No matter how hard I try I always seem to leave someone out when posting pics of my most recent boarders. I'm hoping that doesn't happen this time around, but I can't make any promises. I have quite a few dogs to share pics of today, starting with Sundance. As you can see by one of the pics Sundance was here over the Memorial Day weekend. I picked Sundance up for this stay, so I took the opportunity to take a pic of her riding shotgun next to me on our ride home. Mom and son combo, Zoe and Louie were back while their owners took a trip across the pond to Ireland. They too were here over the Memorial weekend. Trixie was back, but without her partner in crime, Ginger. Ginger passed away shortly before they were scheduled to come here. It wasn't the same not having Ginger here with Trixie. Trixie was sad (as was I) and a bit withdrawn while here, but during her stay I had a cute Maltipoo from Texas come here for the day. Ollie Boy, was a sweet boy who really helped in cheering up Trixie. It was fun to watch. I had two "Scout's" here, Scout K., and Scout H. Both Golden Retrievers. I had another Golden Retriever, Reilly, here at the same time. All of them are very similar and quite ball crazy. Rado was back, having been here over the Memorial weekend last year. Rado's owner's live in Minneapolis but travel up to Lutsen every year for vacation. Jake and Arlo came for a long weekend stay while their owners, a mom and daughter went and visited wine country in California. Kaiser was back while his owners also visited Ireland (I had three different customers in Ireland at the same time). I think Ireland is the easy winner as the most popular overseas destination with my customers over this past year. Ollie & Coco were back for a weekend stay and were as cute and funny as always. Loki and Miley were here for a weekend also, as was Lola. Loki and Miley watched over little Lola and Lola made sure they both behaved. Nova, a first-time boarder, spent the weekend with us too. Finally, I had my first K9 Police Dog here for a couple nights. Storm, a Belgian Shepherd Dog (Malinois) works for the Fond du Lac Police Department and her handler is Officer Joe DeFoe. Storm is trained in Narcotics Detection and Tracking. Having been a police officer/investigator with the Fond du Lac Police Department it was a real honor to be entrusted with her care.
Needless to say, Storm was a very easy keeper.
Thank you both for your service.
Sweet Ginger, RIP.

I've had to put off posting pics over the past few weeks as I had a dog who was being boarded for a month, and he kept showing up in a lot of the pics I was taking and as I have mentioned before my practice is not to post pics of the boarding dogs until they have returned home. But Rocky went home this week so I thought I should attempt to get caught up with some kennel pics. Rocky's a very good-looking English Setter with a beautiful flowing black and white coat. A lot of the customers who came through here during Rocky's stay commented on what a nice dog he was. And they were not wrong. The month with Rocky went by fast. After he left, I missed having him here. Rocky had his share of playmates while he was here. Some for only an overnight and others that were here much longer. Some of the other dogs that he got to meet while here included, Sprig, Jake, Reilly, Chloe, Dash, Inga & Keta, Archie, Bella, Roo, Bear, Honey, Ollie & Charlie, Gus & Casper, and finally Pepper, Nala, and Lager. Roo, a Labrador Retriever mix, and Honey a Boykin Spaniel were new customers that were here for the first time, while everyone else were repeat customers. Gus & Casper and Dash were here for just one night, so unfortunately I don't have pics of them this go around...next time. So, at least for now, that brings you up to date. Happy Memorial Day from all of us here at Hafftime Farm Dog Boarding Kennel. 🇺🇸

Posting some pics of some of our weekend "visitors". There are still a few here from the weekend, but I don't like to post pics of the dogs until they have gone home. The sun broke through on Friday and Sunday with rain only occuring on Saturday so we were able to get out and throw the ball around a little bit. That was a nice change for both the dogs and me. Everyone you see here are all returning customers. They all are happy easy going dogs. Their ages were on a wide spectrum, with Lily on the high end at 14+ years and Coco on the low end at just barely over six months old.
Their energy levels seemed comparable, it's just that Lily's didn't last quite as long. Hugo, Kaiser, and Daisy loved getting out to play fetch and run through the water. Overall, I think everyone had a good stay.

I haven't posted since the first week of April and now we are left with only a couple of days left in the month. We've been busy here not only with the boarding dogs, but also getting some kennel work done with hopes of improving the boarders stay. And, of course like everyone else we have to battle the weather conditions from time to time. I love that we are getting the rain that is much needed (that's the horse owner in me talking), but it can make it difficult to get the boarders out for much more than their scheduled walks. Right now playtime is limited in the exercise area in an attempt to preserve the sprouting grass coming up. Unfortunately, I missed getting some photos of a few boarders during their stay, mostly because of the weather, so I'll just give a shout out to Zoe & Louie, and Zeus & Meeko. It has been a fun month as far as hearing about everyone's travels. I had customers all over the globe this month. It started with a coupe of customers traveling to see the total eclipse in Indiana and Arkansas. Some of the other customers were traveling for vacation and or to visit family. Some of the locations included, North Carolina, Washington, California, Florida, Puerto Rico, Italy, to name a few. Then there were a few daycare boarders that were here to learn the ropes before a longer stay in the future. You will recognize a majority of the boarders with a few new boarders sprinkled in. New boarders included Norman, a black lab, Buckley a black and white Great Pyrenees, and Arlo, a chocolate lab mix. I should mention Jake, too. Jake, a Jack Russell Terrier had been here once previously but I never got a photo of him. Other pics included in this post are pictures of the inside of the kennel, as I get inquiries from time to time as to what the kennel looks like. I also included a couple pics of the new cement pad we had put in for one of the outside kennels.

Not sure where to start. I have had so many visitors through March and now into April. It seems customers/parents are making the most of spring break and traveling with their families to all different destinations. Florida, however, seems to be the most popular destination site. I've had a couple boarders that were here for almost a full three weeks, others that were here for just an overnight stay, and everything in-between. Cricket and Echo, two chocolate labs fall into the extended stay category. They were here last year too. Cricket comes here with her Green Bay Packers blanket...it's tough be a Vikings fan. Maple, a tri-colored mini-Aussie was back too. The snowstorm made things interesting for her, as the snow depth was well over her head. There was a few times I had to just pick her up and carry her. Thinking about it now, I think she got a little too used to that. Daisy, a very pretty German Shorthair Pointer was a first-time customer. She too was here over the snowstorm but didn't seem to mind the snow at all. Even with her very short coat being outdoors didn't bother her in the least. Sprig, a very big yellow lab was back. He had been here last fall for the first time. Sprig has a bit of anxiety, but we worked our way through it and his stay went well. He just loves running down the trails and getting out and playing with the other boarders. Zeus and Meeko were here over the Easter weekend. I think it can go without saying that snow is their friend. When they were here back in February there wasn't a single snowflake on the ground, I think they had more fun this time running around in the newly fallen snow. Ike, a yellow lab, was another first-time customer. Ike recently moved here with his owner from Oregon. He was very well behaved in the kennel and got along so well with the other dogs. I think he would have played outside all day if I had let him. He was never lacking in energy. Coco was here again, but this time for a longer stay. Coco is a very lady like and delicate looking poodle, but when she is out with the boys...look out. She gets right in there and chases and challenges the boys. She makes me proud.
Maci and Izzy were here for one of their daycare sessions. The weather the day they were here was beautiful, so we went out for several walks. I think they were purposely walking slow so they could stay out longer. A strategy that worked. Kona, a Goldendoodle was another first timer who was here for two nights. Kona was very sweet and loved posing for pics. I had a couple boarders that were only here for a one-night stay, and for one reason or another I didn't get a photo of them, so I'll have to just give them a shout out. Torvi, a German Shepherd was here for her first daycare stay, and Chloe a Springer Spaniel who has been here many times before.

These are the last of the boarding dogs that were able to enjoy winter during their stay before spring arrived. Once again, there are old faces mixed in with a few new faces. Storm, a big brindle colored Great Dane, Mastiff mix, falls in both categories. She had been here just once before for a daycare session to prepare for this longer boarding stay. Storm was so playful, she just loved spending time with the other dogs. She seemed to understand her size as she spent the better part of her time on her back while playing with the other dogs. Storm's favorite play partner was Britta, who was a first timer here. Britta, a white and liver colored Münsterländer was quite a bit older than Storm, but she didn't seem to have too much trouble keeping up with her. Other new faces included Coco and Ollie. Their stay here was their very first experience being boarded, and they were incredibly well behaved. Ollie and Coco are brother and sister from different litters, and they couldn't have been more alike. Coco may have been my youngest boarder to date at just 5 months old. It was so fun watching them chase each other around. Ginger and Trixie were back again. They are both so sweet and mellow. Ginger enjoys the other dogs’ company a bit more than Trixie who is a bit of a loner. Even with their small stature they are not intimidated in the least by the bigger dogs. Sam and Scout were here last fall and were back again for a week while their owner's went on vacation. I see these two beautiful shepherds every day when they are out for their daily walk, as they belong to my neighbor. While here, I think they are comfortable with all the familiar sights and sounds and smells. No adjustment period is really needed.

It was so nice last week having the beautiful summer like weather. The boarding dogs were able to be outside running around for a lot longer than usual. All of them seemed to enjoy soaking up the sun. Inga & Keta were back for another daycare session to help Inga build confidence and get familiar with boarding life.
We're making good progress. I think her comfort level increased from her previous visit. Maci & Izzy were also back after a daycare session the week before, but this time it was for 5 days while their owners enjoyed a cruise to Haiti. Izzy enjoyed running around and playing with the other dogs while Maci refereed the activity. She didn't have a whistle or a black and white striped shirt, but she did have a commanding bark. Unfortunately, I don't think the other dogs were taking her too seriously. Hazel, Gertie, and Willow had been here in January for a weekend. This time they were here just shy of two weeks while their owners enjoyed a Florida vacation. Hazel & Gertie probably appreciated the sun more than the other dogs, as they are not built for cold temperatures with their shorthair coats. Willow a Chesapeake Bay Retriever is better suited for the colder temps, but I think experiences "sympathy chills" for her roommates.
Sammy, a pretty boy mixed breed was here for a long weekend while his owners went on a skiing vacation to Colorado. Sammy had a fun stay, but it was not nearly as eventful as his owners trip, which started with the airline temporarily losing their luggage and ending with them having to rent a vehicle to get back home due to an airline "glitch". Tala was back while her owners travelled to Mexico. Tala is such an easy subject when it comes to taking pics. Like her owner says, "Tala is such a poser." Butte and Mesa were back again while their owner was on a work trip. These two are like peas in a pod. They are both eager to get outside and always just as eager to come back in. But whether they are inside or outside I think they think it is their job to keep order. They're like little patrol monitors, keeping things in order. Finally, Ripley stopped in while her owners were in the Twin Cities for a couple days. Ripley is just a super happy and playful Golden Retriever. Ripley never has a bad day. I could learn from her.

Ember and Miura were here just shy of two weeks, and just went home on Sunday. They are both in the early stages of being trained to be service dogs to children & United States military veterans struggling with disabilities. I will add the link at the end of my post.
They both had very different personalities but share other traits that will be needed to be a successful service dog. Their trainer has them well on their way. Whoever ends up with them will be very lucky. I've been anxiously waiting to post some pics of their stay here. I think there may have been a few inadvertent cameos in some other pics I have posted of other boarders, as a lot of their time here was spent in “group activities” with other boarding dogs. I am also posting some pics of some daycare boarders I have had here this week already. Monday was Callie and Storm. Callie, a rescue dog, is a Catahoula Mix with a brindle coat and intense blue eyes. She appears as though she is looking right through you. She was here mostly for the experience with hopes that she would be able to board here in the future without traumatizing her. She has had a rough start to life and her owners are diligently working with her to gain her trust. From what they described she has come a long way already. She clearly had some fears when she first got here, but I could see that as the day progressed, she became more comfortable with her surroundings.
Storm, a brindle-colored Great Dane/Mastiff mix was here to also experience boarding before she comes back for a longer stay when her owners go on vacation. Storm was very chill and easy going. She was quiet as a church mouse in the kennel, I never heard a peep out of her.
Tuesday, I had Izzy and Maci here for daycare. They too were here to experience boarding kennel life before they come back for a longer stay when their owners go on vacation. Neither of them had ever been boarded before, but you would have never known it. They took to it right away and seemed to accept that this was going to be “home” for a while if only for a day.
Finally, there was Inga and Keta who came here for daycare on Tuesday. Keta, an older German Shepherd was about as calm as they come. she was very noble looking. Inga, a Bernese Mountain dog has a sad backstory. She was rescued from a puppy mill operation where she was bred repeatedly while living in less than humane conditions. So, as you can imagine she is the definition of “damaged goods”, but her story took a turn for the better (much better) when she was adopted by her now owners. They have worked tirelessly to try and give her the best dog life while also working on getting her out of her shell. Despite Inga’s traumatic start to life, she is the sweetest girl. She isn’t 100% trusting yet, but I have confidence she will get there. Inga’s first stay here was mostly an experiment with her only spending 5 hrs. here. Next time we’ll go a little longer... baby steps. Keta just comes along for the ride.

I had a few extended stay boarders go home this week, so I finally get to post some pics of their stay. Also included, are a couple of weekend and overnight boarders, one of which was a new customer. I'll start with her because there is a story that goes with her. My first "official" boarding customer (meaning not a friend's dog) was Remmi. You might remember that I shared that Remmi sadly had to be put down last July at the young age of 3 due to a painful degenerative disc that caused her to lose the use of her hind legs. I got a call from Remmi's owners a few weeks back telling me they had adopted a rescue dog and were needing an overnight stay for her. So, I would like to introduce you to Coco, a quiet but playful Standard Poodle. She is very much a lady, but has no problem keeping up with the boys, which was a good thing because she was surrounded by them. The boys included Hudson, Archie, Norman, and Kaiser. All of which have been here multiple times. The only pictures I have of Kaiser are him hugging or "dancing" with Hudson. I think Kaiser wanted to wear him like a fur coat. There were also a couple of other girls here, Kiska a yellow lab, along with two other girls that are still here (who are also first-time customers.)
