Today at the schoolhouse … these two little munchkins (same household) are going to need their first grooming soon. It’s never too early to start the desensitization and conditioning process, as well as teaching cooperation. Bree got introduced to some grooming tools. Staley is shy and lacks confidence. So Jenn allowed any interaction or closeness to her to be in his terms, and he got really good at doing “paws up” on her leg for click-treat (it was adorable)! The two don’t do well apart from each other. So while Jenn worked with one, the other was learning to wait their turn, keeping quiet and satisfied with a snuffle mat.
Bon Bon and Dakota are praying that they pass their AKC Trick Dog tests tomorrow! 🙏🤞
Portable, silicone snuffle mat for the win! It even stuck to the floor! This is Ibex waiting for her veterinary chiropractic appointment with Dr. Newman at Bilmar Veterinary Services. The front office was very busy today, with multiple dogs and people in a small space. Ibex has had years of navigating such environments and she’s fine with it. But I thought adding a calming and quiet activity would be enjoyable for her. A bonus is that the dogs around her see her relaxed body language, and her head is down not making any eye contact with others, minding her own business.
Today RVDT was not able to go to the Hampshire Pride March and celebration. But instead we took training dog Rose to see the awesome people Drawing Board Brewing Company in Florence who honor LGBTQ pride. Rose is a 7 month old Husky who did a fantastic job on our public field trip! 😊👍
This gorgeous new student, Dune, just joined the Right Vibe community. Dune and his person want to sharpen their skills and build teamwork towards taking the Canine Good Citizen test. Dune’s person is part of the Northampton Veterinary Clinic care team, and it always brings me joy to work with such kind and dedicated animal lovers !
Living with a dog is a vivid life lesson every day. They’re not with us for show, as entertainment pieces, or to prove anything about us or them. They’re here to teach us about love, and how to seize every moment.
………
A few days ago our Right Vibe dog, whose name was Surprise, lost his life only minutes from having a great time in agility class. He bled out internally from a tumor very quickly.
If you knew Surprise you knew the most innocent, well meaning and ingenuous soul there could be. He humbled us righteous and self-serving humans. He gave his all to everything he did, and to every person he met. He gave as much love as he could every single day because he didn’t know any other way. Surprise was a rescue and had a past to recover from. He needed a lot of positive training and support in his early years to be brave and not let fear triggers crumble him. But he always tried hard, and he persisted in becoming a stable, happy guy.
………
The Schoolhouse will miss Surprise’s cameo appearances as the most enthusiastic and classically obedient demo dog there ever was.
I’m starting to teach an operant behavior chain for rear foot nail trims. Surprise has come a long way in cooperating for nail trimmings, and turning around his need to be jumpy (and sometimes tries to bite), but he is still much worse for his rear paws than his front. So I made a game out of positioning himself in a way that works for me and that he could be compliant in. It’s not perfect yet, and I know he still shows signs of discomfort. But I’m really happy with this for the first day of it.
It was a full (school)house today for Canine Good Citizen practice! I What awesome dogs! Love them.

Check out this candid video of Rose and Leela's good doorway behavior!! Today, while the family with kids is home hunting for eggs and celebrating spring, these two Husky sisters are out of their hair having their first day train with RVDT. It's going so well and they are delightful!
Preperation is everything !!! I am ridiculously proud of this team right here, my human and dog students! Today was race day at their house, which means a party to watch the runners go by. Remy is typically very unsure of other people in/around the house. He handled everything and everyone in stride today, and was able to be part of the party. Mat training and settle by mom were the big winners today ! Jumping for joy for them!
Expanding my training, curriculum development, and pushing myself to keep learning about dog training and behavior starts with my own dogs. So on Friday, I brought the signature schoolhouse move of “take your turn” to Galla, Surprise and Bon. 1 hour of play, training, and trimming so that they could get their nails trimmed without distress, fear or conflict. It is far from perfect cooperative care. But we’re practicing the process .. and we’re getting there !
Right now at the Schoolhouse….when you can’t keep your eyes open at school any longer !! 😊😍
My special valentines at the schoolhouse today. 💕💘 I couldn’t be luckier!
Happy Valentine’s Day from Right Vibe!
What Sandra learned today: A better reward delivery system for Swizzle; How to bring in distractions to our “leave it” training with Hobie; Training Pablo to have a safe spot during thunder storms. And that’s just day 1 of 3, and we’re so excited to help our clients with effective training of their dogs ! Sandra is attending Clicker Expo, virtual - a three day conference with presentations by the premier educators, instructors and scientists in the positive reinforcement training field.
Meanwhile, the RVDT helper dogs did a lot of relaxing today on their day off. 😊
Hello and Happy New Year!
Sandra, Bon Bon and Ibex want to know what’s new on your training journey. We would love to hear from you and, better yet, help you meet your training goals this year! Start the year where you left off with your dog last year, and get ready for leaps and bounds advancement on your skills. We can't wait to work with you and your dog again this year!
Cheers, Sandra, Bon, Ibex & Tink (in training)
👊 🐾 🐾 🐾
I’m sharing two big wins today! Percy and Tink were both stellar patients for blood draws at Northampton Veterinary Clinic. 1) Percy’s mom sent me the pic with this to say: “ [He was] perfect this morning… thanks for all this real world training. It sure pays off”! 2) Tink, my adopted rescue, had a few scary and negative vet experiences when she was very young. So we have been diligently practicing for tolerance and keeping her in her comfort zone for medical handling. Today, everyone was relaxed and it was no biggie! Next big test - spay next week.
Happy New Year from Right Vibe Dog Training! We ended 2023 with the completion of the gallery on the back wall of the schoolhouse - take a look! That's just the beginning of bringing on some new features in 2024 to highlight the RVDT mission: to bring you and your dog down a compassionate training and learning path that you might not have even thought possible. Here's to understanding our dogs more fully this year; we will all live better for it!
Happy Holidays from Right Vibe Dog Training ! ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
Otis joined the Right Vibe fun last month. He has been growing, learning, and playing along, with the help of his friends and mentors at school. Headmistress, Ibex, makes sure to school him well! :)
Teaching your dog something new keeps their learning brain stretched and open, which increases confidence. AND… there’s never a shortage of fun! What/when did you last train something brand new ?
Dakota is a star! Every home for sale needs to be shown with a gorgeous dog, of course! This RVDT student went to work for his real estate agent mom, Danielle Arsenault. Look at his great down-stays!
Tink and I work hard on our foundation skills, aka dog life skills. Like clicker training cooperation for husbandry and medical care. These skills will pay off big when something unexpected happens to her…or when we just need to do routine things like nails!
Yesterday’s crew!
T minus 90 minutes to start! You can still register to attend the webinar. I’m excited to present demonstration videos on my trainings and teaching processes. Plus, my new puppy, Tink, is featured!

Brutus let his hair down at the end of lesson last night! 😁 We were so happy to see how comfortable he's gotten at the schoolhouse. Little Peanut wasn't sure what to make of it. These two teenies are so cute. Check out his moves - at home he's called Brutus Lee when he gets crazy !
