Keeping a positive mindset is so important to me because, even in paradise, we have our share of rainy days. How do I keep my spirits high when the sun hides behind the clouds? I focus on the beauty of the rain, the lush green it brings, the promise of a rainbow. 🌈

Here are my top tips for maintaining a positive mindset, even on the cloudiest of days:

1️⃣ Practice gratitude: I remind myself of all the wonderful things I have in my life. The beautiful island I call home, the warm people I've met, the adventures I've been on.

2️⃣ Stay active: Whether it's a yoga session on the beach or a hike in the rainforest, staying active boosts my mood and helps me stay positive.

3️⃣ Connect with nature: Even on a rainy day, the island is full of life. I take time to appreciate the beauty around me.

4️⃣ Treat myself: A cozy evening with a good book or a pampering spa session always lifts my spirits.

5️⃣ Connect with loved ones: A chat with a friend or a loved one always brings a smile to my face.

Remember, every cloud has a silver lining, and after the rain comes the rainbow. 🌦️🌈

The Cruzan Cowgirls Horse Rescue has a special place in my heart! They are the only horse rescue and sanctuary for homeless horses here on St. Croix,

I’m honored that I can work alongside the amazing people at Cruzan Cowgirls to provide care to these beautiful animals.

There’s one horse’s story in particular that means a lot to me: Dragon.

Today I want to take a moment to share a deeply personal journey – my own path to self-discovery, self-love, and building unshakeable confidence. 💙

I wouldn’t be able to share my life on social media without having gone through this journey. With the pressures to conform that society places on us, it can get harder each year to stay true to yourself. I’ve certainly felt the pressures of social media to look a certain way and I’ve fallen into the comparison trap that so many of us deal with online.

Here are some of my favorite mantras that have helped me on my journey of self confidence and authenticity. At first it was “fake it until you make it,” but I’m proud to say that today, these words are a deep part of who I am:

-I choose to stop apologizing for being me.
-I deserve all that is good.
-I love my body and all it does for me.
-I choose to be grateful for all that I have.
-I am creating a beautiful life.
-I am worthy of love and attention.

Now go out there and be authentically YOU! 💫

Nature invites us to be where we are. 🌿

When I’m in nature, I feel a profound sense of calm wash over me.

I feel I’m able to finally let go of my to do list and just *be.*

Be present.

Be mindful.

Be grateful.

Be humbled.

If I don’t have these moments of stillness, it shows up in my daily routine. I find myself feeling more stressed, overwhelmed and forgetful. I’m less able to stay clear on my priorities and more likely to let the little things get to me.

I’ve learned to always make time to be in nature. It’s a non-negotiable for me.

Sometimes I think horses know something we don’t.

They know when to be still and when to adopt an easy pace.

They know when to run wild and free.

They can connect without a word.

They are one with the planet.

They never hesitate to give.

They have great beauty and power yet they exude humility and grace.

When I spend time with a horse, like Dragon, I always come away a better person than I was before. I’m so thankful for these majestic creatures and magical moments of connection like these.

Hi friends, I’m back!! 👋🏼 I have some new followers around here and as I’ve been on a bit of a social media hiatus, I thought I’d take a moment to reintroduce myself. ⤵️⁠
⁠
🏝️I’ve been living and loving island life since 2005 when I took a big leap of faith and moved from the Northeastern United States to St. Croix.⁠
⁠
😵‍💫Just a few of the culture shocks when I moved here: we don’t always have electricity; we rely on rain gutters to catch water in our cisterns; the largest and only ‘store” for shopping on the island is an outdated Kmart. ⁠
⁠
🐶 I am a veterinarian and run a veterinary practice here on the island. While I do occasionally see exotic animals, most of my patients are dogs and cats like anywhere else. Did I mention I LOVE what I do? ⁠
⁠
🇰🇪 I speak fluent Kiswahili. Kiswahili is the national language of Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda -- three East African countries. Prior to attending veterinary school, I earned a Masters Degree in Cultural Anthropology and a Certificate in African Studies from Columbia University in NYC. I spent a wonderful year in Kenya where I was able to speak fluently with the locals. ⁠
⁠
💃I love to dance! I’ve studied ballet, tap, jazz, pointe, modern, and Afro-Caribbean over the years and currently teach a ballet barre class here on the island.⁠
⁠
Living on an island is like living off the beaten path…across the board! And it takes a sense of adventure, an open mind, and a great appreciation for mother nature in all her glory and fury, to make a go of it in the long term.⁠
⁠
Despite not having all the little luxuries that “state-siders” take for granted, the opportunity to carve out a personal and professional life, on a ruggedly beautiful rock in the middle of the Caribbean Sea is my dream come true and I’m living it in real time every single day!⁠
