Woodland Veterinary Hospital

Woodland Veterinary Hospital We look forward to welcoming you our office very soon! Woodland Veterinary Hospital was founded in 1975 in a converted house on the outskirts of town.
(69)

For more than 40 years, our caring and compassionate staff has been providing outstanding care in our full service veterinary clinic, serving dogs, cats, pocket pets and the occasional reptile. The new hospital was built in 2000, just to the north of that first location, and included a large medical facility and boarding kennel. To meet the demand for boarding, and to provide indoor and outdoor sp

aces for dog training classes, the building was expanded in 2005. Measuring 11,000 square feet, the hospital is designed to offer one-stop convenience for pet care. Woodland Veterinary Hospital was owned and managed by Dr. Bruce Dennie from 1996 until 2012, when Drs. Ellie Johnson and Keith Rode joined him as an ownership team. Dr. Dennie retired in 2019, and Dr. Rode and Dr. Johnson took over full ownership of the practice. Our hospital staff includes seven highly skilled veterinarians and a support staff of approximately 60 caring, compassionate veterinary professionals. We are very proud of our facility, our staff, our focus on patient care, our full complement of services, and the role we play in our community. Woodland Veterinary Hospital is a full service veterinary hospital that provides a wide range of comprehensive medical, dental, diagnostic and surgical services. Our patients include everything from dogs and cats to pocket pets, and even the occasional reptile. In addition to our veterinary medical services, we also offer top-notch boarding in our Pet Hotel. In 2008, WVH was awarded the Meritorious Service Award by the California Veterinary Medical Association in recognition of our efforts to promote the human-animal bond through our unique educational services. We have a passion for facilitating not only pet health but also healthy relationships between people and pets. We understand that your animal companion is more than just a pet – they’re a part of the family, and we strive to further nurture that bond in any way we can. Our goal is to become your trusted partner in all of your pet’s health care needs and we look forward to welcoming you to our office soon!

Last year alone, 163 fatal instances were reported of pets who were left in a hot car. Over 800 animals were saved from heat related deaths but suffered illnesses.

If you are unsure whether your pet can accompany to where you are going; call in advance, or opt to leave them home. 10 minutes of being left in a car on a warm day is enough to make your pet extremely sick and can cause death.

No trip is worth the loss of your beloved companion! Don't leave your pets unattended in vehicles, and as the weather warms, be on the look out for symptoms of heatstroke. ☀️

Important information!
The Canine Influenza vaccine is back in stock, and the nationwide shortage is considered over at this time. Influenza can cause dogs to have respiratory symptoms like: coughing, discharge, fever, lethargy. Symptoms can last 10-21 days and the virus can be contracted in places where they may come into contact with unvaccinated pets. For this reason, we are requiring dogs coming in to stay with us at our Pet Hotel to be up to date on their Canine Influenza vaccine starting, May 1st 2024. With any questions, reach out to 530-666-2461 by text or call.

Spring time is always welcome after such a long winter. However with Spring changes/cleaning, hazardous ingestions in pets can often increase. March is dedicated to the education of pet owning families about what can be poisonous and how best to handle the emergency if it were to arise.

Librela and Solensia is a great gift idea if your pet's mobility isn't what it used to be. Painful movement and discomfort doesn't have to come with age. Talk to your pet's Veterinary team about whether Librela and Solensia could be right for your Valentine🩷

Greetings from Woodland Veterinary Hospital,

We wanted to give you, our valued clients, a little insight into our use of antibiotics in animals.

Antibiotic resistance, or the ability of bacteria to withstand the effects of antibiotic treatment, is a growing problem for our pets, and it is also a major human health concern. Widespread use of antibiotics in human and animal health is a major cause of the problem of antibiotic resistance. Veterinarians play an important role in the fight to preserve the effectiveness of antibiotics for animals as well as for humans. Just as antibiotics are not appropriate for all infections in people (including the common cold, influenza, and most cases of bronchitis and sinusitis), antibiotics are not always the answer when our pets get sick. In addition, it is important to keep in mind that the antibiotics themselves are not without potential harm, so they should only be used when needed. Antibiotics can lead to drug reactions, vomiting, diarrhea, or the development of new infections that are difficult to treat.

Due to the ever-increasing risk of antibiotic resistance and the impact this has on both human and veterinary patients, we will be proactively following a program of “antibiotic stewardship.” This means we will prescribe antibiotics only when they are truly needed so that we can preserve their power while effectively treating infections. Our doctors would be happy to discuss their recommendations for your pet with you. Please feel free to ask us if you have questions!

Sincerely,
Your Woodland Veterinary Hospital-Medical Team

We are so excited about the wonderful feedback we have been receiving from our patients on Librela and Solensia!

If your pet is having discomfort or mobility issues talk to your Client Care team, or ask the doctor at your pet's next exam. We can arrange your filling out the Osteoarthritis pain quiz. Happy Fourth of July WVH friends and family! 🎇
We hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday today. We know for most pet owners this holiday can be love/hate, due to the stress it puts on our fur babies. We wanted to offer the top tips for getting your kiddo through the day.
-
If you have mostly outdoor pets please consider bringing them inside. If that is not possible make sure your pet has a collar & tags on and that your microchip info is up to date! Unfortunately the loud noises can scare pets, even those who are usually more comfortable staying home. We want to see your pets, but not because they lost their way home!
-
If you happen to find a lost pet try contacting the Yolo County Animal Shelter. We can try to help locate a pet with microchip information @ WVH but unfortunately without tags or a microchip, YCAS is the next step.

Feedback we hear often from cat owners is the hardest part about bringing their cat in, tends to be transporting them from their house to the office. We want to help owners eliminate that struggle and the best place to start is finding the right carrier!

WVH has been making a lot of changes for our feline friends we are ecstatic to share...
Stay tuned for more information on those updates and info on getting your cats in to see a vet. We want to see your cats regularly just like dogs. Preventative care for a healthy cat ensures a happy life!
