Pyometra in Dogs & Cats

Spaying your female dog and cat have multiple advantages, not just because it helps to keep the population down and relieve the crowding in animal shelters.

It also prevents the development of pyometra, which is a uterine infection common in older, unspayed female dogs and cats. It’s a particularly serious condition in dogs, and if it doesn’t get timely treatment it can result in a secondary infection and ultimately the death of your dog.

If your pet is not spayed, and develops symptoms indicating she is unwell, poor appetite, lethargy, abdominal/pelvic pain, possible vaginal discharge, etc., she should be seen immediately by a Veterinarian.

PetLife offers comprehensive care & treatment for Pyometra- understand the symptoms and call today to schedule a visit with the Veterinarian

🐾🦃 Thanksgiving Cat Safety Tips! 🦃🐾

Hey pet parents! 🐱 As we gear up for Thanksgiving festivities, it's essential to keep our feline friends in mind. Follow these tips to ensure a safe and happy holiday for your precious kitties:

1️⃣ Turkey Talk:
🚫 Keep turkey bones away from curious cats. They can splinter and cause serious harm.
🍗 Avoid sharing seasoned or fatty turkey scraps. Stick to cat-friendly treats if you want to share a special meal.

2️⃣ No Onions or Garlic:
🚫 These ingredients, commonly found in stuffing and other dishes, are toxic to cats. Keep all onion and garlic-containing foods out of their reach.

3️⃣ Table Decorations:
🌽 Decorative items like corn, candles, and plants can pose a hazard. Ensure they're placed where your cat can't access them, reducing the risk of ingestion or injury.

4️⃣ Secure the Trash:
🗑️ Cats love to explore, and the Thanksgiving trash can be tempting. Dispose of food scraps promptly and use a secure trash bin to prevent scavenging.

5️⃣ Quiet Spaces:
🏠 Create a calm, quiet space for your cat away from the hustle and bustle of guests. Provide a cozy bed, toys, and maybe some soft music to help them relax.

6️⃣ Watch the Decorations:
🎉 Be cautious with decorations like streamers and ribbons. Cats may find them intriguing, but ingesting them can lead to digestive issues.

7️⃣ Emergency Plan:
📞 Familiarize yourself with the contact information for emergency veterinary services in case your cat gets into something they shouldn't.

8️⃣ Monitor Guests:
🚶 Remind guests not to share their Thanksgiving feast with your cat. Some foods that are safe for humans can be harmful to felines.

Remember, a happy and healthy cat is the best Thanksgiving gift! If you have any questions, feel free to contact our team at PetLife by calling 561-790-6464 .
Share these tips with your fellow pet parents and let's make it a safe holiday for everyone, furry friends included. 🍁🐾

🐾 Today, we honor Canine Lymphoma Awareness Day! 🐾

At PetLife Animal Hospital, we'd like to take a moment to raise awareness and support for our furry friends battling lymphoma. This day serves as a reminder of the importance of early detection, treatment, and the love we share with our beloved canine companions.

What Is Canine Lymphoma?

Canine lymphoma, is one of the most common types of cancer in dogs. The term “lymphoma” refers to several types of cancer derived from lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell.

In most cases, the disease originates in organs that act as part of the immune system, such as the lymph nodes, bone marrow, or spleen. However, it can also occur in other areas, such as the respiratory system, gastrointestinal tract, or skin. Between 20 and 24% of all tumor cases in dogs are canine lymphoma, and the disease is most common in older pets.

Symptoms Of Canine Lymphoma:

There are more than 30 types of canine lymphoma, all of which vary in behavior. The symptoms of this disease vary, too, and are often similar to the symptoms of other illnesses. This is one of the many reasons it is vital to seek veterinary treatment when you notice any problem with your dog. While a symptom may have a minor cause, it could also signify something much more sinister, like cancer.

How We Diagnose Lymphoma In Dogs:

If we suspect that your dog may have cancer, we’ll recommend various tests. Most often, cytology or biopsy is the best way to diagnose lymphoma. During cytology, we insert a fine needle into an organ to extract a small tissue sample. For a biopsy, we’ll surgically remove a small piece of the organ we suspect may be affected by cancer.

🐾🏥 Join us in celebrating Animal Shelter Appreciation Week! 🏥🐾

At PetLife Animal Hospital, we are immensely grateful for the incredible work done by animal shelters. They are the unsung heroes, tirelessly working to give a second chance to our beloved furry friends.

This week, let's take a moment to recognize and appreciate the dedication of these shelters in caring for, rehoming, and advocating for animals in need. Their compassion knows no bounds, and their efforts make a world of difference in the lives of countless animals.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the shelter staff, volunteers, and supporters. Your hard work and passion do not go unnoticed, and you are making a remarkable impact on the lives of our animal companions.

Let's continue to support and spread awareness about these vital organizations, and if you can, consider donating, volunteering, or adopting from one of our local animal shelters.

11/03/2023

Dogs can pick up hookworms simply though skin contact with infected soil or through ingestion of the dirt through routine cleaning. Whipworms are one of the four most common intestinal parasites that can infect your dog. Dogs become infected with whipworms, as most other intestinal parasites, through infected soil. Because whipworms can be more difficult to diagnosis than other intestinal parasites, it is important your dog doesn’t miss their f***l test every 6 months or if you're noticing diarrhea.

Unfortunately, it is fairly common for a dog to become infected with an internal or external parasite during his or her lifetime. These pesky parasites can affect your loved one in a variety of ways, sometimes even causing serious health problems. Fortunately, we can help! Call PetLife today at (561) 790-6464 and we can find the prevention protocol that fits your pet and family’s lifestyles best.

Petlife’s Story

PetLife is a privately-owned Primary/Urgent Care Animal Hospital offering concierge pet medical & dental care, and comprised of a team of highly skilled, caring, compassionate, and enthusiastic veterinary professionals. Our 6,000 square foot facility, located in West Palm Beach, also offers a full service Grooming Salon & Spa, a retail pet supplies boutique, intimate overnight boarding and just about everything you need for the life of your pet. All services are provided with a team mentality, to meet all the needs of your individual pet, all under one roof. We strive to provide outstanding service, with state-of-the-art diagnostics and treatment for the most positive outcome possible, and always with the support of our full-team, along the way. At PetLife, we pride ourselves on providing individualized attention for the family (or pet guardian) as well as the individualized pet and each are provided with unparalleled access to our team of veterinarians and veterinary technicians.

In an era when clients have become familiar with getting an answering machine and directions to the Emergency Hospital during non-working hours, PetLife still believes in being a support to our families, 24 hours, 7 days a week. Once we are the team you choose to see your pet through his health & well being, whenever you need us, we are here. We emphasize the relationship between the clients, patients and veterinary staff.

Your appointment will never feel rushed and will not be complete until you are completely confident with the diagnostic and/or treatment plan, and all your questions and concerns have been addressed.

Together, your pet will receive the most comprehensive care available in pet medicine today.
