Did you know that while we are dealing with traffic on I-95, there’s a whole group of people spending the winter on their sailboats offshore in the Bahamas with their dogs and cats?! The Clematis crew went on a field trip this week to perform International Health Certificates for the Salty Dogs Sailing Association. We met a bunch of sweet dogs and cats that were about to make the trip, and got a cool rally flag as a parting gift. Did you know? Dogs can donate blood to other dogs! Leo Howell aka Cubby (because he’s a baby bear cub and Dr Howell’s dog) sat so still and was so brave for a blood draw where we collected 450ml of fresh whole blood. He’s been screened prior and was found to be a universal donor! In canines, this means he’s Negative (similar to O - blood type in humans). One of our beloved patients was found to have a bleeding mass on her spleen causing acute collapse, inappetence and anemia. Without intervention, she would not be with us today. Surgery was swift and a blood transfusion was administered and she’s back to herself!!!
