Gunshot Injury: Specialty Surgery Needed

Hanson was found shot in the leg with a bullet lodged in his bone. When the Madison County Sheriff's Office Animal Services Division asked us to help with Hanson's case, we knew we had to take him in.

Due to the severity of the injury, we thought amputation may be the only path forward. However, our veterinarians consulted a surgical specialist who believes it will be possible to save Hanson’s leg through orthopedic surgery.

Hanson is such a gentle soul, and we can’t imagine how much he has suffered with this injury. We hope to restore Hanson’s mobility, and eventually, find him a loving home. Hanson’s surgery and recovery care will cost over $3,000.

Transformation 🐛🦋

Teddy was matted, dirty, and scared when he was found stray in January. He needed extensive dental and eye care to make up for years of going without.

After professional grooming, three surgeries, and lots of TLC, Teddy is healthy, happy, and ADOPTED! 🎉

You all restocked our pantry! After our plea for pet food last week, we've received a flood of food! 🎉

We got lots of comments saying "I can only send a little, I wish I could do more" - but look what happens when everyone does a little! We are so grateful for your support. This food will save lives! 🐶🐱

Our medical team took a field trip to The Caridad Center, an organization that provides vital healthcare to those in need. We partnered up to provide veterinary care to the patients' pets! 🐱🐶

Peggy Adams staff provided free wellness exams, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and parasite prevention to pets & families in need!💉

Happy Gilmore just arrived at Peggy Adams after a week-long staycation in a foster home! Happy was part of our short-term foster transfer program with Palm Beach County Animal Care & Control.

It wasn't goodbye after all! 🐶

When a foster puppy becomes a forever BFF!

Vicki and her son usually foster kittens, but recently took in their first puppy! When they returned their foster puppy, Lily, to the shelter after a few weeks of care, they thought they would probably never see her again. She would be adopted by strangers and go her own way 👋

But when a foster coordinator called to double check that they weren't adopting Lily, the family realized how much they had missed their foster pup. Vicki says:

"Well it wasn’t goodbye with Lily! We were missing her and through a course of events everything seemed meant to be. When I picked him up, his face lit up and he said “I really miss her! This is the best day of my life!” 😭❤️

Meet Maggie, a kitten life saver! 🍼

Maggie is our volunteer of the month!🌟

As a Nursery Assistant, Maggie helps bottle feed tiny neonatal kittens here at the shelter. As a foster caretaker, she also takes kittens home and cares for them until they're ready for adoption! 🏡

Here's what Maggie has to say about volunteering:

⭐How long have you been volunteering at Peggy Adams?

8 years! After I retired from teaching, I looked for a way to give back. I was so fortunate to stumble across the Peggy Adams website and find out that a Kitten Nursery had just opened. I have never enjoyed something so much as volunteering at such a wonderful organization as Peggy Adams!

⭐What is your favorite part of your volunteer role?

My favorite part of any shift is getting to feed, weigh and nurture any neonate that comes into the Nursery. It is so rewarding when a tiny little kitten finally latches onto the bottle. They are so fragile and depend on us to give them a fighting chance to survive.

⭐What motivates you to keep volunteering?

I love working with kittens and learning new things about their care and the new protocols that are implemented. The camaraderie of the staff and the other volunteers makes me feel a part of a Village, making a difference in the lives of tiny, defenseless animals!
