ATTENTION:

As of August 1, 2024, dogs entering or returning to the United States from Canada must meet new requirements based on where they've been in the previous six months and where they received their rabies vaccines. The CDC's DogBot can help determine which rules apply to your dog. If you don't comply, your dog could be denied entry at the US border.

Black fly season is here! The flies favorite spot to attack seems to be the stomach/groin area. If you see a spot like this on your dog it is most likely a black fly bite. The lesions are often confused with the bulls eye target that humans can get from tick bites or ringworm. The black fly bites usually resolve on their own within 48 hours and treatment is most often not required. If you have any questions you can give the clinic a call at 802-254-8140.

A member of the Brattleboro Veterinary Clinic family, Zoe Chaine, tragically lost her life on May 5th. If you met Zoe, even if only for a moment, you knew that her children, Rory and Calvin, were her everything. She shared so many stories with us about her kids and the joys and hardships of being a single mother. Rory and Calvin have the love and support of an amazing family and friends, as Zoe touched the lives of so many people in our community. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with the children's needs. If you are able to help it would be greatly appreciated by the entire Chaine family. Please follow the link below if you would like to help.

Soar with the angels our dear friend. We will look for you in the stars!!!

This is the time of year we start seeing an increase in dogs getting quilled by porcupines. No, porcupines don't shoot their quills at dogs. Instead, porcupines back into & swipe their tails at curious dogs who get too close, resulting in a muzzle full of quills!
If this does happen to your pup, please do NOT attempt to remove the quills yourself! You can push the quills deeper, break them and cause migration, miss a few, or get bitten by your dog. Quills are painful and require removal by a veterinarian. Prevention: leash up in & around wooded areas from dusk to dawn when porcupines are most active!

The clinic will be closed Saturday, April 27th.
