Since we are going to show him this summer, Rocky is getting some arena riding. He needs to get more consistent and I am also working to get his head up and nose out in his trot. Similar to his dam (who was my show horse for 3-4 years), he likes to drop his head a tuck. He is not on the bit and I don't want him to be very much so the plan is to work on discouraging him by giving a light bump when he tucks. Unlike his dam, he is VERY trotty so I am also trying to get him on the bit enough to smooth out his trot a little.

It has been a very busy week but it culminated in a fun Saturday for us!! The show season is upon us and we made out first appearance on June 10th at our local fun show. We plan to hit all of them plus a couple that were added to a buckle series. I decided to show Rocky this year and Shelby is on Bella until we wean Cookie and get Sprinkles back in shape. My niece is also showing Rocky in the youth gaited classes.

Ready for Onyx to get shed out so I can see how black my tested buckskin looks! Lol! He is looking very black where he has shed his dead and faded winter coat. Since I have decided to geld him, I am not going to worry about doing a retest. I plan on getting that done soon so I can get serious about his groundwork. Looking forward to seeing what his movement under saddle will be like although it will still be a while before I ride him. I have seen him foxtrot at liberty in the field and like what I have seen there.

On March 27th, Sprinkles delivered a beautiful bay filly! I am very pleased with how our MFT pony cross has turned out so far. Cookie (current call name) is sure a pretty little thing. It looks like Bella did not settle after all so I plan to breed Sprinkles back to the same stallion for a 2024 foal. I have sent off for her DNA kit and will be sending in her paperwork for registration with MFTPR. So excited to watch this one grow!
