Good morning everyone! We hope you're all staying warm today! We would like to take a few minutes to let you all know of a few changes coming to the Clinic here shortly! With Dr. Robyn getting ready for maternity leave our appointments and hours will be looking different starting next week, January 22nd through February 29th. Our new tentative hours will be listed below! During this time we will not be doing surgeries or euthanasia's.

Tuesdays 8am - Noon
Wednesdays 8am - Noon
Thursday 8am - 2:30pm

Good morning!! We just wanted to take a minute and thank everyone who came out last Saturday for the rabies clinic to benefit Kail's Mission! We had an amazing turnout and truly can't thank the community enough for the support! We also would like to thank Gary and Charlotte Parks, and their team for giving us a few extra set of hands to help!!

We will be holding this rabies clinic on March 25th from 1pm-3pm.
Anyone is welcome, we just ask that all dogs be on a leash, and all cats are in carriers. The money that we raise from this clinic will be donated to Kali's Mission.

February is National Pet Dental Health Month!! For the month of February Wysox Animal Clinic will be doing a special of 10% off any dental treatment! Below we have attached a little article on some of the reasons that dentals are great for your pet!!

As a pet parent, you certainly want your dog to have a healthy mouth. Below are five reasons why good dental care for dogs is so critical to your dog’s overall health:

Preventing tooth loss. When the structures supporting a dog’s teeth become damaged or infected, the teeth loosen and fall out. Good dog dental care will ensure that those teeth-supporting structures stay healthy and keep the teeth in place.

Preventing bad breath (halitosis). If a whiff of your dog's breath makes your nose hairs curl, it's time for some good dental care. When your dog has a healthy mouth and healthy dog teeth, bad breath won't be a problem.

Preventing oral pain. Dental disease, especially when it's severe, can be quite painful for dogs. Keeping your dog's teeth and gums healthy will help prevent oral pain.

Preventing organ damage. Bacteria in the plaque can enter the bloodstream and spread to the heart, kidneys and liver. This spread of bacteria, called bacteremia, can damage organs and make dogs quite sick. Good oral health will help prevent bacteremia and subsequent organ damage.

Preventing worsening dental disease. Because so many dogs have dental disease by the time they're 3 years old, it can be difficult to prevent it from developing in the first place. However, good dog dental care can prevent dental disease from becoming severe and causing problems throughout the body.

January is Train Your Dog Month along with Walk Your Pet Month; Below are some tools to avoid when training your dog to walk nicely on a leash!

- Retractable/extendable leashes

Retractable or extendable leashes are not recommended for training because your dog never has a consistent amount of length, which makes it harder for them to learn how close to stay to you. There are other issues with these leashes, such as injuries to humans and dogs (abrasions, burns, deep wounds, finger amputations, etc.) along with the leash itself breaking.

- Neck collars

When attached to a leash, collars can put a lot of pressure on the neck, possibly harming the trachea, spine, thyroid, etc. Avoid putting pressure on the neck to reduce the possibility for injury or harm to these structures.

- Back attaching harnesses

When pressure is applied, dogs push back into that pressure and are more likely to pull forward. If the dog pulls and gets to move forward, then the behavior has been reinforced and will be repeated. These harnesses are not recommended if you are new to training and practicing loose leash walking.
