger danger she may need a couple of meets. If interested please fill out an application on our website AACNJ.ORG

Squeakers was adopted from us quite a few years ago. His owner recently surrendered him to a high intake shelter after they no long wanted him. The shelter reached out when they realized he was adopted from us and of course we took him back. He has been friendly, social and sweet since coming here but he can get overwhelmed by the shelter. He seems ok with other dogs, not sure about cats and he is around 9 years old. IS you are interested you can fill out an application on our website AACNJ.ORG

What displacement behaviors does your dog demonstrate and why? My boy, Isaiah, chews a blanket ( provided for him) when he sees a dog pass by our house.

Displacement behaviour in dogs refers to a behaviour that is displayed in a situation that causes conflicting emotions or motivations, which results in the dog performing a behaviour that is unrelated to the situation at hand. It is often described as a coping mechanism that helps the dog deal with their conflicting emotions.

Here are some common signs to look for:

Pacing: Dogs may pace back and forth when they're unsure of what to do next.

Whining or whimpering: Dogs may vocalise to express their confusion or frustration.

Avoidance: Dogs may avoid eye contact or physically move away from the source of their confusion.

Pawing or scratching: Dogs may paw at the ground, scratch themselves or scratch objects when they're trying to figure out what to do.

Sniffing: Dogs may sniff the ground, themselves, or objects around them to gather more information and try to figure out what's going on.

Picking up a toy: Dogs may pick up a toy and start playing with it, as a way to redirect their focus and reduce their confusion.

Changing the subject: Dogs may suddenly become interested in something else and act as if they're busy elsewhere, as a way to avoid the situation that's causing their confusion.

FUFU is 4 yo. He spent his first 2 years tied up outside with no real interaction or socialization. His owner surrendered him to a high intake shelter and there she stayed with little interest. They were becoming very full so we pulled him & he has spent the last 17 months at the shelter & the past 5 months with his foster family.
Per his foster family..
He needs:
*An experienced handler with the bully breed
*Kids 16+
*No cats or small dogs. Could potentially live with another dog his size or bigger! I think he has a crush on my Bree he met through his crate💕
*Loves car rides, running, training, his crate, TV, people & belly rubs
*No food aggression
* He’s a jumper & gets excited easily so training, a strong handler & patience is key. We can teach you all of the training we’ve learned on how to handle him. You don’t have to hire a trainer. We (Christina & Jason) will also will provide a free trainer visit if you decide to adopt him!
🐶He sounds like a lot of work. We know. And at times he is. But he is also incredibly loving, goofy, funny, fun, playful & SOOOO grateful🩵
We will be here all along your journey with FUFU to support you wherever you need!

If you are interested and can meet his needs please fill out an application on our website AACNJ.ORG
