As pet owners and those who take care of them, we appreciate what vaccines do to practically eliminate horrible diseases in our pets—diseases like distemper, parvovirus, rhinotracheitis, and rabies. The last one on that list is particularly important because rabies infects humans through contact, typically a bite wound.
On average 60,000 people die of rabies annually worldwide, mostly children under 15. That number may actually be as high as 100,000 since many rural areas don’t report rabies deaths.
We are fortunate in the U.S. that between mass pet vaccinations and vaccines for humans infected by feral cats, raccoons and bats, deaths are a rarity in our country. In other places around the world, rabies is primarily transmitted through dog bites. Every year millions of healthy dogs are inhumanely killed for fear of this deadly disease, but this hasn’t stopped rabies from spreading.
Mission Rabies, an organization Dr. Williams personally supports, along with the World Health Organization, has an ambitious goal to eliminate canine transmitted rabies by 2030. In addition to donating to this nonprofit, Dr. Williams is heading to Cambodia this October to help vaccinate dogs along with other program volunteers.
If you’d like to join him in supporting their work to eradicate rabies and save lives in endemic areas, visit missionrabies.com or finalrabiesgeneration.org to donate.

You also can donate at our hospital through September 30 and Seminole Trail Animal Hospital will match all donations it receives up to the first $1,000.
Any amount is appreciated. Together we can eliminate rabies for good!
Thank you, Dr. Paul Williams.

Callie, a sweet Mini Labradoodle was attacked by a large dog in mid-July. She had a large wound to the left side of her chest. She was quickly rushed to the emergency clinic for surgery and treatment. Because bite wounds are very dirty, she developed severe infections, and her incisions were breaking down. Dr. Palumbo was able to close the smaller wounds with sutures, but the larger wounds were too large to close.
The wounds were treated with Phovia (a light therapy), bandaging, and antibiotics. Within 3 weeks, she is almost completely healed.

Today is . When your pet is lost, a collar with ID tags might be the first step toward a happy reunion. Microchips can be scanned by veterinarians or shelters, but an ID tag can be read by anyone! Both are critically important ways to ensure your pet gets home to you if it's lost. Of course, you also want to be sure all your contact information is up-to-date!

It's easy to forget that our pets don't have shoes on to protect their feet from the scalding sidewalks and streets. Leave walking for early morning or late evening for a more pleasant walk.
